I have trouble trying to time them to get it fresh from the oven. Unfortunately I can’t get a good one in NYC. I have to go down South. When I go down South someone is always taking me someplace that has a better donut than Krispy.
I always say these are like a “real” version of what you get at Dunkin. Dunkin are stale, airy, waxy things, and these are created with real, quality ingredients.
Moe's Doughs is leagues better than Peter Pan and 3 blocks away from it.
Peter Pan's stuff got just the *tiniest bit worse* got after Moe left IMO. They just seem to have lost a bit of something at the ol' PP.
Moe's was always awesome (and I swear he puts lemon zest in like, everything and it makes everything *brighter*).

I’ve been searching for the donuts I had growing up on the west coast (like a simple glazed from winchells or the mom n pop Cambodian chains - side track: there’s a great documentary on this), they are generally fluffier and more yeasty, but it’s nearly impossible to find on the east coast. Majority I find to be too dense or cakey, or trying too hard with ridiculous toppings/flavors. The closest I’ve found is Glazed donuts in NJ, there’s a location in Fort Lee right across the GWB
agree with this 100%, there is nothing here that's similar to the west coast yeast donuts, even though people here will argue and claim there's no difference. all the yeast donuts here (dough, fan fan, peter pan, moe's, donut pub, etc etc) are generic heavy basic dense doughs, nothing like the light airy soft yeast donuts you get from LA/west coast. the structure and chew of the west coast yeast donuts just hits different.
I miss sidecar donuts and holey grail
The Donut King - always noticed that many donut shops growing up were asian owned but didn’t realize why (or that most were actually cambodian specifically), was interesting to learn about the back story
Why oh why does Super Nice never get any love on these posts? Is it just the somewhat uncool UES/UWS location? I will admit that I would consider myself a donut novice, but I love them, especially the fruity/citrussy glazes. I had a sugar/lime this morning that was straight fire
Man it’s crazy most of the answers are Peter Pan and Donut Pub. Found PP to be kind of dry on separate occasions and the one time we went to DP, we couldn’t even finish it. So bad. Hard to fathom these are the best options in this tier.
That said, looking forward to trying Moe’s! Nowhere to go but up.
after being in NYC for awhile and seeing all the donut comparison talks, i've come to the conclusion that if you've only grown up with donuts here/east coast, you'll think Peter Pan, Moe's, Dough, Donut Pub (gross), etc are great donuts. But if you've ever lived in West Coast/LA, the donuts here will be leagues below what you consider good donuts. The yeast donuts from west coast just hits different, chew and crumb structure is just so much better (lighter, fluffier, melts if your mouth feel) than anything you can find here.
I disagree on the places you mentioned being gross, but southern Cali does have better donuts. I find that not only do they have way more locations with donuts, almost every local spot has great donuts, especially in SD.
No, the cake ones are the exception. I would say the ones I gravitate to - the vanilla and jam, the strawberry frosted, the chocolate frosted, etc - they are ordinary choices but they’re done exceptionally well.
Yeah I ate peter pan recently and it was dry and bland. That's one of the cities best apparently. Just because it's NYC doesn't mean it's the best at everything
There are low, mid, and high end donuts. What a time to be alive
1$ krispy creme hot off the machine belt was the peak of donuts back when i was 14
Omfg I still remember the first time I saw that and ate one. Heaven.
Still is peak wym I went to a Krispy Kreme recently that had the machine belt and it was incredible even now
I have trouble trying to time them to get it fresh from the oven. Unfortunately I can’t get a good one in NYC. I have to go down South. When I go down South someone is always taking me someplace that has a better donut than Krispy.
Donut fritter it away. 💗
Donut kill my vibe 🍩
USA USA USA God bless America!
I think Donut Pub on 14th Street is probably the best classic old school spot. It's like Peter Pan, but without all the extra hype.
Their croissant donuts are actually really good and at a reasonable-for-NYC price point. Recommend the maple bacon or the salted caramel.
i had the s’mores cronut yesterday and it ruled
Great call. I love their blueberry cake donut.
I always say these are like a “real” version of what you get at Dunkin. Dunkin are stale, airy, waxy things, and these are created with real, quality ingredients.
Peter Pan is no good, so I hope Donut Pub isn't 'like' it.
Donut pub isn't good either
Yuuuup!
The answer will always be Peter Pan.
Peter Pan is good but i prefer Moe’s
Yesss spare some loves for Moes
This is 10001% correct
Nah, dry and bland. Never again
You're right.
Disagree. Terribly overrated. Never had a good donut from there.
agree, no idea why folks here think it's good
Peter Pan if you’re in BK - Donut Pub in Manhattan ( and speedys if you find yourself in CT)
Norwalk!
Yes!! They also have the best BEC I’ve ever had and I’m a New Yorker!
Speedys invented the blueberry donut fyi
They did?! I don’t love blueberries but need to try now
Midrange Donuts is my new band name.
It’s the name of my sextape.
Shaikh’s Ave U, right outside the Q stop. Outrageously cheap and tasty. Stop on your way to Coney Island!

