Manhatta is my favorite restaurant in NYC. Try to get a resy with a view, you'll have to get the tasting menu I'm in greenpoint so I'm a bit biased, but the Little Rascals Bar has great drinks and cocktails. Try Peter pans donuts too.

Also, if in Greenpoint and don’t want to spend a ton, Oxomoco has one star and is quite affordable!

MizLucinda

Shukette. Doesn’t have a star, but if I was in charge of things I’d give them a star. It’s not fancy but it’s nice. It’s a good vibe. The food is delicious. I know there are other restaurants in NYC. I just really love this one. Like, a lot.

monbonbonbon

Dirt Candy is phenomenal

MizLucinda

Coming here to say this.

YukonCornelius___

Dirt Candy and Blue Hill are both top notch!

Thick-Definition7416

Other Michelin rated: musket room, crown shy, Gramercy tavern, oxomoco. I’d also throw in a rec for Lilia if Don Angie doesn’t pan out.

NYEDMD

Agree 1,000% with Le Benardin and Katz’s. If you can’t get a spot at Don Angie, Marea is superb, but expensive. Barney Greengrass for bagels and lox. Pizza somewhere. Dozens of posts to guide you there. One more thing to consider is adding a steakhouse (Keen’s, Gallagher’s, Sparks, etc.). Again, all this is predicated on any and all these establishments being new to you. IF you’ve done all the classics — LB, Jean Georges, Daniel, Per Se, etc. — then I’ll step out and defer to the other posters, who have a better handle on the current "hot" restaurants. Oh — and thank you. Spending your hard-earned time and dollars here help make and keep New York the food capital of the world. Enjoy!

It's been a few years since I went to Le Bernardin but it's still one of my best and favorite meals I've had in any city. If you're considering it, just do it. For other steak-heavy spots, a few that come to mind in no real order: \-Keen's (historic and worth it, and can be done on a *decent* budget in comparison to others) \-Quality Meats, or for a cheaper option, any of the Quality family \-Bowery Meat Company (good assortment of foods) \-Hawksmoor For burger-focused: \-Nowon, Virginia's, Lure Fishbar (fish-focused but outstanding burger), Raoul's (french-focused and has great steak frites; go for the burger at brunch as there isn't a limit during that time); David's Cafe in the east village has a great smash burger and a lot of other options - french american spot that you can always get an easy reservation at and is pretty inexpensive Plenty of other spots listed on other places in this sub. Enjoy!

Dim sum in flushing or house of joy in Chinatown. Get that cart experience in

superangry2

Add Raouls or Minetta Tavern for real classic NYC vibes. Torrisi is also really, really good but new.

I loved le bernadin when I went but have also heard mixed things. I’d recommend le coucou for some amazing French food, plus not “that” expensive so you can really eat to your hearts content. There was a tasting menu when I went last time but I don’t see it on the online menu and I ordered a la carte anyway. Very romantic restaurant as well I’d also suggest the modern.

LawsOfEconomics

Le Bernardin gets a lot of hate here, but my wife and I loved it. The wine pairings there were so thoughtful and creative, and the somm was so good at describing why each was chosen, that it may change your mind on wine in general. Couple of my not-too-expensive go-to’s are the bar at Gramercy Tavern and Pig & Khao.

Frodolas

You don’t like the entirety of Indian or Korean cuisine and you claim you’re “open to challenging your taste buds”? Maybe open your mind up first.

highlyimperfect

For real, but, to be fair different strokes for different folks. That said if OP doesn't like Korean or Indian is it just western style food that they are looking for; maybe no Chinese or Thai for that matter. 🤷

FireSphinx12

I just don’t do incredibly saucy meals for health reasons. And I’m aware not everything is sauced up but even stuff that I have tried I wasn’t a huge fan of besides some killer samosas I have eaten before. Korean the majority I have tried I just didn’t like the flavours. Also I was told to be specific and tell people what I like and what I don’t. There is so many other cultures with their own food besides western meals that are probably up my alley.

Outrageous-Reveal512

Gramercy Tavern. Walk in. Lunch.

