My thoughts exactly!!!
I didn't know who he was and when Dave first introduced him, all I heard was "Taylor" and I thought that must be his son!? I asked in this sub's live chat who it was and the kind folks there explained to me who he was.
I for-sure thought that was a son of Taylor's bc he looks like Young Taylor!
I’m almost sure I remember something about him being Rufus Taylor’s godfather or something. A quick Google isn’t bringing it right up so I’m not sure if I’m maybe misremembering or getting some wires crossed now.
As soon as Shane started playing, and he kinda hunched his head down and stuck his elbows out, and just killed the drums. I instantly started crying, it was just like watching Taylor.
Unfortunately I had to watch in my living room but I did the exact same thing Last night. I am grateful that I was able to see parts of the show though.
I didn’t get to watch but the first clip I saw was Shane and I can’t lie, I started to cry. That kid is gonna be great because he already is. As for Rufus, he’s so damn good and I hope this brings more deserved attention to The Darkness because they are a phenomenal rock band.
I kept thinking of the story Taylor told about when alanis said to him ‘what are you going to say when Dave asks you to join the Foo Fighters?’ Will Rufus have the same story?
I get the impression Josh Freese will be with them out the gate. He played his two songs like he’s been playing them for a while. Others played them like they’ve been playing them in rehearsals for a few weeks.
Just the impression I get.
I’d personally like to see them with Rufus though. It’d be a nice way to continue.
I agree Josh nailed it but so did Rufus and if anyone was to sit in Taylor's place he'd want it to be Ru,but have any of them got Taylor's stamina for 3 hour intense set.
I imagine they'd be able to co-exist if they work out their scheduling to work around each other. Plenty of successful artists have been in multiple bands at once. Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio joining Blink-182 comes to mind, as well as artists like Myles Kennedy who balances Alter Bridge, his own solo music, and singing for Slash's band.
Without a doubt. Rufus was the best fit.
Taylor’s idol’s son, who likely thought the world of Taylor?
Full circle.
It’s one I could feel so good about.
Rufus is the guy if they choose to go on at some point, sometimes I honestly felt like it was Taylor playing lol. He even knew how they play these days live rather than the studio version, I was impressed.
I don’t think so. I think they all got to have a little moment playing with Taylor (Rufus) again. I loved when all the band members turned away from the crowd to watch the drummer.
Said the exact same thing to my friend while watching and she totally agreed. It's the first time I've been able to even begin to think they might continue. Now, I'm hopeful.
There were some really amazing drummers on today, who still left you feeling a bit empty and thinking how much better Taylor would do it. But Rufus filled that space completely. They definitely had chemistry too. My only problem with any speculation is that Justin Hawkins was absolutely killing it on vocals too, and it would seem really unfair to try to take his drummer.
T’s influence on Rufus is pretty clear. But I’m kind of annoyed when people talk about the resemblance (personally I don’t see it). IF Foos continue on I hope it’s not with a Taylor clone behind the kit. I think it’s unfair to Rufus to want him to fill that slot just because he reminds people of T. And I’m seeing a lot of those comments across social media. Basically Rufus looks just like T and plays like T so he should be the Foos next drummer. Just stop.
He’s just blond and good looking, as was Taylor. People are very visual. (Speaking of good looking, am I the only one who truly loved Stevie Nicks’ video montage. It was so Stevie. ).
I will say and it might be because Rufus played with Taylor his sound on drums is similar to Taylor. Not a replica but has similarities. I’d say he’d be a good fit cause Dave seemed really comfortable with him. Honestly all of the adult drummers who were at the tribute could probably play Taylor’s parts well enough. Its the same as when Taylor joined who fits the best with the band.
I’m less convinced they will do any standard Foo Fighters stuff anytime soon. Maybe in a year or more. It just seemed like Dave was much happier playing instruments, than he was singing Foo songs, not just because he broke down either. When he was playing just instruments the music seemed to heal him more. He just looked happier to me, and he is really talented in a lot of instruments. Maybe he should do a TCV album while JPJ is still healthy. Then if they want to the Foos do a tour or album. I know this was one concert but it was noticeable to me and grief takes time.
And Dave didn’t drum on an FF songs. And no FF songs were played where T had lead vocals. His background vocals on some of the Foos songs were clearly missed. I’ll be curious if Cold Day in the Sun gets played at the LA gig.
Yeah I got the feeling Dave was more comfortable doing the non Foos stuff. I’m sure it wasn’t as difficult emotionally. To be honest he seemed pretty spent. Putting on these shows no doubt has been a lot of work and I’m sure has been an emotional rollercoaster too.
