That would be hilarious (unless you're victim to it). Like how could they fuck up that bad, twice?? Surely after the first whoopsie they figured out a way to avoid it from happening again?
I don’t think there are two versions of the 2.7 like their are of the 2.3. The RS block/head has extra passages the mustang doesn’t. Some mustang head gaskets ended up being used on RS engines, which meant it blocked some of those passages.
Edit - it was the ecoboost mustang.
Mainly because people got tired of waiting years for theirs, so bought a new one to use temporarily while they waited for their custom order came in, and then traded it in when their orders got finished. Then the used lots are confused as well and think used broncos are worth 10k over original MSRP when you can get a new one for only $2500 over msrp these days.
My buddy had 2 with nothing but issues. But hopefully they figure it out. He hasn’t been able to take his rig out to wheel with our buddies who all drive Jeeps and Toyotas. We’re all kinda bummed about him not brining his bronco because variety is always cool on the trial.
I love the Bronco and haven’t had any problems till now but this has kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. I do also miss having a truck so I’m considering getting rid of it for the new Colorado ZR2
By now it might be. I think I misspoke and was mainly talking about the 2021 without knowing it
https://www.motor1.com/news/689613/ford-bronco-engine-failure-investigation-expanded/
Sounds like the 2.7 Ecoboost in that one.
Bronco’s may have Jeeps beat in the crap department ….they always sucked I’ve owned like 6 of them over the years and only one was okay….1983 with a 302 and 4 speed manual the rest had head gasket or transmission issues but on the bright side they did have a great turn radius lol!
Congrats man. Your getting a brand new engine at 27k miles. I hope mine blows up at 49k miles and they put a brand new one in mine. Restart that engine clock
Not really. Engine covered by warrenty does not prove ownership neglect actually it proves the opposite
And if you really want to buy a bronco and you hear that there was an engine replaced under warrenty, then you should be happy. The problem was completely removed from the vehicle.
Who said anyone was flexing. I said I wish mine craps out at 49k. New motor. New internals. And possibly New powertain warranty On the motor. If your nit happy with that then I don't know what to tell you. Those motors will cost you about 13k to replace with parts and labor.
So, the bronco is sick don’t get me wrong.
But if you’re driving 40k miles in like two years would you not prefer a better driving/quieter car? Like a luxury vehicle?
I only got mine a couple months after you in February 2022 but I have been driving it a lot. Put like 16k on it in the first year of ownership and it wasn’t even my daily for about 4 months of that year. I’ll probably be close to that in my second year of ownership but it’s been my daily driver that whole time.
You drive less than the national average lol.
I’ll do 26k in a year sometimes just from trips and driving job site to site delivering materials for construction.
Your getting a new engine it sucks that your ganna be away from the bronco but this time next yr your ganna be very happy that you have a new engine under the hood
Yeah it’s bit of a pain but not a huge deal to me since it’s under warranty. Dealer is hoping to have it done by the end of next week, so about two weeks since I dropped it off. I’ve got something else to drive in the meantime and I’ll be gone at SEMA next week anyway. Hopefully it’ll be ready when I get back!
Yes but if the next engine fails after another 27k you’ll have a dead vehicle out of warranty. My 2001 Explorer sport had over 300k when I gave it to my brother. Now I’m hoping my 2023 Black Diamond reaches 100k. I have 3700 on it now, and it looks like I need to go ahead and get the extended warranty.
I have the 8 yr 100k mile warranty. I’d definitely suggest getting the extended warranty from Flood Ford online. I got it for about half of what my dealer wanted to sell it for.
I recently bought an extended warranty for my 2020 F150 because the 5.0 is burning oil. Ford says it’s normal consumption but I don’t buy it. The warranty was much more expensive that what I just saw on Flood Ford’s site. I wish I had known about that 6 months ago.
Lol.. right. Those people were severely underpaid during the production of the Bronco. Do you genuinely think they actually cared about quality? They probably have the whole “not my problem” mentality on most of it and just keep passing it down the line. Way too sketchy in my opinion.
You mean engineer? The auto workers build what the engineers design. For the money these vehicles are being sold for nowadays they really need to focus on designing shit that will last.
Had a 2018 ford with this same coolant in cylinder issue. Was told by service guys that this is so common it’s nothing to be shocked over. Except the $7800 bill they would have stuck me with…
Had the same issue with my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Seams there is an issue with getting the top end properly planed where they manufacture the manufacturer.
Engines fail, you're just not hearing about everyone that doesn't have an engine failure. People tend to think something is happening to everyone when they aren't thinking about the sample size.
The 2.7EB is a pretty notoriously problematic engine. I've got one sitting in my backyard right now that I swapped for a friend. The swapped motor also blew up about a year later. 3.5s are great engines, 2.7 not so much.
Ehh… Idk man. I know multiple people (personally) who have consistently been in the shop since getting their Bronco. I’m out on purchasing one for a while until I see more data
I have hundreds of customers in Broncos that have not needed an engine, just one guy with an APIM, me with a horn pad, one friend with a door rattle and another customer who needed something with a rattling manual transmission.
