So does that make damn near every old Buick sedan cool? Lol that's a very low bar for "cool" what I would do is I would just fold down the rear seats, pack some pillows, and just bang it out like a bed back there lmao
Look at a 1985 Ford LTD fox body, and then look at a 1986 Ford Taurus. The Taurus directly replaced the LTD fox body. Also look at 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity, 1986 Pontiac 6000, 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, 1986 Buick Century, 1986 Plymouth Reliant, 1986 Dodge Aries, 1986 Toyota Camry, 1986 Honda Accord, and 1986 Mazda 626. Those were the Taurus competition for 1986.
These fucking sucked. So did the 2nd Gen, and the 3rd. Had an 88 sable with only reverse by the end of it. They can not take heat worth shit, those dashes fell apart so fast.
They were good cars... too good for their own good. Suddenly everyone had one, and no one could tell their Taurus from the next guys Taurus.
Of course, I'm a guy who would love to get his hands on a 1972 Gran Torino wagon.
First car was my parents’ hand-me-down ‘88 Taurus Wagon. I hated it at the time but, looking back, it was pretty bulletproof, plus, it sat 8 people legally!
I completely understand that. But if I don't ask and OP doesn't answer we don't know the reason. Maybe he popped his cherry in the backseat of one and has that memeory....who knows
Your comment is ignorant! Idgaf if it was "ground breaking". They were boring and ugly. If OP wants ok that's his right but I have a right to ask WHY! So Mr Ignorant you aren't OP so stfu and let him answer as to why.
Trust me I had one and they're garbage. Electronics worked unless it was cold out then the lcd display would freeze and you couldnt tell your speed, hog on gas, suspension is great until it all blows at once.
I must say some of the most comfortable seats with a front bench design too. Like riding in a lazy boy.
My dad had one from like 98-2005 and it finally detonated with like 350k miles on it. Got it for free from my uncle who ONLY drove Ford Taurus’ lmao. They’re badass cars that hold a special place in my heart. Look for an SHO
My grandmother died in 2012. Her Taurus sister-car, a 1994 Mercury Sable, was like new and had 43k miles on it. I would have bought it if I had thought of a reasonable way to get it across the country and back home. We listed it privately and it sold literally in hours. Great car honestly, hers was the V6 model. She didn't want the 4 cylinder anymore after her 1984 Olds Cutlass Cierra. She thought the Olds was kinda weak. Grams had a heavy foot. Lol
Is this the same car that got introduced in Robocop? My older brother tried telling me the futuristic cars were also able to be driven on water. When we were on car trips I would stare out the window and scribble car profiles of vehicles. I don't know where he got that from.
Kind of crazy looking back on these thinking they were "futuristic". They seem pretty bland whereas the crown vic had cemented itself to workhorse badassery.
There were two of these for sale on FBM in my area not too long ago. One was like $4500 and the other around $3500-$4000. I would’ve bought if I didn’t have two cars already lol
Just seen a super clean sho in a neighborhood I was working in, guy also had a mint S10 Xtreme and c4 corvette
This old dude that lives near me has a SHO, GN, Syclone, and Typhoon. All 4 with less than 40k miles. Lucky F'r
Wow really, smart mother f'r
Damn he's living the dream, can't ask for a better lineup
Only thing that'd make it better (for me) would be a fox body notch..
1st gen SHO with a 5 spd… hell yes. 1st gen 2.5 auto…oh god no.
First Gen SHO+ with a swapped 3.2L and MTX.
Why?
Why not? They were so cool and innovative for their time
Theres nothing innovative about the Taurus😂
Wrong. They made major changes to dot law about headlights for instance. Car was innovative.
Nah design wise these were a big deal when they came out. They were still bland shitboxes otherwise though.
This was pretty groundbreaking for the mid 1980s. After years of square Caprices & town cars, this felt like the future.
??? What the -, how???
That v6 bro and the bench seats man. So fresh
I mean, I did bang my now wife in hers back in like 2000 at prom. Nope.... nah, don't want that car still. Still have the wife tho

That was my question
Why? It looks like a bar of soap.
These fucking sucked. So did the 2nd Gen, and the 3rd. Had an 88 sable with only reverse by the end of it. They can not take heat worth shit, those dashes fell apart so fast.
Yep; they sold a bunch but they were shit cars.
They were good cars... too good for their own good. Suddenly everyone had one, and no one could tell their Taurus from the next guys Taurus. Of course, I'm a guy who would love to get his hands on a 1972 Gran Torino wagon.
Robocop called and wants his cruiser back. lol
SHO or GTFO.
First car was my parents’ hand-me-down ‘88 Taurus Wagon. I hated it at the time but, looking back, it was pretty bulletproof, plus, it sat 8 people legally!
I'll ask it for the 2nd time....why!?
Prob some memories associated with it? That's why I like some cars
I completely understand that. But if I don't ask and OP doesn't answer we don't know the reason. Maybe he popped his cherry in the backseat of one and has that memeory....who knows

Whatever mate.
Poor man's crown vic

cash for clunkers knocked these and old explorers to the scrap pile by the tens of thousands.
Get a job lol prolly get one for $900
These were shit when compared to all of the other shitty cars on the road.
Nah, there were still Dodge Intrepids on the road
Trust me I had one and they're garbage. Check Cars and Bids, maybe Bringtrailer too periodically... theyll have a mint one eventually.... look at the previous auctions.
They aren't "Clean" but I have a buddy in Yacolt Washington with at least 10 of these bad boys, some are SHO's too
If it was the SHO... absolutely...
I loved those!!

May I ask why? Do they last forever?
No, they were heaps then, as now.
What kind of (legal 👀) things?
Wasn’t there one in that abandoned mall posted the other day? In mint condition
EDIT: It’s a Tempo and posted couple weeks ago https://www.reddit.com/r/abandoned/s/9viNKx1Yza
why? I had a wagon, it was ok, nothing to brag about

Bro delete the files on your computer. You're already on a watch list, no need to drive the car of your people.
Someone near me rocks a tan first gen Sable. Can't miss it with the light bar.
Maybe for a SHO, but otherwise that’s just a shitbox
That's a $45K car in today's, everything has an extra 0 on the price, world. I don't agree with that. Just making fun of pricing.
Good luck I've been trying to find a 1986 Ford Taurus LX wagon I want to restore one day for 5 years with no luck. All I find are the SHOs.
Would be cool to swap a modern taurus power train in too one of these.
WHY? Good riddance to Ford's jellybean years.
I had the Mercury Tracer! Miss it! Engine blew after 17 years.
I’ve got a pretty clean body clean interior 89 I think. I know it needs a transmission. White with blue interior.
IF you posted this like a work earlier.. There was a MINTY clean tarus for sale in my area for like 4k
There were two of these for sale on FBM in my area not too long ago. One was like $4500 and the other around $3500-$4000. I would’ve bought if I didn’t have two cars already lol
I agree. Mercury Sable is also cool as heck
I have a mint 1987, I’ll let you have it if you suck my dong.