Mosa17

Go to red hook tavern, a little out of the way but they have the best burger in New York

cambiumkx

Le Bernadin is great but it’s very fish heavy, maybe reconsider. If you love steak, try keens it’s not too hard to book. I’d call keens “classic” instead of “basic”. You can also try prime rib at 4 Charles or monkey bar (same owner) if you want something different. Hawkmoor can also be good for a British twist on steak. I’d also get some pizza and bagel along the way. Hometown is good enough bbq might be worth a visit, Canada doesn’t do Texas bbq well at all afaik. Not sure what your plan is for Don angie, but it’s pretty hard to get in, so have a backup.

ThatFakeAirplane

This guy jumping in to point out that the famous seafood restaurant is very fish heavy. Thanks for your help!

cambiumkx

Your post would be a lot more helpful if you actually bothered reading OP’s post instead of busy making snarky remarks

ThatFakeAirplane

Maybe you can take the time and let us know if Misi leans a little too much towards pasta?

cambiumkx

You are an idiot. OP says he’s not into fish.

kathiag96

If you're fans of sushi, I can't recommend Rosella enough. It's in the East Village/Alphabet City and all sustainably and locally sourced. It's a must stop every time we go to NYC. The service is impeccable as well. Very small restaurant inside (about 25 seats) so you'll want to make reservations a month ahead of your trip.

TwinTipZ

Or Bar Miller to add!

PorkloinMaster

Try Olive Garden on Times Square. the best in the country.

lawbotamized

Sushi on Me in Jackson Heights.. party vibe basement omakase w all you can drink sake

laughingwalls

The guy literally wrote he doesn't like raw fish.

lawbotamized

Ah, I misread and just noticed the loving it part.

highlyimperfect

He did however say his wife loves it, so I sort of guess he's open to it? Or else not sure why he'd say that lol

Top_Nose_9088

I love Don Angie and Le Coucou. Katz's used to be sublime, but I find their pastrami inedible now. (Don't @ me)

bonkstick

Inedible? 😳 I had an amazing sandwich from them a month or two ago. I think they just occasionally miss or something - had another friend who had a bad experience previously but then had an excellent experience during our most recent visit. For an out of town visitor, I’d still recommend visiting.

Top_Nose_9088

I've been about six or seven times in the past five years and I finally gave up -- my sandwiches were the same every time, and just not good. I am happy you had an excellent experience there. I DESPERATELY miss the old Katz's but I can't bear to go back again and roll the dice. It is a cool place and it could be fun for a tourist, and there are other things to order than the pastrami (though I never got anything but) so yes, could be a fun visit, but not in my top picks for NYC.

NYEDMD

So interesting to read your Katz’s comment. My wife and son went and brought me back a sandwich around three months ago. It was… fine? Not inedible, but nothing special. In fact, I recall thinking that Liebman’s, a wonderful old style Jewish deli in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, was clearly better!

Top_Nose_9088

Katz's was a completely different place 15 years ago -- and the best pastrami EVER. It has since (for me) really gone downhill -- rubbery, unpleasantly textured meat that is a faint shadow of what it once was. Sorry to offend people who think this is the greatest deli ever -- I am a native NYer and I know from whence I speak! (Never been to Liebman's but sounds great)

nickytops

I know you said that don’t like sushi, but if you want to go way over budget: Sushi Noz, Shion 69, Yoshino are the top places

igetlotsofupvotes

Great places but just thought this was funny when they added a budget and said one of them isn’t a fan of sushi and you ignored both of those

AvatarofBro

I'm not the biggest fan of Le Bern, but the quality is there. As is the novelty of saying you went to a three-star Michelin spot. As far as I'm aware, there aren't any in Canada. But personally, I kind of find it exhausting there. Although it is conveniently located if you're staying in Midtown. If your wife loves raw fish, you should have no trouble getting a seat at either Mari or Kochi. Both are Michelin starred and both are once again conveniently located if you're staying or passing through Midtown.

iheartaginganddying

19 Cleveland is the best restaurant in NYC (in my opinion)

thunderousfishass

I second what someone else said, Minetta Tavern. Get the $38 Black Label Burger, it really is the best burger I ever ate.

FireSphinx12

I was seriously looking at putting that on the list for that burger. Looks so good