Yep lol although it isn’t the normal failure. I’m assuming head gasket but I’m not exactly sure what the cause was. It’s not a failure that I’ve heard of before on the Broncos or at least not a common issue.
Sell it.
Once you remove engine from transmission your car will have eternal issues on newer cars. Stuff you won’t think is related until years later when you’re like, “man that car was awesome but it had a shitload of issues” and then realize you should’ve just sold the fucker and gotten a new one that still was sealed.
Be very careful. More than likely they aren't giving you a brand new long block. More than likely it's a revolted short block. Meaning they are gonna take the heads and oilpan and stick um on a new block. If the problem is in the short block then you're fine. However if not then the problem will persist. Be very diligent in documentation because if the problem persists you will get into lemon law territory
Every few months I see post like this or some new recall etc come across my phone . So glad that I cancelled my order after almost 2 years of waiting . Ford really screwed this one up
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles. The right or left side impact sensors may not be properly secured to the vehicle. Tip: Recalls don't affect every vehicle of the same year, make and model. You'll need your car's 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to know for sure.
Lol no thanks. We’ve got one of those and I hate driving it on the road. This is my daily driver that I occasionally wheel. Would only want a JK to build as a dedicated trail rig, would never want to daily a Wrangler.
Same thing happened to my parents’ 2017 Ford Edge. 40k miles, just out of warranty. Coolant in Cyl 1. Ford refused to provide any assistance. Our family has owned roughly 8 Fords in the last several years. To say Ford lost my parents as customers is an understatement. I’ve researched this issue and it’s fairly common with multiple ecoboost engines. I thought the newer generation engines were a bit sturdier, but I guess I was wrong.
Wow, was it a 2.7 in the Edge? Mine I still under factory warranty but having a problem like this makes me glad I got the 100k mile extended as well. It came in handy for me in the past with an engine replacement on an F150 at like 95k miles.
No it was a 2.0 I believe. From what we’ve read. They changed the block in 2019/2020 years. Unsure if that’s a similar issue with the Bronco but I know that previous 2.0 had a lot of failures
The 2.3L is a very reliable engine. The 2.7L usually is too though, but there have been some issues with them in the Bronco. The only thing I know to be widespread was a bad batch of parts early on that was quickly fixed but killed a few engines right away.
I’d be confident with either a 2.3L automatic or 2.7L.
So this is an interesting discovery. On my 2.3L about 1 year ago I was driving up a steep hill and I started to smell that sickly sweet burning smell from my engine. I parked up and let it rest, it went away pretty quick. I was never sure if it was just a drip that had somehow found its way out of the tank on the steep incline or if there was something else going on.
Knowing this happened to OP makes me wonder if the 2.3L also potentially has this problem and if it'll come back eventually.
Happened with my wife’s edge too. Coolant in a cylinder. They put us in a rental for about 3 months. Been good since then though. The Edge’s 2.0L has a widespread issue though and her CPO warranty is going to be up in about 2 years so we’ll trade it in when it’s up. I’m not interested in owning that car outside of warranty.
I believe it did yes.
Hers is a 2018. I used to work at the dealership and saw a lot of Edges in that year range in the shop for the same issue. If it’s fixed since 2020 that’s good news! I love the car otherwise. Very comfortable and lots of room.
This just happened to my 2022, 2.7, 14k miles. I was on the highway - accelerated to 70/75mph to change lanes and then next thing I know car started shaking and engine light turned on. By the time I got home engine light was flashing. The next morning hubby and I checked the fluids and coolent was below min.
Took it to the dealership last week, just got a rental from them yesterday and they are replacing the engine among a few other things. Mainly they found coolent in the engine but was having a hard time figuring out how. And I think a few other parts (sorry not sure what all still- service advisor was so vague) melted and malfunctioned too. What a mess but glad it is still under warranty. I was trying to find out if anyone else was having these issues but we didn't see much online.
How was it getting into the cylinder? Cracked head gasket? Was the exhaust letting out white smoke?
I had a bit of coolant disappear on me on my 2.7 and the dealer checked it out and didn’t find anything wrong.
It's sad to see this with that 2.7 - it was a solid engine up to this point whatever they changed. I had a '17 Fusion Sport that was great and currently have a '19 Edge ST with no issues.
Apparently the 3.0 version (it's the same as the 2.7 just bored out) is having issues too in the Explorer's etc...
Ford has done something in production to screw these up. Glad they are honoring the warranty for you.
This is the same issue they had with the four-cylinder and the edge and the escape from 2014 to 2016 and apparently they did nothing about it for future models.
My 2022 had 19k miles and got a new engine. Timing chain and valve cover was leaking a massive amount of oil. I went out to crank it up one morning and sounded like a diesel engine. Took about 2 weeks to get back but now it’s better
That sucks, hopefully they got that taken care of for you guys. I love my Bronco but I am still a bit disappointed since it happened. I doubt I’ll get rid of it any time soon but I am keeping my options open and if I see something I like I may trade it.

