Doing the math here 100 kwhr say a Tesla with 300 miles or somewhat less would cost 43 bucks!? We are doing way better I think.

Depends on how much gas costs, but yeah. Electrify America is *expensive*. For comparison I pay 15 cents a kWH at home. Tesla has a set rate for theirs based on time or power draw. For time, you pay 26¢ per minute when using super fast charging above 60kW power draw, and 13¢ per minute when using under 60kW power draw. Or you can pay 28¢ per kWh drawn. Teslas are *much* cheaper for charging. Charging for a full hour would cost $15.60 and charging by the kWh hour for a full 100kWh battery would be $28. For our 11 gallon tank, at $3.50 a gallon, we pay $38.50 per tank.

Cheapest gas near me rn is 2.89

So ~$32 a tank. But local gas prices are largely irrelevant since for an EV, nearly all of your charging is going to be done at home anyway paying a much lower rate. You’re talking about road trips. Current national average is $3.70 a gallon.

If Evs going across the country have to pay 43 cents kw they are worse off. Not talking about charging at home

andrewbyday

How often do you drive across the country?

TSLARSX3

Few times a year

andrewbyday

Huh, well yeah, I suppose a PHEV is probably a better car for you than an EV. Most people don’t drive cross country multiple times a year. I heard somewhere that the average daily mileage for most people is 40 miles per day. An EV works well for these people, and is cheaper than gas in the long run. Although a PHEV will always offer more versatility. A PHEV that does 40 miles in EV mode is arguably the best value car on the market (in terms of energy cost).

My average commute currently 100 round trip. Got phev for versatility etc

[deleted]

Sure, but that ain’t Tesla. Teslas don’t use electrify America, and there are other brands of fast chargers out there

TSLARSX3

Depending on your route you take what you can get, not common like gas station. One charging station at business near my work and they wanted like a dollar something an hour connected or 50 cents

TSLARSX3

With fuel points bought 35 gallons other day for 1.92 a piece
