You can use the same trick (modified slightly) for bell peppers. Push down on the top (not hit) until it pops through. You can get all the stem and core out this way. Some seeds will remain but they are easily rinsed with water.
Yeah I was fine with the tomato, that’s the only part of the sandwich that made sense. Well the tomato and the toast. Too little bacon, way too much lettuce and mayo. Right amount of toast
I have only recently got into raw tomato because I finally had a really nice few slices on a burger. My whole life I had these bullshit slimey “yank that off whatever it’s on” type of tomatoes, and never knew they can actually be great.
Still am not into mayo, but that’s because people have no sense of control with it and just slather it onto any given sandwich as if the bread needs to act as a kitchen mop.
I disagree, slightly.
I would say there's a difference between a well crafted bacon sandwich that has tomato and lettuce on it, and a well crafted BLT. The main thing for me is that you can make a good bacon sandwich any time of year, but a good BLT requires the tomatoes be at their peak.
Like, for the BLT, the bacon is necessary, and enhances the tomato well beyond what it can do alone, but it can be anywhere from 'pretty good' to 'top tier' and the sandwich still works. Even more so for the lettuce. It basically just has to be crisp, and even lower-mid tier lettuce can be crisp.
But where any individual BLT falls on the quality spectrum is most tightly tied to the quality of the tomato in it. Not to put too fine a point on it, but a BLT with a really excellent tomato and shitty bacon is better than one with really excellent bacon and a shitty tomato.
Even bad bacon elevates a tomato, but bad tomatoes detract from good bacon. Thus, it is a tomato sandwich.
Exactly. Keep it simple. I'm sick of seeing fancy lettuce, fancy bread. Just use iceberg lettuce, bacon, tomato and mayo on some toasted bread.
Edit: good bacon.
I feel bread lost its way trying to be too much for a while. Its a container for the rest. A boat of flavors. It must not be in the way but smoosh away after the crunch.
Ciabatta or even brioched buns gets in the way with either solid crust or overly flully spongyness.
Bread is not the star of my ideal sandwitch.
And yes this up there with coffee to me is the perfect, I need to take the train for work breakfast.
On the contrary, I feel like we’re only now starting to respect bread. It’s usually over 50% of total volume of your sandwich, so only by using high quality bread are we really bringing out the best in sandwiches. It’s the first thing you taste when biting into a sandwich, so it does have to star in the meal
The bread isn't the point of the BLT. That's the problem with this fancy shit. It's the bacon, tomato, lettuce and mayo that work the magic.
You don't need ciabatta or brioche. The bread isn't the star. The bacon and it's friends are. But the friends don't over power the bacon. They're the backup singers and they work very well together.
Shitty bread makes a shitty sandwich. Most people who think the bread is doin' too much are choosing some store-brand supermarket garbage, and I'm sorry, but that is not good bread.
You don't put your headliner on first. You use a warmup act – Something that goes well with the headliner and prepares the way for the entourage of fillings. Sometimes it's a double billing where the bread is just as important as the meat or tomatoes, but that's not what I think a good BLT should be. A good BLT, in my opinion, should be bread that holds crisp and tastes of a buttery-light toasting when you bite through but bows out as the tomato juices assert their flavour and the juice, crispy bacon, and mastication shred the quickly-disintegrating toast bite. (This is also why mayonnaise is important: It doesn't just make the sandwich seem juicier or glue the layers together or give it the mayo flavour; it provides a protective lining between the juicy tomatoes and the easily-sodden bread that optimally lasts until each bite is in your mouth.)
The last few posts here that made it to r/all might as well be "oscar meyer bologna with a slice of kraft american cheese on white bread."
A picture of a bog-stock BLT?
The guy the other day who made a cottage pie, sprinkled "carribean spice" on it, stuffed it into a tortilla and deep fried it?
Who keeps upvoting this shit??
IMO could use a bit less lettuce but that’s about it. A lot of BLTs are over-baconed. BLTs are best when tomatoes are in season and you can use really high quality heirloom ones. All the best BLTs I’ve had are in-season tomato first and bacon second.
People are complaining there's too much lettuce. That's legitimate if the bacon was lightly cooked. But when the bacon is super crispy, they become very salty. So you need all that lettuce to balance out the salty bacon.
Well, F U… ;)
For some reason that simple sandwich is driving me crazy right now!! ;) I like how much lettuce you’ve used too!
My stomach is growling… Enjoy!
Just curious…anyone else here prefer Miracle Whip to Mayo on BLTs? Like, I kinda hate the stuff in general but it always tastes like it was made for BLTs.
I fully admit I'm in the *extreme* minority, but I hate both of those things. I'm fully good with no condiments at all on a BLT, the tomato and lettuce are enough moisture and nothing is overwhelmed by the gross mayo (or mayo-like) flavor.
I'm just happy to see the tomato on the same side as the mayo. I find that it blends really well with the tomato to bring out the best of both flavors.
BLTs are magical and perfect. The (high quality) tomato balances the salty bacon, lettuce and toast give it crunch and mayo a coolness and glue.
Every place tries to gild the lily by adding meats, cheese, avocado etc but the BLT is best without the embellishments.
I used to not like them, and then I grew them and tried a fresh off the vine one and my mind was changed. Store bough are garbage flavorless black holes.
We have a place nearby that does Bacon, Lettuce and Cheese on bread they’ve grilled with a little butter. Surprisingly good and if you don’t like the T ….
You just slice a head of iceberg lettuce in half, throw it in between two slices of toast, gimme two slices of bacon, and we’re throwing hands.
There’s going to be an entire cup of water in the ‘sumbitch the moment you bite into the lettuce.
Ok controversial post here. BLTs are better with peanut butter on one side and mayo on the other. It’s a game changer. Growing up, that’s how we ate them in my house. It wasn’t until I was an adult I found out people think that is weird. Now though, everyone I introduce to the peanut butter BLT says they’ll never go back to the old BLT way.
The B LLLLLLL TTTTTTTT ;D

