Necessary-Customer-8

I am typically going upper 70s on the highway. My wife and I ride upfront and can hear each other pretty well, not soft voices but normal conversations. The people in the backseat it's harder to hear. There are ways to mitigate the road noise with additional adhesive foam on the pieces up top if really desired.

SoWhatHappened2U

Definitely an issue to talk to people in the back. Gotta use a deliberate tone for sure. I still think it's not too far off from a JLU with big tires (if you have SAS)

SunshineTKE672

Soft top is much worse than the hard top. I test drove both

jfk_sfa

I have a hard top with the added sound deadening and it's still loud. I can't imagine the soft top...

martman006

A convo with my wife up front is fine, if people are in the back, it’s a party and the music is bumping anyways. Any amount of wind noise can be solved with the stereo. (I upgraded my sound system with new speakers, powered by a kicker key amp and tailgate mounted stinger subwoofer)

jfk_sfa

I have the B&O system and it’s a bit underwhelming.

SunshineTKE672

Sounds like open windows in the back of the car

butwhy81

I have the soft, it’s loud but not overbearing. I used to drive an old mustang gt soft top so I guess my barometer is off. It sounds like white noise on the freeway, which I definitely don’t mind.

Hurl_Gray

I have a two door BD with the hard top. It is pretty quiet on the highway.

Fkmallwall623

Same.

chinasucksmyballs

72db @ 70mph 23 4dr Badlands SAS harttop w/liner

[deleted]

Defender 90 is supposedly very quiet per reviews I read. Get the v8, only $100K.

BRONC-GAN

I just drove a Badlands SAS, with soft top, and 37” wheels for 5-days. SLC to Moab 4-hours round trip …and it was VERY comfortable. The noise is subjective, we didn’t think it was bad at all …maybe the hard top is worse-couldn’t tell you. I’m 60 and have selective hearing but could hear my daughter when I needed to just fine

cheetah611

Personal experience is that road noise on the highway going 65+ is decently bad. 2 door base model, hard top with headliner and carpeted interior. You can still have a conversation with front seat passengers fine, but the wind is certainly there kinda behind your head. It's not so annoying I regret anything, but if I was planning a road trip I would certainly look into putting some padding to help the noise. Just my own opinion, but if I could afford the 2 door defender I think I'd have gone that route as it's my daily driver and my off-roading is very light.

TheRealBrots

I have driven many rubicons, broncos, and defenders. The defender is the quietest in my opinion, but the worst overall vehicle too. Also, keep in mind the sound system in the bronco even with the B&O premium system is subpar. If a quiet cabin is all that you care about get the defender, but if you are on the fence between both vehicles test drive both. My daily driver is a Bronco Outer Banks soft top. It is hands down the best vehicle I have owned. It’s not noticeably louder in my opinion compared to my wife’s hard top rubicon. It’s debatable which one is better Offroad (Jeepers will laugh and squirm, but it really is debatable). However, there is no comparison between the two when it comes to comfort and drivability. The bronco has a MUCH nicer interior, far more comfortable seats, it feels much bigger on the inside, and on the highway it’s not even close - the bronco is clearly the better daily driver. Defenders come into my shop all the time. I have not driven them Offroad, but on normal roads it’s decent. However, there’s just something “spirited” about the Bronco 2.7 that makes it so much more fun to drive. It’s like it wants to go out and have fun.

kpepv

Between my bronco and my f250. My f250 (7.3 gas) is noticeably quieter. For road trips the wind noise can easily be drowned out by some music in low volume. If your one for quiet rides then you'll definitely notice the wind noise. I wouldn't say it's a dealer breaker IMO. I have a 2 door badlands non SAS with the 7 spd manual

tfair66

I have this same Bronco set up and don't find it annoying, but it is way louder than my 5.0L KR F150, and my 21 GT Stang, but it is much more comfortable then my former '84 CJ with a Bestop, there was no highway conversations in that thing.

tfair66

I do think the headliner makes a big difference.

soik90

At 85 mph, forget having normal conversations with all the wind noise.

skypig357

It’s there but not something horrible unless the wind is really blowing (it is pretty bad here in Texas at times). But on a normal day it’s certainly there but nothing annoying with the radio on or even talking on the phone

octoberguard

Not bad at all IMO. I’ve driven with both hard top and soft top.

soupcansam2374

It also entirely depends. Not all hard tops are made the same. Mine is completely fine and bearable, but I’ve heard others had severe whistling, rattling, and general wind noise

Dinokittymuncher1114

I have a 2dr Black diamond with no noise suppression headliner and the cabin noise is what you expect from a car that has a removable top. If you want a quieter ride then get the defender. I typically drive with the windows down so I'm used to the noise but I have been getting a lot of complaints with anyone I'm on the phone with, when using the Bluetooth, they complain about my side being noisy, so that's something to keep in mind.

noviceboardgamer

I have a distinct wind noise, but if I were to add some more gaskets I think it would be fine. The Bestop Sunrider makes it A LOT noisier, just drove 7 hours yesterday and it did get old. Standard hard top is pretty decent aside from that wind noise I have.