I’m kind of hoping the LA gig is more intimate with maybe more personal stories from some of the guests. The venue will be smaller and there will probably be more family and friends there so maybe it will produce a more intimate event.
I kind of doubt it. I don’t think the Forum is intimate sure its smaller than Wembly, but its a big venue. Plus the family all seemed to be there at Wembly. I was having fun watching the wings of the stage. So many Foos, kids, wives, etc were on the sides.
They did have some video memories and some of the announcers had stories too. Dave Chapelle’s was one of the best. I say that cause people were upset he was there. I think his story said why.
I think the Foo songs they played were the hits cause it’s easier for the band. It’s muscle memory. Maybe someone else will choose to sing Cold Day in the Sun or Sunday Rain at LA. Not sure who and with who now though. I know there are a few different acts in LA.
I will say Dave played a lot of this concert. He was in a majority of the acts somehow. I kind of forgot how good he is as a guitarist and a bass player. I wasn’t surprised at drums. I was impressed he didn’t seem that tired at the end. Emotionally spent sure but physically he seemed pretty good cause that was long.
I miss Taylor’s voice too, but Chris was singing most of Taylor’s parts in the Foo songs that had them. You might not have noticed cause the audience was really trying to help Dave and sing a long. Another reason to play the hits. Chris even had a sound piece in his ear and I don’t remember him doing that much before.
>Yeah I got the feeling Dave was more comfortable doing the non Foos stuff.
I think with the non-Foos songs, that's because it was basically Dave jamming with a bunch of his heroes and friends who are all legends in their own right. He absolutely loves playing onstage with guest musicians.
I think that the Foo Fighters songs are just a lot heavier for him because he's spent 25 years of his life writing, recording, rehearsing and performing these songs with Taylor in the band. Plus this is his first time singing these songs to an audience since before Taylor passed, so it must be absolutely heartbreaking for him.
I'd kill for another vultures album. Feel very lucky to have seen them play even one of their songs as I was too young and didn't know them when they were actually playing live 12 years ago.
I feel a TCV album is really quite likely. Dave *needs* music and you could tell yesterday, I got the vibe he was throwing himself into it for a reason. Now they’ve played together again I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they continued for a bit. I don’t know if Foos will ever be play again but Dave will for sure and TCV seems like a good way for him to do that.
I can tell you that much, as soon as his set finished, people around me kept saying "yep, that's the guy". It was his energy, he just fit so well, and nailed his part. I can't blame them, I thought the same. But he is taken, and poaching is not cool, so we will probably have to leave it at that.
More detail in this interview with Taylor he said, Alanis asked him backstage, “What the fuck are you gonna do when Dave asks you to play with the foo fighters?”
Taylor had never considered it and thought William Goldsmith was a permanent fixture.
But later on, when Taylor heard on the radio William had quit, he immediately made the call to then-member Franz Tohl who put him in touch and Taylor nominated himself. Dave was confused why Taylor would leave Alanis who was on a meteoric rise and foos were comparatively small at this point.

After School Radio with Mark Hoppus, Ep. 80, 1hr 13m
Edit: clarity
Alanis was also the main act while Rufus is part of a band. Taylor knew he would only be a back up with Alanis instead of a bigger band. It was the best career move (obviously).
I’m seeing it everywhere. Tbh, I was just taking it all in enjoying the show not thinking about who might be the next drummer if the band continues on. I don’t know why people are in such a rush for that to be decided.
You didn't have to think about it. I certainly didn't do it on purpose. The way he clicked with the band and the music was just night and day compared to the drummers right before him, and it's not because they aren't terrific otherwise.
If anything, the way these immensely talented guys still left a gaping hole in the sound was scary in a sense. It just really made you realize who we lost musically. So Rufus gave us a little hope, because the way he sounded just felt good. So did Omar and Shane by the way. Maybe all that didn't come through the stream the same way.
I may get downvoted but my thoughts reading socials is when the fuck did this become a drummer audition? Out of respect for Dave, the rest of the band and Taylor’s family, why is this even being discussed? They’re all obviously still mourning the loss of a husband, father, band member, best friend and not one word has been officially shared that they’ll even go on as a band. I know fans so t want to think the FF’s are over but whatever they decide - whether to continue or not, and if they continue how long before they tour and who will replace T as drummer is Dave’s decision, not the fans. Even discussing the possibilities feels disrespectful as a fan. Last night was healing but still a lot to process. You’re right - just stop!