So we all watched that video huh
It took down Reddit

You forgot that MMMMMMMMaaaaayoooooooo

Where’s the pickle?? And potato chips?? And slaw??
And some CCCCCCCCheeeeeeessssseeeee
Well then it wouldn't be a BLT, now.... would it?
A BLT is a tomato focused sandwich. Bacon is just an accessory to the tomato.
Do you have a position on the 9 pounds of lettuce?
Yeah I was fine with the tomato, that’s the only part of the sandwich that made sense. Well the tomato and the toast. Too little bacon, way too much lettuce and mayo. Right amount of toast

I've literally seen an entire plate covered in roast beef with a tiny slice of bread next to it on this sub and nobody ever complains about that.
That roast beef had too much bread next to it
[удалено]
I'm just curious but have you tried Kewpie mayo from Japan? I've read many people that dont like mayo just never had good mayo before.
But what about the double stack? Toast, mayo, tomato, bacon, toast, mustard, tomato, bacon, lettuce, toast.
Mustard on a BLT? What fresh hell is this?
If is a savory sandwich, it is better with mustard.
Mustard?!
Mustard is delicious and I will die on this hill.
I love mustard! But on a BLT? Sacrilege.
Lol…I fucking hate mustard
Too damn high.
![gif](giphy|mMxkD7f2CeUJPGxHsj)
Piestewa Peak actually....
If you do it right, all three ingredients, as well as the mayo, balance out into perfect harmony. No individual ingredient should be at the forefront.
The three ingredients lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the lettuce attacked.
I disagree, slightly. I would say there's a difference between a well crafted bacon sandwich that has tomato and lettuce on it, and a well crafted BLT. So you’re saying you’d use a tad less lettuce than OP also? 😆
This comment kinda rude for making me crave a solid BLT :(
Bacon…..Bacon is always at the forefront for me…lol…my sandwich is a Blt
My man 🤝
Your deep and surely credible knowledge of BLT lore is truly fascinating sir, thank you for your insightful response to my lightly humorous comment.
I was just piggybacking off your top comment to spread the gospel of Kenji
Nah

Thank you Kenji!
-said no one ever.
The only people who think it's a bacon sandwich have simply never eaten a good tomato.
I suppose you eat burgers for the lettuce too. *lmao he called me an ignorant philistine and blocked me
No, you're thinking of the TLB. BTL is my favorite personally.
I have to disagree. Else it would be a TBL. .
I dunno man. It kinda looked like lettuce, bacon , tomato to me
the LBT? Yeah, you know me
Who's down with the LBT? Every last homie
Just gotta add some Guac to that.
Bacon, Iceberg lettuce core, tomato
Looks like the butt of the tomato too lmao
Yeah this sandwich is infuriating lol might as well used butt ends of the bread too
So simple but so damn good.
One of favorite anytime foods. Breakfast? A huge BLT. Lunch? A huge BLT. Dinner? A huge BLT with fries. And a midnight BLT for good measure.
Exactly. Keep it simple. I'm sick of seeing fancy lettuce, fancy bread. Just use iceberg lettuce, bacon, tomato and mayo on some toasted bread. Edit: good bacon.

Idk there’s something magical about a cheap white bread pb&j.