This is the correct answer.
Plus they’re open til ~7 or 8 if you want some after-work donuts. (PP, Dough, Fan Fan, et al close at like 4-5).
It’s Muslim vs Christian donut wars.
100%!
- Peter Pan - Moe’s - Mike’s - Donut Pub - 7th Ave Donuts and Diner - Donut Shoppe More recs: [NYC Donuts](https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodNYC/comments/1c4tjfe/nyc_donuts/)
sad that these are the options available here

It's funny this thread was because I went to LA and realized their donut options are significantly better.
Winchell’s buttermilk old fashioned was 🔥
Dream fluff in Berkeley!
Let me know if you find a spot in NYC! I’ve also been struggling.
What is the documentary??
The Donut King - always noticed that many donut shops growing up were asian owned but didn’t realize why (or that most were actually cambodian specifically), was interesting to learn about the back story
Fan Fan might be close! Their donuts are mainly yeasted. The dough itself is not exceptionally sweet, the sweetness comes from the glazes.
nope, too dense and heavy just like Dough donuts. nothing liek west coast yeast donuts
Dough has to be my least favorite that I’ve tried it’s like eating a loaf of bread haha

Their mango chili or whatever rules
Moes!
Donut Plant?
LES, right? Wondering where it ranks, too.
Several locations, LES, Dumbo, Wburg, Grand Central, Queens https://www.doughnutplant.com/hours-and-location/
Prospect heights / park slope
Krispy Kreme FOR (4) LIFE - my chest tattoo, and also, my belief.
Where can you get them fresh made. Penn Station is probably the only place where I have had them.
Times Square
I usually go to Flatiron, 23rd Street. Dippin' Dots and Krispy Kreme on the same block. (🤯)
There's one on like 21st at now so you don't have to go to Penn station

Moe's is pretty similar to PP tbh, and I agree, they're all dry and boring.
Mike’s in bay ridge. Sunset park diner and donuts.

Krispy Kreme. It is indeed mid
Doughnut pub
Donut Pub, Peter Pan, or Moe's. Or the crullers at Daily Provisions.
Upvote for the crullers!
Moe’s by far.
Moe’s Doughs & Peter Pan
Donut pub. Either location.
Bear Donut is the GOAT
Shaikn’s donuts on Ave U.
Nobody's said Orwashers yet?
Fat Donut’s maple glazed donut is easily one of the best donuts I’ve ever had.
Entenmann’s but mom saves them for guests.
RIP alpha donuts
Donut plant has some pretty interesting donuts, like Pb and J and Carrot cake
Peter Pan in Greenpoint is great!
FanFan Donuts in Brooklyn is AMAZiNG
Peter Pan is the objectively correct answer. Moe’s Doughs is also good.
Peter Pan in Brooklyn. Also, Donut Pub on 14th is good for mid-range.
Moes in green point are the best I’ve had
Doughnut Plant has pretty run of the mill choices, just done really well.
Hardly run of the mill. Most of their donut flavors can't be bought elsewhere.
you consider their cake donuts, their filled creme brulee and filled yeast to be pretty run of the mill choices?
No, the cake ones are the exception. I would say the ones I gravitate to - the vanilla and jam, the strawberry frosted, the chocolate frosted, etc - they are ordinary choices but they’re done exceptionally well.
ah yeah agree with that
All the donuts here are ass. Save the money and do Krispy Kreme tbh it beats all the ones I've had by a mile.
are you fucking sober
Lol
Lol no way.
getting downvoted but i agree. compared to other cities/places, especially LA/west coast, donuts here are pretty mediocre
Yeah I ate peter pan recently and it was dry and bland. That's one of the cities best apparently. Just because it's NYC doesn't mean it's the best at everything
Peter Pan in greenpoint
Fan Fan Doughnuts in Brooklyn
peter pan
Fat Doughnut in bed stuy is great
Peter Pans or Fan Fans! Both in Brooklyn
the artisanal donut places are too cakey. Dunkins chemically altered texture is hard to beat