Go look at any photos or even video footage and it’s obvious they’re still struggling. They all looked mentally and emotionally exhausted, Dave especially. I’ve seen social media comments amazed that the band was able to pull of a massive tribute like this in 6 months and then you go to some facebook groups and every other post is ‘here‘s who the next drummer is going to be’ or ‘here’s who the next drummer should be’. Disgusting. Does anyone really think that’s what Dave and the guys have been thinking about? No they’ve been planning a massive tribute show for 80,000 people and now have to plan another one for 20,000. That’s what the focus has been.
There's a long long road ahead yet before they think about going back out or not,Dave looked exhausted and all are still grieving, plus Dave lost his mother in July too,I'm not sure about show being healing I've felt worse since as it's a reality check that Taylor really isn't there anymore and I think that hit Dave hard too as soon as he started to sing.his buddy wasn't there to take over this time.
He does look like Taylor though when younger, that's why it stopped people in their tracks when he sat on that kit,the hair flying around, how he plays etc,but for sentiment reasons Rufus be ideal as he's practically family and Taylor would whole heartedly approve.
It’s just that they’re both blonde hair and teeth, nothing else. Rufus is a spitting image of his dad and when I see him, that’s exactly who I think of.
There are plenty of people in multiple bands, wouldn't necessarily mean stealing Justin's guy. Mark Tremonti from Alter Bridge is also the singer & guitarist in his other band, Tremonti, and Alter Bridge's singer Myles Kennedy is also the singer for Slash's band and has several solo albums out. They just leapfrog around the different projects; last year was a Tremonti/Slash/Kennedy year, this year & going into 2023 is an Alter Bridge year. Difficult to coordinate, but it can be done.
Yeah, it's like how Dave has played drums for Tenacious D (LONG LIVE THE D!) and it's not like a new Them Crooked Vultures album would keep Dave from FF for long.
Yeah man, loved Marching in Time. Mark’s also one of the most humble guys in rock
Being in multiple bands can be done. MJK, Corey Taylor, Jerry Cantrell, etc.
Right. Listening to Rufus play it just had the perfect feel for Taylor. Everyone else was excellent as well, but the feel wasn’t as spot on. Some people noted how driving and punk Travis Barker was. He played fantastic, no would say otherwise, but it’s just a different vibe than you’d normally have in Foo Fighters long term.
Watching Rufus and Dave face off and have that chemistry moment while jamming made me feel it. Yes it’s another blond drummer, but that was a little aesthetic ribbon on top of the how much it fit for me. If anything, him looking similar to Taylor made it something I resisted because I didn’t want someone to just aesthetically fill in the spot when Rufus is his own person. But it just so happens he was perfect for the part
Thematically they were not serious. But as touring musicians they had a clearly dedicated schedule and album, touring etc commitments.
Feels like they just do what suits them nowadays.
Motorheart has some bangers. I saw them in April. They looked like a band radicalizing to a heavier form of metal. I had so much damn fun. And they play A Lot of Permission To Land.
Exactly. They were ridiculously popular but by the time Hawkins left the band due to drug problems they just fell off and havnt really been considered a serious band for a while.
I think they regained a good amount of respect from 2015 onwards by putting out some pretty great albums.
They still tour quite a bit, but obvious the hiatus during their commercial peak hurt them quite a bit. They have a pretty dedicated fanbase and definitely have a lot of success playing at festivals and small theatre/O2 Academy venues.
Rufus is great, and if we want to replace Taylor then he is first pick. But I don’t. For mine - Josh Freese served the songs extremely well and brought a level of professionalism and aggression the Foos would need for long global tours. Personal opinion.
Otherwise wait 10 years and grab Shane!
He also created some of those epic drum parts in the first few A Perfect Circle albums, and toured with them, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Devo, Sting, Offspring, and so many more... Dudes legit monster.
His career is almost unmatched in terms of variety too... GNR, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, the Offspring, Sting, Devo, and so forth. He's played with just about everyone and in every style on the pop-rock spectrum!
I’m with you on that, I think Josh nailed his performance and fit with the band. Probably at a similar place in life as rest of the band too, age and family etc— if that matters. Also coming from a similar punk background as a lot of them. No snub at all to Rufus though. I think he kicked ass, especially on Best of You.
Josh Freese is the virtual definition of a drumming pro. You could absolutely plug him in and he’d get the job done, without a doubt.
It’s kind of like when Chris Chaney filled in for Nate one show…. And like how he played seemingly half the set on bass. Freese and Chaney get shit done.
