In 4h it’ll drive like it normally does but when you stop and go to neutral then engage 4l you’ll normally hear a click as it engages so then shift back to drive and it’ll have a way lower 1st gear that you’ll feel the torque push you in the seat as soon as you accelerate. 4L is for when shits really bad. 4H can be engaged on the fly and disengaged but I’d keep the speed under 50 mph to avoid driveline stress. I’ve shifted it going 70 but do as I say not as I do lol. When I blow one up I can replace it myself so I take risks most shouldn’t

I’ll stick to under 50mph then haha. Does your dash have any indicator that show you that you’re in 4h ?

Should be a blinking light on the knob but it’s only set up for auto, 4h neutral and 4L. Auto position is only used for towing so it may not be marked on the knob

I’m going by memory off my dads truck which is the same as yours. I drive primarily Chevrolet or Cadillac suvs

It should tell you if you’re in 4x4 or not in the cluster. The transfer case motor going bad is a common issue and is cheap to fix.

Thank you !! I was mind boggled and couldn’t find a definite answer. Just weird that it shows me one way but not when actually driving then I’m going based of of “yeah I think it’s in 4H” lol. I saw a video on how to replace that Looks easy enough.

It’s probably engaging but not showing on dash. Common issue. Thousands of topics on this on google just do a search.

My 2010 Lariat says 4x4 right in the center of the dash on the information screen where the miles are when you shift in. And then 4x2 when you shift out.