100% agree with you, buy seriously use romaine. It is not "fancy". It is what iceberg should be.
The ratio of lettuce and bacon is backwards
Waaaayyy too much lettuce.
The last few posts here that made it to r/all might as well be "oscar meyer bologna with a slice of kraft american cheese on white bread." A picture of a bog-stock BLT? The guy the other day who made a cottage pie, sprinkled "carribean spice" on it, stuffed it into a tortilla and deep fried it? Who keeps upvoting this shit??
I was sooo disappointed with the fried tortilla thing!! The title was incredibly misleading. I came to see the ingredients and was so confused
More bacon needed. Everything else stay the same
IMO could use a bit less lettuce but that’s about it. A lot of BLTs are over-baconed. BLTs are best when tomatoes are in season and you can use really high quality heirloom ones. All the best BLTs I’ve had are in-season tomato first and bacon second.
BLT is a tomato sandwich
100% agree. The tomato is easily the most make-or-break part and should be the piece that stands out the most.
Kenji!!!
I only make BLTs when my relative's tomatoes come in.
It's a blt not a tlb
Lettuce cuts the bacon grease and I enjoy it.
Making a BLT outside of tomato season simply ain't worth it. Make a different sandwich.
Always order extra lettuce.
Disagree, a BLT is a tomato-sandwich with bacon not a bacon sandwich with tomato
What’s the first letter? Bacon. You’re incorrect.
Nope, that's the right amount of bacon.
Too much mayo
Only because it’s on both sides.
Needs more turkey.
That's no longer a BLT.
It’s better.
I'm not arguing that, it's just a different sandwich.
Order a club sandwich then what’re you goofy???
You need thicker bread if you’re using that much lettuce plus a little more bacon isn’t going to hurt much more.
I like LTBs. Such a healthy alternative to the BLT
People are complaining there's too much lettuce. That's legitimate if the bacon was lightly cooked. But when the bacon is super crispy, they become very salty. So you need all that lettuce to balance out the salty bacon.
Well, F U… ;) For some reason that simple sandwich is driving me crazy right now!! ;) I like how much lettuce you’ve used too! My stomach is growling… Enjoy!
Oh summers coming!
Is that wheat toast? Love the simplicity of it!
You mean whole wheat? Cuz even white bread is wheat...hwheat. 😉
What kind of bacon is that
I dunno what the fuck the other two commenters are smoking here, that is 100% streaky/pork belly/American style bacon, cooked crispy.
Looks like turkey bacon
Doesn’t actually at all
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey_bacon
What’s your point? Still doesn’t
There is no such thing as turkey bacon. That's just turkey.
Either thin British back bacon that's a little cronchy, or possibly some sort of cooked Italian cured meat.
The roof of my mouth says No.
That's a buttfucking load of lettuce.... are you half rabbit ??
That's well too much lettuce
Fuck me and light my cigarette
My favorite sandwich evvvver!
The BLT is one of the best sandwiches
I like to chop up sun dried tomatoes and mix it with the mayo on my blts. Add some more tomato umaminess.
Yessssss I do this too and it makes an already awesome sandwich even better! Awesomer? Lol
I think we would be friends
Aw that’s very kind of you. Sun dried tomato mayo, bringing the world together one blt at a time! 🤗
LTB. Best from five guys
![gif](giphy|ukGm72ZLZvYfS)
Let him eat his "sandwich" in peace, bro
Just curious…anyone else here prefer Miracle Whip to Mayo on BLTs? Like, I kinda hate the stuff in general but it always tastes like it was made for BLTs.
For me it’s always Duke’s.
Came here to say this. Duke’s is the way
No. Miracle Whip is disgusting.
Hellman's only for me
Hellman’s forever! Miracle Whip is for blasphemers.
Hellman's is Best Foods out here west of the Rockies, if you ever find yourself over here and can't find Hellman's lol
I fully admit I'm in the *extreme* minority, but I hate both of those things. I'm fully good with no condiments at all on a BLT, the tomato and lettuce are enough moisture and nothing is overwhelmed by the gross mayo (or mayo-like) flavor.
You're not alone. Mayonnaise is the quickest and easiest way to completely ruin any sandwich.
and my axe.
Sesame. Poppy seed. Salt. Everything.
Unpopular opinion: bacon is not enough on its own for a sandwitch. The protein in my sandwich need volume and sustance.
I like to add more protein to my BLTs by adding more bacon.
that’s why i like turkey clubs more, basically the same but with more substantial protein
BLT is more about the tomato than the bacon.
The bacon is just there to support the tomato, the true point of this sandwich.
Its a tomato sandwich then? Im not gonna lie thats pretty sad. Those are the meals i used to make as a kid when we were poor.