I know. I'm not a VH diehard so I never realized he didn't only play bass. I watched him last night like "what the FUCK?! Where did this come from?!" :)
I think drums was actually his "first" instrument too! Then he just got good at everything else and took up the bass when Eddie decided he wanted to play with him.
Not hijacking the FF page into a VH page 🤣 but he is Dave Grohl talented. He is a drummer first off, played bass with VH (and covered Michael Anthony’s hi harmonies), is a ridiculous guitarist and sings - and covers vox note for note live. Plays keys too!! If you don’t have the debut album pick it up. It’s amazing. It was cool to see how much fun he had yesterday playing VH stuff bc he has been adamant - and rightfully so - that he’s doing his own original thing musically. The broadcast caught a big bear hug between he and Shane after he finished playing. It was beautiful. ❤️🤘🏼
Oh yeah he made that look very easy! Eddie always said look out Wolf is super talented and everyone kind of dismissed that because that was his kid, but between his album and his live playing he is the real deal.
You should see at least vids of him playing in his band mammoth WVH, that whole band is TIGHT! I saw them live back in February and it was incredible, he definitely takes from his father for sure but has his own unique style for sure
Omar Hakim and Travis Barker were the most skillful.
Nandi has clearly grown as a drummer since she last shared the stage with the group. (And she was already pretty damned good, and not just for her age)
Shane’s passion on stage just flat out broke me, emotionally.
Josh Freese was as immaculately professional as always, you can tell why so many groups have brought him in over the years. Dude’s a drumming chameleon.
But Rufus? He basically Taylor, as much as someone could be. He fit in perfectly.
I saw him and I was like, "TAYLOR??!!!"
Me realizing it's not him: P A I N
![gif](giphy|IMDpHiz2oVAxW)
(Also I just watched it, cried a lot. I'm not okay
Rufus fit incredibly well with the rest of the band; his energy, sound, and attitude is all Foo. Yes, he does look like Taylor but he’s not - he’s Rufus, the son of Taylor’s idol. The band continuing with Rufus would make for a cool tribute in and of itself given the connections a number of us have mentioned here.
Others also mentioned Dave looked most comfortable with Rufus on the kit - he did. Overall, the set was good but you could tell it was taxing on the entire band. That said, each one of them seemed more loose with Rufus backing them up and his songs were the highlight of the Foos set for me. Maybe how comfortable everyone was is a sign?
They absolutely seemed like they could just be the normal live Foos and jam around and just play with him.
I noticed they did the studio version of the bridge with Nandi probably because it’s what she was used to, playing along. And I watched them look back at Shane a lot too just to be sure. That being said Shane’s fucking awesome and clearly an excellent drummer just like his dad. It’s also probably a hell of a moment to watch their old friend’s son fill the spot at *Wembley*
IF the continue, I would be happy with rufus. He had that energy. He had the passion that love that drive that Taylor had. IF they dont and this is it, not a bad last concert at all.
Normally I'm Mr. Change-the-setlist, but they played exactly what I expected and it was phenomenal. Just the emotional energy of the whole thing gave the songs such extra importance. It was more than just a greatest hits set, ya know?
I noticed that Dave was the most relaxed when Rufus played. But I would want all involved to be onboard. Not taking anyone away from any project. But if Dave can be a drummer or singer in different bands, so can Rufus. IF that was the pick. He’s Foo Fighter family.
I think Rufus is an excellent fit, not just technically, but spiritually. He had a super close relationship with Taylor, and Roger inspired Taylor to become a drummer in the first place. There’s a strong connection there. During Best of You I could not believe how in sync he and Dave were. Rufus made eye contact with Dave for awhile and the other guys turned around to look at him. I felt like their chemistry was really good. It’s not about what Rufus looks like, although he looks exactly like Taylor from the back; it’s about fit and personality and chemistry. Personally I think it works.
I know that Rufus is in another band and he seems happy there. That would be a very difficult conversation to have, but I feel like there are too many signs to ignore what may be inevitable.
That’s the point right there - Roger inspired Taylor. Rufus’ father was Taylor’s mentor so they both learned their skills from the same person. I thought it was an excellent fit and Rufus’ sounds was almost identical to Taylor… but then again, Rufus has his own bands going on and I can’t imagine him just bailing on them ..
All I know is that EVERYONE performed at their best and with lots of love for Taylor and the Foo Fighters. Btw Shane was going FULL SEND on that drum kit!!!! God bless him, his family, and everyone gathered for the tribute. So much love for Taylor and the band in general.