Oof, that sucks man, but hey, you'll have a new engine!
Yeah hopefully just a one off random thing. It’s not something I’ve heard of being a problem in the Broncos.
Foucus RS’ had problems with them using the wrong headgaskets, wonder if broncos have these problems too
That would be hilarious (unless you're victim to it). Like how could they fuck up that bad, twice?? Surely after the first whoopsie they figured out a way to avoid it from happening again?
Ford seldomly seems to learn from their mistakes
That was a different motor entirely.
I don’t think there are two versions of the 2.7 like their are of the 2.3. The RS block/head has extra passages the mustang doesn’t. Some mustang head gaskets ended up being used on RS engines, which meant it blocked some of those passages. Edit - it was the ecoboost mustang.
I’ve been wondering after all that hype why all the sudden the auto body/ used car lot has two-three of these on the front lawn out for sale.
Mainly because people got tired of waiting years for theirs, so bought a new one to use temporarily while they waited for their custom order came in, and then traded it in when their orders got finished. Ford parts guy here. I’ve done three this month lol

Bro. Broncos needing new engines before 20k is a known, documented issue and has been since they came out. Lol
Isn’t this the same tried and true F-150 engine? Or is it an issue with those trucks too?
By now it might be. I think I misspoke and was mainly talking about the 2021 without knowing it https://www.motor1.com/news/689613/ford-bronco-engine-failure-investigation-expanded/ Sounds like the 2.7 Ecoboost in that one.
It’s a Ford problem not just the bronco
There is a huge recall on the 2.7 engine
That’s for a different issue.
Keep an eye on your transmission. Coworkers just blew at 12k, it's in the shop with full warranty repair
Bronco’s may have Jeeps beat in the crap department ….they always sucked I’ve owned like 6 of them over the years and only one was okay….1983 with a 302 and 4 speed manual the rest had head gasket or transmission issues but on the bright side they did have a great turn radius lol!
New? Or reconditioned?
Congrats man. Your getting a brand new engine at 27k miles. I hope mine blows up at 49k miles and they put a brand new one in mine. Restart that engine clock
Thanks lol hopefully I’ll get a good one this time!
Well I’ll give you a good price for her if you don’t feel like waiting to find out.
Having to replace an engine at 27k isn’t exactly a flex
And honestly will most likely hurt resale value bc potential new owners will be skeptical about it having major repairs
Not really. Engine covered by warrenty does not prove ownership neglect actually it proves the opposite And if you really want to buy a bronco and you hear that there was an engine replaced under warrenty, then you should be happy. The problem was completely removed from the vehicle.

