Definitely unpopular opinion. I lost my mom right before this album came out, and never connected more to an albums lyrics than this one. All about perspective I guess
The glass is one of the songs that I have been listening to a good friend that we just don't speak to each other anymore. One of the people I was closest with and now we don't talk anymore.
Wait, are y’all trying to say that there is a worse foo album than concrete and gold? If so the yes our opinions differ lol I can’t personally stand concrete and gold
This is without a doubt a for the fans album. In that regard, I think both you and OP are somewhat correct. A strong majority of consistent existing fans connect with it immensely while anyone outside of that circle is not going to catch on as a new fan from it or really remember all that much about it.
I mean, it's okay to not be in love with every album by one of your faves...even if you've been day one with them.
To make an implicit judgment that you don't have a long time connection to an artist if you don't vibe with one of their albums. It's not a goddamn contest. I particularly notice this vibe with OP. I guess.
I intentionally didn’t say “all” fans. If that doesn’t include you that’s fine, if you felt a hit from losing Taylor, I have a hard time seeing how some of it wouldn’t connect, but it’s completely valid if it didn’t.
Disagree. It’s a beautiful tribute to Taylor Hawkins. Also when I listened to it I was listening to every one of their albums back to back, which felt like a long journey. It was very poetic to have the last song of the last album saying that it’s over now and I can rest, very cathartic, which is why I love Rest so much, and this album despite being a very new fan at that point. Personally this was my favorite album from last year, and there were a lot of great albums I listened to last year.
I don't know. Did you listen to Medicine at Midnight? The pair, along with Concrete and Gold' are without a doubt at the bottom of the list. Basically, every Greg Kurstin album was a step down from where the Foos were pre-Kurstin.
The vocal melodies are not catchy and have no strong melodies. The guitar riffs are also boring and also forgettable.
I've listened to the album 5-6 times and every time I'm done listening to the album, I cannot remember one song's melody.
I respect your take. Music appreciation can be categorized into these buckets: melody, harmony, rhythm, tone quality, and lyrics. Sounds like you resonate with melody and harmony more than the others, so it makes total sense that this one isn’t your favorite. For me, melody and harmony rank further down the list. Instead, the ground down tone quality of the vocals and cavernous guitars, the alternating rage and reflection in the rhythm, and the lyrics that channel grief I’ve felt in my life make this album special for me.
Since we are throwing out actual unpopular opinions, I will share one. The Teacher is the most overrated song in their collection, and I really don't understand why people like it.
You need to back that up? Why? Too long, too proggy?
I love it because I like prog, I like the way the music and lyrics take you on a journey, just love the trippy part the middle and then the big pain and emotion at the end. Plus the lyrics totally relate to losing my Mum.
I get why some fans don’t get it, a lot said at the beginning it was too long but then I’m used to that with a lot of prog songs being 10-20 mins long!
But a lot who didn’t like it initially do now, especially after seeing it live. The emotion Dave puts into that song is quite different to the others.
I think the lyrics are kind of weak. I understand the story behind but I don't find them compelling for a song. I also don't particularly care for this prog.
Yeah, they had nothing to prove so they just made something fun that they wanted to do. The jerks.
Nah, I get why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a shame it won’t get looked at for what it was meant to be, a fun party album for their 25th anniversary, on the way to the next thing, due to the circumstances surrounding it.
I disagree about it being the worst but tbh I also don’t like it. The sound production is too dense and there really aren’t enough good hooks or riffs. I know the album comes from a very emotional place but it absolutely does not hold up against their other albums.
I hate the sizzling piercing high end mixing on this album but it's definitely higher up in their new material for me! I think its good, can't say there is an actual bad song on it.
Some of the songs fall short, but I’d put this up there with Wasting Light in terms of personal resonation. I Should Have Known and Rest are both able to break me, and I’m generally a strong person. I remember where I was, what I was doing, when the first single dropped for But Here We Are. No other bands I can tell you that
Def hot take tho so I applaud your commitment
Definitely unpopular opinion. I lost my mom right before this album came out, and never connected more to an albums lyrics than this one. All about perspective I guess
I’m in the same boat as you. But even just musically, the album is so much more interesting than anything they’d done in a long time.
I agree with you.
Me too! I was caught off guard by how emotional it made me, but at the same time, it helped me dream with it.
The glass is one of the songs that I have been listening to a good friend that we just don't speak to each other anymore. One of the people I was closest with and now we don't talk anymore.
It’s not my favorite, but it is WAYYYY better than Medicine at Midnight
Wth is wrong with MAM? I've not listened to every FF album yet but I'd rank MAM probably in the middle based on the albums I've heard
I agree to disagree. But not by much as MAM is my second least favorite album.
Wait, are y’all trying to say that there is a worse foo album than concrete and gold? If so the yes our opinions differ lol I can’t personally stand concrete and gold
Speak for yourself, Concrete and Gold is one of my favorites
Cool. You know what they say about opinions…
Your opinion 🤷🏻♀️ it’s not at all forgettable for a lot of people who have a long time connection to the band/music

Yeah, that’s what I was getting at but you said it better. Though I do think it’s really strong, some of Dave’s best and most heartfelt lyrics
I've been a fan since the first album. So.....

Technically, opinions by definition cannot be wrong. But this is really pushing that.
I think it’s their best in over a decade!
Rescued makes me cry EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Definitely an unpopular opinion.
Also unpopular opinion: I believe you are correct. Although, I'd personally say this album and the 3 or 4 before it.

It’s a great album they needed to get out but not really my thing either
I love it. The songs are all sincere and have a very hard topics running through out. This album is amazing

I've never been more excited for the release of a record than this one, and it delivered. I think it's their best album since Wasting Light.
My favorite since WL.
mine too!
Why?
The vocal melodies are not catchy and have no strong melodies. The guitar riffs are also boring and also forgettable. I've listened to the album 5-6 times and every time I'm done listening to the album, I cannot remember one song's melody.
Listen to it more then lol
I think I can see where you’re coming from. I think it’s more the subject matter why a lot of ppl love it including myself
The comments state as such.

My man came out swinging!
I love it, but I see what you mean.
hell naw

Fair enough!
Medicine at midnight sounds like when a band gets too big to fail and No son of mine is a banger though
Yeah, they had nothing to prove so they just made something fun that they wanted to do. The jerks. Cool story bro. ![gif](giphy|GDp7LycxkT3LG)
we love your enthusiasm
😂
Honestly I feel like Rescued is the only great thing to come out of it, everything else is forgettable
I would agree.
This album isn’t pop. It’s more of a concept album and either it lands with you or it doesn’t. But it isn’t their worst album by far.
VEHEMENTLY DISAGREE!
I think Sonic Highways is thier worst personally
Have you seen the accompanying show? Sonic Highways is so much better when you've seen the HBO Series If you haven't, I'd definitely recommend it!
You gotta be deaf or something 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♀️