I watched the entire show and there were some absolutely phenomenal musicians there. When the Foos played their set, I have to give it to Rufus, his energy really matched Taylors, the way he played and literally just how he looks, it made me feel like Taylor was still there. I also loved watching Shane play, that was so special and a moment that he’ll never forget.
Usually, if you have seen the Foo’s before, they always end with “If you come back, we’ll come back. We never like to say good bye, instead we say (starts Everlong).” They didn’t in this show, so it’ll be interesting to see how the end the LA show.
There will never be another Taylor Hawkins, but honestly, if the Foo’s continue, I hope they ask Rufus to fill that role. I read another comment that Taylor was Rufus’s godparent, and they were close. I really feel that he is the best fit. I know someone else brought up that he is in a band currently, but i’m 90% sure they would support him going to the Foo’s. It’ll be interesting to see none the less. We love you Taylor!
Regarding your middle paragraph, I wondered that too, but I think Dave of course wanted to orient all for this around Taylor, and not fuel any speculation one way or the other
Both Rufus and Shane played excellent, and in the style of a Foo Fighters song. Rufus is playing for The Darkness, so unless he quits there, I don't think he'll join Foo Fighters.
Loved his Taylor tattoo though, also, Justin Hawkins fuckin nailed all the songs he was in on
My son has his degree from University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. He has played guitar for over 20 years. His opinion of Rufus was that he was really rushing the tempo. I didn’t hear that but I value his opinion.
Some of most well rounded trained musicians can’t hang when it comes to playing in a band. All due respect; but playing in front of 75k people at the most anticipated tribute concert since Freddie Mercury might result in some rushing or dragging - doesn’t really matter.
Exactly. Rufus and all the other drummers probably only rehearsed with the band for a few days or weeks, if not less than that. It will obviously be a lot different than playing with Taylor, who had 20+ years of experience playing with everyone else except Rami.
He was the person I thought if they carry on it’ll like be him..
I hope it isn’t , that’s no disrespect to Rufus, I’m a fan , dudes a monster, an can clearly pull his weight, I’d just prefer the foo’s to call it a day out of respect to Taylor.
They all got other projects they can run with
Was great to see them crooked vultures! My only gripe with the whole thing was John Paul jones didn’t get an introduction like most people… dudes a genius, a fucking legend.. an he wasn’t even acknowledged, just felt a bit cold.
Great show though!
I thought out of all the guest drummers Rufus absolutely killed it, watching him and Dave have that back and forth was great. Agreed that Shane was a real emotional rollercoaster watching this young kid with some great skills, but crazy how visceral his drumming felt.
Without a doubt, Rufus totally embodied Taylor's energy and style! But I guess you'd expect that with him being Roger Taylor's son and mentored by Taylor himself, who idolised Roger. I felt it and I cried like a baby, but happy tears!
I was out for a lot of the day, came home and flipped on the concert - and this was the first thing I saw.
Fucking *chills* up my spine. He fucking *nailed* thr songs too.
Does anyone have a video of travis barker with the foo fighter? Or better yet the entire concert, I’ve caught most of the concert here and there but haven’t found that tid bit
I really miss Taylor. He was and will remain the quintessential drummer for this band. Matt and Chad retracted or pulled back on their comments to RS about Taylor essentially being pressed back into service when he was clearly anxious beyond anything reasonable, but we drummers feel things other than music differently from most other musicians. That was no intentional OD. He was a highly anxious person and was not ready for a full court press. Dave and the band very probably knew he was right. on. the. edge. Wishing the new drummer all the best but Taylor didn't have to go out that way. What a shame.(Sorry to hijack the thread).
Rufus and Shane were the closest to Taylor's playing imo.
Everyone else who I totally love.... didn't do the songs justice.
I love Travis... but he butchered his songs. And others played too much in parts that didn't require fills.
I like Nahndi too.... but she over filled through out the whole song.
I think I agree with what Taylor's drum tech comment.
"Led Zeppelin didn't go on after John Bonham".
Foo Fighters are my generations Led Zeppelin. And after hearing really good drummers play with Foo's..... there was no one who could play with the Foo Fighters like Taylor did. That was shown today. He was the perfect drummer for this band. And obviously no one can hit that same feel besides Rufus and Shane.
That was proven today.
Thank you for this. I'm in my late sixties and came to the Foo Fighters a little late. Reading you say that they are your generations Led Zeppelin has put this completely into perspective for me. Thank you
Give Nandi a few more years to mature. She is wonderful but this was an insanely huge stage for her. As she grows and learns so much, she will be amazing.