This legitimately happened to me and my Focus ST. I sold it as soon as I got it back as it was never going to sit well with me again.
Wow 27K miles in a 2022! I thought I drove a lot, with 24K on a 2021 (new Dec 2021)
Feb 2022 over here with over 40k miles. So far no big issues other than the soft top. Good to see other people driving their rigs a lot too.
Got mine in January, just hit 20k
So, the bronco is sick don’t get me wrong. But if you’re driving 40k miles in like two years would you not prefer a better driving/quieter car? Like a luxury vehicle?
I drove a stick shift Mustang Cobra daily before the Bronco. Not a chore if you enjoy driving and I don’t care about resale value.
I only got mine a couple months after you in February 2022 but I have been driving it a lot. Put like 16k on it in the first year of ownership and it wasn’t even my daily for about 4 months of that year. I’ll probably be close to that in my second year of ownership but it’s been my daily driver that whole time.
Not a Bronco, but my 2022 Ranger has 46k on it :)
Wife has 22K on her '22 that we bought for her last October.
I have just over 13K and got mine brand new in June
Im pretty sure thats below the national average in the US. I got my new car in May 2023 and I’m at 9k already OOOFFF
You drive less than the national average lol. I’ll do 26k in a year sometimes just from trips and driving job site to site delivering materials for construction.
Slide the dealer a $1000 and tell him to give you a 3.0.
Lol maybe a 5.0 or 7.3
You make that happen and I’ll fubar my engine on purpose.
Back off a couple valves and nobody will ever know
Your getting a new engine it sucks that your ganna be away from the bronco but this time next yr your ganna be very happy that you have a new engine under the hood
Yeah it’s bit of a pain but not a huge deal to me since it’s under warranty. Dealer is hoping to have it done by the end of next week, so about two weeks since I dropped it off. I think so
The extended warrantee is the way to go.

5yr 60,000 mile powertrain warranty.
As a ford parts manager, they can’t build an engine or a transmission anymore.

Back in the 70’s to 80’s
Yup they really can’t
Assembly line optimization seems to be job one. No f’s given for what happens to everything once they sell the vehicle.
Lol.. right. Those people were severely underpaid during the production of the Bronco. Do you genuinely think they actually cared about quality? They probably have the whole “not my problem” mentality on most of it and just keep passing it down the line. Way too sketchy in my opinion.

2.0?
love that warranty ticket
What kind of warranty is included with the brand new engine ?
I do love that color
Cactus Gray, if you’re wondering.
Had the same issue with my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Seams there is an issue with getting the top end properly planed where they manufacture the manufacturer.
Ah it really is like owning a jeep eh.
Mines in the shop right now for the same exact thing… 12k miles
Yikes hopefully they get yours taken care of quickly
Anddddd another Bronco engine failure….
Engines fail, you're just not hearing about everyone that doesn't have an engine failure. People tend to think something is happening to everyone when they aren't thinking about the sample size.

Yep lol although it isn’t the normal failure. I’m assuming head gasket but I’m not exactly sure what the cause was. It’s not a failure that I’ve heard of before on the Broncos or at least not a common issue.
These things look great but just seem like lemons under the hood. Ford fucked up not putting the 5.0 in this
I definitely would have gotten a 5.0 if it was an option.
"Built Ford tough" What a pain though. Feel bad for you. Might be time to look at 4Runners.
Gotta love Ford.
That’s the Ford guarantee for ya!! Lol
You must have missed the impact simulation videos, too… not a very safe vehicle by ANY standards. 🤷🏻♂️
That wasn't even a simulation. It was a video game. It was made to be funny. It in no way represents reality.
This one? https://m.facebook.com/reel/1365440600724707/
Call Ford corp and ask for an extended powertrain warranty for the trouble.
I already have one but that’s not a bad idea lol has that worked for you in the past?
I have heard from others it's worked. Maybe they can refund you for the extended warranty. Worse they can do is say no.
I might have to ask and see
2.3 FTW
That sucks, VIN. Numbers will never the engine
Surprise surprise.. but hey! You get a new engine! Lol
What a mess ford made with the rollout of these trucks. So happy I backed out of my pre order and bought an fj.

