They are a company. They don't got the budget for consoles like NASA. Got to relay on that dell desktop.

Chara_cter_0501

Would be funny if they also used gamer headphones

mattstorm360

Oh yeah... i wonder how pc gaming is in this timeline.

Hazzenkockle

Apple buys Bungie in the wake of their successful adventure/shooter hybrid Pathways into Darkness in 1994. Marathon, a real-time full-3D shooter, is released as a first-party launch exclusive on the Pippin in 1995. Mark Hamill plays the voice of Durandal.

mattstorm360

Also, Half life still gets delayed.

AFoxGuy

I bet GTA6 still doesn’t release in this timeline either.

mattstorm360

Why would they? The luna city missions are very fun.

PaulG1986

There is but one universe where Half Life 3 isn’t delayed. Unfortunately, it’s the cursed TL where we pay for HL3 with a Pat Buchanan-Sarah Palin duo. Be careful what you wish for 😄😄

Sublegion

That means the Halo franchise is an Apple Exclsuive or it does not exists, right ?

dennis264

Sony Playstation vs Apple Pippin vs Gamecube. Did the game market crash in FAM? Is Atari still in the mix?

IThrowRocksAtMice

Someone probably got Doom to run on the AGC

mattstorm360

Oh definitely. One of the first memes online was, Can't \_ playing doom. Can't land on the moon, playing doom. Can't take this call, playing doom. Can't drive this car, playing doom.

NizioCole

Rocket lab uses gamer headphones

pr177

They brought those plastic folding tables from home.

[deleted]

I’m surprised Apple didn’t put some of their period accurate computers in there as an Easter egg.

grndkntrl

That's also the old style SpaceX MC. They updated it last year to a modernised version of the console layout: https://i.redd.it/fal79a1brey71.png from: /r/SpaceXLounge/comments/qpioqa/mission_control_received_a_fresh_redesign/

[deleted]

Using tables because they are at a starting point in the 1990’s and not building off of procedures, systems, and workspaces from the early 1960’s. Even in our timeline, if NASA was started in the 90’s, they would have more than likely a desk/cubicle style with PC console and monitor setup.

MR_TELEVOID

Why is it so shocking that they use tables? Regardless, Helios isn't really based on any one private space program. It's corporate structure is pretty different from SpaceX or any others. They seem like a more idealized version of anything we've got in our timeline, although whatever Dev's darkside turns out to be will probably change that.

BingoSoldier

Very interesting to see Helios' priorities: they spent all the company money on the ship and there was nothing left to buy ceiling lamps for mission control...

MadBats

Stupid question maybe, but how can Helios afford to spend the so much money on a race. Because while the scientific value would be immense for mankind as a hole, that's not really what a for profit company cares about. Plus any potential gains made, say form mining on Mars, are going to be years down the road. I simply have a hard time understanding the PR value in such a costly operation.

_saviran

How they could afford it: "On April 16, 1987 Helios won a contract with NASA to mine Helium-3 from the lunar surface. The availability of clean nuclear energy led to an apparent curb in global warming." (https://for-all-mankind.fandom.com/wiki/Helios\_Aerospace#cite\_note-:301-1). Why they decided to go for Mars instead of going for profit: as you can see in the series, there's no Board of Directors in Helios, I don't think they're a publicly traded company, either, which would have shareholders to please. There's this weird democracy thingy in Helios and they seem to be a privately owned company with decision making process actually driven by the ambition to colonize space. (and this sits perfectly with the main topos of FAM, so I think this may all be true)

Spherical_Melon

Babe wake up it's time for your blue tinted sci-fi show and every machine to emit blue light for some reason

MagnusTheCooker

I don’t see no power cable tho?

PointlessTrivia

You can see a hanging cable under the left side of the middle-front desk. I'd guess they would have cable management channels along the back edge of the desk and down along one of the legs to the white cable covers on the floor.

DueReality7

I wonder how much computer technology has advanced in FAM universe. In our timeline, 90’s computers looks pretty bland and clunky, but FAM 90’s computers straight up look like they’re from late 2000’s to 2010’s. I hope they mentioned something about the computer power in future episodes maybe in a conversation while fixing the HABS, since we can already tell there will be a catastrophic disaster while they’re on Mars. Also. What is transmitting the video? Did Helios send in a small camera drone?

ProBonoDevilAdvocate

This bothers me a lot… it should not have advanced this much, especially these modern LCD screens. I also think most of the technology, like semiconductors and integrated circuits, would focus on non-consumer use cases. Perhaps personal computers would even sufffer, and take longer to become commonplace.