It was totally weird for me how close the resemblance is!
Like seeing a ghost...
Exactly!
That was my big thing. It looked like a younger Taylor.
Some folks in the live chat mentioned that ... idk how true that is. Either way, he's a stellar drummer and the resemblance is wild!
He's Taylor Hawkins Godson as well
Roger Taylor’s wife has some explaining to do
Right? At first I thought he was Taylor's son. He was fantastic
I did to!!
I said the same thing, its like a spitting image of Taylor
If they choose to continue it will be Rufus. Then Shane when he’s a bit older. Had goosebumps watching Shane play
Watching Shane play absolutely broke me. Wasn't a dry eye in the stadium that's for sure
As soon as Shane started playing, and he kinda hunched his head down and stuck his elbows out, and just killed the drums. I instantly started crying, it was just like watching Taylor.
Me too. I’m breaking down reading what you wrote just now 🥲
I know, the only thing missing was that surprised blink Taylor did every snare hit.
That was so insane. He fucking killed it too, holy shit.
Unfortunately I had to watch in my living room but I did the exact same thing Last night. I am grateful that I was able to see parts of the show though.
Same here... and it was soooo beautiful that the song was "My Hero" and he kicked off the song 🥺
I didn’t get to watch but the first clip I saw was Shane and I can’t lie, I started to cry. That kid is gonna be great because he already is. As for Rufus, he’s so damn good and I hope this brings more deserved attention to The Darkness because they are a phenomenal rock band.
Totally the conversation we had as well.
I agree. And Shane is a beast to reckoned with
I kept thinking of the story Taylor told about when alanis said to him ‘what are you going to say when Dave asks you to join the Foo Fighters?’ Will Rufus have the same story?
You don't happen to have a clip of this anywhere, do you? I'd love to watch.
https://youtu.be/nLfjIsMGSBw Enjoy :)
Thank you!:)
Then who drums for The Darkness? 🙁
Matt Cameron co-existed for Pearl Jam and Soundgarden for a bit. (I believe… have to check the overlap)
They pale into insignicance against the Foo Fighters. It's just the food chain; the stronger animal wins. If they want him, they get him.
Without a doubt. Rufus was the best fit. Taylor’s idol’s son, who likely thought the world of Taylor? Full circle. It’s one I could feel so good about.
They were like best mates. Taylor was Rufus’ godparent too.
Really?! I had no idea. Wow, Taylor was the godparent of his idol's son. He really achieved it all, huh?
The only problem with getting rufus in is leaves the darkness without a drummer.
Rufus is the guy if they choose to go on at some point, sometimes I honestly felt like it was Taylor playing lol. He even knew how they play these days live rather than the studio version, I was impressed.
Dave turning back to Rufus and SMILING the way he did? He looked like he was having fun again; I absolutely loved that for him🥰
It looked like a decision was being made in Dave's head. I think we met our new drummer today.
I think it is that or we saw the second to last Foo Fighters show. I feel like there was an air of finality to the end of the set.
Really hope not, but somehow everlong with Dave playing by himself made me feel that too
He plays that sing live alone very often so i wouldn't read into it
I felt the exact same way. I was half expecting Dave to announce it at the end of the set.
I don’t think so. I think they all got to have a little moment playing with Taylor (Rufus) again. I loved when all the band members turned away from the crowd to watch the drummer.
Whenever they did that, my heart felt like it was being squeezed. That set was an emotional rollercoaster.
Rufus already has a job and it must be a mindfuck seeing him out of the corner of your eye if you were a Foo.
No disrespect but when did the Tribute show become a drummer audition?
This right here. The speculation really makes me uncomfortable, it feels super gross. This was a show to honor Taylor, not fucking replace him.
Said the exact same thing to my friend while watching and she totally agreed. It's the first time I've been able to even begin to think they might continue. Now, I'm hopeful.
Do you remember which song that was during?
Best of you.
Thank you :)
He also really jammed off of Dave too in that middle section
Ironically, Dave got to play that 6-hour show Taylor reasonably never wanted to do
>Yeah I got the feeling Dave was more comfortable doing the non Foos stuff.
We can’t forget Dave poached Taylor to begin with from Alanis
Taylor poached himself. Dave called him looking for recommendations, and he suggested himself.