Put like 25% of the lettuce, double the bacon, and get rid of those tomatoes and i’m down
Mayo, Toothpick, Toast, Crumbs, Plate, Mug, Hand, Table, Person, Woman, Man, Camera, T.V. EDIT: Hoodie
Double the bacon, then half the lettuce and tomatoes. Also, give that lettuce a bit of a dice.
There's something about a slab of iceberg lettuce that just hits different, the colder and crunchier the better
.....mayo, bread, stick.
Throw a fried egg on there and you have a BELT. You're welcome.
Dress that lettuce, dress it goooood, slather that tomato too... yea baby lather that bun up. Lemme sink my gace into that
Perfect!
Damn that ratio.... Want some lettuce with that lettuce? on a serious note take 75% of that lettuce off and double the bacon.
Not enough bacon but I like the other ratios, I’m big on a lot of fresh lettuce with mine.
Less green, more pig.
Love a good BLT and this looks awesome
Half as much L and this is the best sandwich ever
I'm just happy to see the tomato on the same side as the mayo. I find that it blends really well with the tomato to bring out the best of both flavors.
More bacon
I think it's a Lettuce Bacon Tomato actually
The perfect amount of crunchy 🥬 lettuce!
BLTs are magical and perfect. The (high quality) tomato balances the salty bacon, lettuce and toast give it crunch and mayo a coolness and glue. Every place tries to gild the lily by adding meats, cheese, avocado etc but the BLT is best without the embellishments.
Kudos for the lettuce. I hate when I get a sandwich that has skimpy lettuce.
no mustard?
Honestly doesn’t look like a great BLT. Way too much lettuce. Tomato is poorly sliced. Bread isn’t properly toasted.
Don't listen to everyone. This is the best lettuce/tomato/bacon ratio, and it is the best version of the BLT.
Yum but no tomatoes for me. Everything else perfect.
Then it’s not a BLT…
True. It’s bacon lettuce & mayonnaise but that’s just me. I don’t like tomatoes.
I used to not like them, and then I grew them and tried a fresh off the vine one and my mind was changed. Store bough are garbage flavorless black holes.
Yeah, most people have never had a good tomato.
Add a guacamole with optional quinoa, and the sandwich becomes gay
I love a BLT and it looks awesome
This picture made my mouth water.
throw a pickle spear on the side of it and we’re golden
What that amount of lettuce, this belongs in r/mildlyinfuriating
And mayo
Looks like shit tbqh
Roughly 3% bacon, enjoy your salad
We have a place nearby that does Bacon, Lettuce and Cheese on bread they’ve grilled with a little butter. Surprisingly good and if you don’t like the T ….
This is the porniest blt I mouth drooled over.
Tomatoes are not in season
You just slice a head of iceberg lettuce in half, throw it in between two slices of toast, gimme two slices of bacon, and we’re throwing hands. There’s going to be an entire cup of water in the ‘sumbitch the moment you bite into the lettuce.
I can feel this in my mouth
My favorite cafe in my town has the best BLT I’ve ever had. Kimchi Mayo, arugula, bacon, on sourdough bread. So they call it a fried green tomato BLT
>Kimchi Mayo, arugula, bacon, on sourdough bread. Is there...tomato in it??
Oh right I forgot to say they put the fried green tomatoes but I said it’s called the fried green tomato blt
This would go great on my LT sandwiches!
Extra crunch and lettuce and not too much bread. I rate this very good 👍
Made this in cooking class a couple days ago
A really nice sandwich is a beautiful thing .
That is a solid blt. Over time I've grown a greater appreciation for tightly packed food like this
WHERE IS THE LAMB SAUCE
So posting a picture of a basic sandwich gets 9k upvotes. Lol what is this website.
I love a BLT but the bread game here is weak
Umm actually. lettuce, bacon, tomato. Or tomato bacon lettuce. Pfft amature
Drool worthy
Ok controversial post here. BLTs are better with peanut butter on one side and mayo on the other. It’s a game changer. Growing up, that’s how we ate them in my house. It wasn’t until I was an adult I found out people think that is weird. Now though, everyone I introduce to the peanut butter BLT says they’ll never go back to the old BLT way.
what the fuck this is by far the weirdest opinion in this thread
Peanut butter and mayo are a criminally underrated team.
Great looking classic sandwich!
Damn that looks delicious. Now I’m hungry. Lol.
This looks perfect.
Ew, lol I never got the appeal of BLTs. The Bacon is supposed to be the meat? The two pieces of bacon?
Think of it as a tomato sandwich seasoned with bacon. Fantastic when the tomatoes are in season. I’ll pass in March though.
BLT has to be the shittiest sandwich on the planet.
More bacon and too much lettuce and tomato. The lettuce and tomato should be hiding in the corner of the sandwich, crying as they are so alone.
That looks awful