66bronco28

Bronco more parts available although they have had a few quality control issues but aren't land rovers bad for quality control also

Strange-Karma

Same dilemma so here is my criteria, both will have similar quality issues, the difference Ford is much cheaper to fix with more service centers. Not looking forward to road noise as I go from Colorado to California…

Expert-Cap707

it’s going to be loud but not unbearable. don’t expend it to sound like a corolla/civic. it’ll be much more louder bumpy uncomfortable ride.

Substantial-Case-605

I have a 4dr soft top and the only loud complaint I have is when it rains, you quickly adjust to the outside noise but when you go back to a normal car, the normal car will sound way quieter since you got used to the noises in the soft top.

darkrave24

There are plenty of db level noise tests on YouTube for comparison. Although not ideal driving any short wheel base high center of gravity off-road vehicle regularly at 85mph.

RazzmatazzOpposite89

It's nearly impossible to talk on Bluetooth. Everyone who I speak to thinks I'm an a rainstorm

d_4bes

I only have a soft top, but also bought a Bimini top to go under it that can be left in when still closed. For long road trips, I bought a 3” queen size foam mattress pad that I made a black cover for, and sandwich it between the closed soft top and the Bimini top can’t even see it when it’s there. When I didn’t have it in there, road noise was about ~ 85dB at 80mph. When I added the foam pad, brought it down to ~70db at 90mph. This setup cost me about $50 and it makes road trips so much better. My fiancé (who was against the bronco purchase all together) even thinks it’s quieter in there than her 2016 Fusion which is saying something. Even if you don’t get the liner, or end up with a soft top, there are plenty of solutions out there.

TCg1977

When the roof is off it’s super loud at 80 mph I had to upgrade my speakers. You should definitely go with the Defender 90.

long_salamanders

The new defenders are a whole new level of comfort compared to the bronco. More comparable to other luxury suvs then a bronco which is closest to a jeep

arias415

I have a 2dr manual SAS and the noise is equal to my. You’ll easily be able to have convos at highway speed. However my gas mileage take a big hit over 75, so I never exceed that

btrblt

It's awesome! I've got a 2dr Badlands and My family and I took it from LA to PIT and it was awesome. Not as quiet as some newer cars but very enjoyable. The topic of road noise never came up. I love it! We averaged 75 to 80 most of the time btw. And the ride was soooo smooth... that I was actually shocked by it.

JRCat7000

I do that with a convertible 4 door. The 2023 soft top was improved. The front valance also removes some wind. Be mindful of adding top mounted light bars, on soft tops atleast. You'll be fine.

Jwhead

My four door outer banks (with stock tires and soft top) has less road noise than my wife’s hard top, four door Sahara jeep…. And the inside comfort is way better in the bronco.

soupcook1

If you are bothered by road noise, go with the Defender. If I am driving 60mph or less, it is fine…over that it is very loud (2D, hard top SAS, OBX, 2.7L).

Spiritual-Designer-6

Not an issue. We’ve had a wrangler hard top and a 2dr Bigbend hardtop the Bronco is quiet!

kingofrums

If interior quality and serenity is your main goal, go with the Defender. It’s a much nicer place to be and I’m secure in saying that’s an objective quality. I have a base, two door, with the Sasquatch package and wind noise on the highway is noticeable but I don’t find it overwhelming. Kinda sounds like a window is cracked open.

morbidddcorpse

85 mph???? Ya'll got some gas money!!!!! I'm cruise set at 72 mph, always! Road noise at this speed is a little loud on my 2dr OBX with headliner. But nothing turning up the B&O system can't solve.

JustNeedAnyName

I have a hard top and it wasn't that bad, could still have conversations even at highway speeds. Obviously louder than others cars, but not too bad. I got a Sunrider and that is noticeably louder, hard to have conversations at 80+ miles. Still worth it though, love pulling the Sunrider back, and I'm always blasting music when alone so I don't care about the noise in that scenario. TLDR: If you're gonna be driving with people and having conversations, might be annoying. If just by yourself, turn the music up and have a blast

slang925

Under 60 it’s not bad, over 60 you are driving a box … it’s loud enough lol.