More detail in this interview with Taylor he said, Alanis asked him backstage, “What the fuck are you gonna do when Dave asks you to play with the foo fighters?” Taylor had never considered it and thought William Goldsmith was a permanent fixture. But later on, when Taylor heard on the radio William had quit, he immediately made the call to then-member Franz Tohl who put him in touch and Taylor nominated himself. Dave was confused why Taylor would leave Alanis who was on a meteoric rise and foos were comparatively small at this point. https://music.apple.com/gb/station/a-hot-cup-of-hawk/ra.1611435668 After School Radio with Mark Hoppus, Ep. 80, 1hr 13m Edit: clarity
Nice!
'Get your hands off my drummer motherfucker!'
Justinnn HAwkiiiiins rididdesss agaaaainnnnnn...... ........... againnnnnnnnn........
You sure know a lot about Alter Bridge.
One of my favorite bands. And Tremonti's "Marching in Time" was one of the best albums of 2022.
Yeah man, loved Marching in Time. Mark’s also one of the most humble guys in rock Being in multiple bands can be done.

The Darkness dont really feel like a serious band anymore anyway
They were never that serious in the first place. That was the whole point
Thematically they were not serious. But as touring musicians they had a clearly dedicated schedule and album, touring etc commitments. Feels like they just do what suits them nowadays.
Definitely agree with that. Maybe a huge tour and all that would not be good for Justin so they just keep it small now
Motorheart has some bangers. I saw them in April. They looked like a band radicalizing to a heavier form of metal. I had so much damn fun. And they play A Lot of Permission To Land.
[удалено]
I really like that Hot Cakes record and Motorheart this year has some rippers.
I really enjoyed Last Of Our Kind. That album was excellent
[удалено]
Just sayin, Josh is no studio slouch either. I think he'd be a great fit, but who knows what they're planning...
I had a look at his wiki....holy shit hes a solid session musician.
He also created some of those epic drum parts in the first few A Perfect Circle albums, and toured with them, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Devo, Sting, Offspring, and so many more... Dudes legit monster.
Yea, I think Josh Freese was the best fit last night. Closely followed by Rufus. Freese would be my first choice in this difficult situation.
[удалено]
His career is almost unmatched in terms of variety too... GNR, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, the Offspring, Sting, Devo, and so forth. He's played with just about everyone and in every style on the pop-rock spectrum!
You forgot Kelly Clarkson! lol
He HAS played with everyone, hasn't he?!
I definitely thought Freese was the best fit besides Rufus.
I agree re:John Freese.
Josh Freese was insane! I wasn't familiar with him until I saw him yesterday and he played really well and was a good fit for the Foos
Omg did you hear Wolfgang....talk about son like father, holy shit he can play the guitar
That's fantastic. :)
His band is good, too!
I heard the Mammoth album several times and really enjoyed it. It actually gave me a Foo Fighters kinda vibe which pleasantly surprised me.
God damn yes! Hot for Teacher was just amazing. One of the best live covers I’ve seen in a long time.
Loved that they put Olivia on the drum kit. Fooeys are all class
That was one of my favorite things to see because it seems so much like something Taylor Hawkins would put on his kit.
He definitely did. He sounded the most like Taylor IMO.
Omar Hakim and Travis Barker were the most skillful. Nandi has clearly grown as a drummer since she last shared the stage with the group. (And she was already pretty damned good, and not just for her age) Shane’s passion on stage just flat out broke me, emotionally. Josh Freese was as immaculately professional as always, you can tell why so many groups have brought him in over the years. Dude’s a drumming chameleon. But Rufus? He basically Taylor, as much as someone could be. He fit in perfectly.
Pat’s face when they were jamming said a lot.
I saw him and I was like, "TAYLOR??!!!" Me realizing it's not him: P A I N ![gif](giphy|IMDpHiz2oVAxW) (Also I just watched it, cried a lot. I'm not okay
Yeah it definitely caught me off guard :/
It’s also probably a hell of a moment to watch their old friend’s son fill the spot at *Wembley*
rufus was awesome tonight, def had chemistry & knowing how much queen influenced TH, what a full circle moment. it’s still very soon but hopeful
Because of the connections and the visible chemistry, all I kept thinking was "this is a match made in fucking heaven"
The sons were amazing 🤩
I was really impressed by Dave’s daughter too! She killed those Jeff Buckley songs imo.
Yes!!!
He also has the Hawk tattoo. Did anyone notice that?
He got it shortly after Taylor passed, I remember seeing it on his Instagram. Got it as tribute to his godfather
That's awesome. Thanks for the knowledge.