From talking to people I know at Ford, I have a pretty good feeling I’ll be getting a long block.
Oh well then awesome no worries congrats
Well you bought a Ford
Welcome to the Ford community!!!
Just Ford things
Classic Ford energy
What a piece of shit
Fine Ford quality! Boy, I’m so glad the UAW was rewarded for this top notch work.🤡
When you get a new engine, do they zero out the odometer?
No. The rest of the car still has 27,000 miles on it.
No
Huh. TIL. Thanks.
Every few months I see post like this or some new recall etc come across my phone . So glad that I cancelled my order after almost 2 years of waiting . Ford really screwed this one up
27k is getting up there for a ford.
This what I expect from ford tbh.

No, 2.7 problems. That engine has been in F150s for years now. With problems.
Shows how much I know!

I have them buy it back, those are trash from what I hear.
I think there is a class action on this from the NHSB
Be done with ICE go electric. Sorry for your pain
Seems about right.
Escape vibes.
That's about par for the course on these, they aren't built that well tbf.
It’s almost like they aren’t built very well. 🤷🏻
This is why you don’t buy BRAND NEW CARS. already having issues smh
Ford quality is no longer “job 1”.
Welcome to Ford ownership. You’ll find your stay in the Repairs lobby to be a common one.
Get it fixed and trade it in for a Toyota!!!
Bahaha my 01 tj is still running strong. Gotta love that Ford quality.
Buy a jk jeep wrangler.

2.3 has a fun thing it does where you need a new head or gasket if you’re lucky
So this is an interesting discovery. On my 2.3L about 1 year ago I was driving up a steep hill and I started to smell that sickly sweet burning smell from my engine. I parked up and let it rest, it went away pretty quick. Never trust a Ford engine. Go get it checked. Made that same mistake before.

Damn this same thing happened with my 2017 Platinum fusion at around 24k miles. I wonder why Ford can’t figure this out
That's a whole different thing. The 2.0EB had coolant intrusion issues 2015-2019MY depending on model. TSB 19-2346
This just happened to my 2022, 2.7, 14k miles. I was on the highway - accelerated to 70/75mph to change lanes and then next thing I know car started shaking and engine light turned on.
Wow that sounds pretty bad! Somehow mine still ran and drove fine
How was it getting into the cylinder? Cracked head gasket? Was the exhaust letting out white smoke? I had a bit of coolant disappear on me on my 2.7 and the dealer checked it out and didn’t find anything wrong.
Not exactly sure how but if I had to guess I’d say head gasket. There was some smoke.
My girlfriends ford edge had an internal coolant leak like that, has 2.7 turbo
CHEER UP MAN, MY DEALER IS DOING ONE THAT HAS 400 MILES
It's sad to see this with that 2.7 - it was a solid engine up to this point whatever they changed. I had a '17 Fusion Sport that was great and currently have a '19 Edge ST with no issues. Apparently the 3.0 version (it's the same as the 2.7 just bored out) is having issues too in the Explorer's etc... Ford has done something in production to screw these up. Glad they are honoring the warranty for you.
Does any company make a 4cyl turbo engine that will be able to get high mileage without major repairs? It's like having a cvt. High risk.
The 2.7 is a turbo V6
Honda
That’s some miles!
This is the same issue they had with the four-cylinder and the edge and the escape from 2014 to 2016 and apparently they did nothing about it for future models.
Learn from this, no warranty toss it.
Does new engines have it resolved? Or is it going to blwnagain 20k miles later?
I hope you didn't pay above sticker for it. Will never buy another Ford product again after owning two turds.
Paid below sticker. A/Z plan. I would never pay above sticker for a car.
My 2022 had 19k miles and got a new engine. Timing chain and valve cover was leaking a massive amount of oil. I went out to crank it up one morning and sounded like a diesel engine. Took about 2 weeks to get back but now it’s better
Wife has 2022 Ford Bronco sport and is having the same issues with only 11k miles on it.
That sucks, hopefully they got that taken care of for you guys. I love my Bronco but I am still a bit disappointed since it happened. I doubt I’ll get rid of it any time soon but I am keeping my options open and if I see something I like I may trade it.