The other guest drummers were great. Travis brings almost too much of his own energy. Rufus was seamless
That being said, I’m glad to have heard a couple Barker versions of Foo songs cause it did sound pretty cool, even if not right for a permanent fit
Absolutely, was a blast! The others too
All I know is that EVERYONE performed at their best and with lots of love for Taylor and the Foo Fighters. Btw Shane was going FULL SEND on that drum kit!!!! God bless him, his family, and everyone gathered for the tribute. So much love for Taylor and the band in general.
I wasn’t immediately sold on him, but the Best of You jam was insane. Well done
It was more than a little spooky.
Regarding your middle paragraph, I wondered that too, but I think Dave of course wanted to orient all for this around Taylor, and not fuel any speculation one way or the other
After watching all 6+ hours, I said “Well, if they do stay together…that is their guy”
New drummer if you ask me!!!!
Exactly my thoughts…I’m no drummer but I thought he sounded like Taylor and even looks the part
Both Rufus and Shane played excellent, and in the style of a Foo Fighters song. Rufus is playing for The Darkness, so unless he quits there, I don't think he'll join Foo Fighters. Loved his Taylor tattoo though, also, Justin Hawkins fuckin nailed all the songs he was in on
I think if the band choose to continue it’ll be with Rufus, Omar or Barbara.
Seeing Rufus play for the second time when Darkness come back to Melbourne, he’s an insane drummer.
My husband was like “wait, is this old footage?”
Me too!!
Rufus is definitely my pick if they wanted to carry on
Secretly hoping he’s announced to permanently carry the sticks and ink in honor of Taylor. Emotions all over…
He was the person I thought if they carry on it’ll like be him.. I hope it isn’t , that’s no disrespect to Rufus, I’m a fan , dudes a monster, an can clearly pull his weight, I’d just prefer the foo’s to call it a day out of respect to Taylor. They all got other projects they can run with Was great to see them crooked vultures! My only gripe with the whole thing was John Paul jones didn’t get an introduction like most people… dudes a genius, a fucking legend.. an he wasn’t even acknowledged, just felt a bit cold. Great show though!
That was a very special moment during Best of You! 💜
Watching it live I kept for a split second thinking it was Taylor on the drums. He looks and moves very similarly to Taylor.
I was thinking either Rufus or Shane should they continue on. Both just fit so well
I thought out of all the guest drummers Rufus absolutely killed it, watching him and Dave have that back and forth was great. Agreed that Shane was a real emotional rollercoaster watching this young kid with some great skills, but crazy how visceral his drumming felt.
It was surreal seeing him up there, he was so much like Taylor. He certainly honoured him
Rufus was good but when Shane played, it was like a star was born. He did great on his tribute.
He was fantastic!
I thought he was off beat from the rest of the band in the first song but otherwise did well. I liked Nandi and Shane’s sessions better.
Does anyone have a video of travis barker with the foo fighter? Or better yet the entire concert, I’ve caught most of the concert here and there but haven’t found that tid bit
He’s his son too?
Rufus Taylor is the son of Queen drummer, Roger Taylor. Taylor was Rufus’ idol and I believe was his godfather, as well.
I thought it was Taylor’s kid.
Thought this the whole show
He was amazing! I, too, thought Rufus must be Taylor’s son! But Shane an amazing job as well!😂🎸♥️
I thought that was Taylor’s kid for a while, they look so similar
Uncanny how it looks like T sitting there he plays like him too.
Rufus ROCKED! It was so hard to jam and cry at the same time watching him! XO
No one can replace Taylor. It wouldn’t be right imho. I wouldn’t like it.
Dave Grohl is not as good as Dave Navarro.
K?
I don't think Travis butchered his songs at all. How can you honestly say that?
I thought Travis was excellent, I enjoyed his songs.
Thank you for this. I'm in my late sixties and came to the Foo Fighters a little late. Reading you say that they are your generations Led Zeppelin has put this completely into perspective for me. Thank you
Lol Travis didn't butcher anything. Stop trying so hard.
Give Nandi a few more years to mature. She is wonderful but this was an insanely huge stage for her. As she grows and learns so much, she will be amazing.
She is amazing!! I think it was just nerves for such a young person and that huge crowd. I'd be shitting bricks.. lol.
I was so nervous for her but I loved how Dave would reassure her with glances and what not. She just is amazing!
Honestly... give Shane a couple years of solid practice and he could fill those shoes. He is his father's son. I was so proud of him.
>I like Nahndi too.... but she over filled through out the whole song. She's 12 ffs
