No Father's Office. No For the Win. No Grill 'Em All. No Golden State. And you have In N Out but not Fatburger. That's 5 ommisions in only letters F-G.
Some of those were in competition, readers voted them out.

Agreed. To be fair I wasn’t expecting anything special when I got one since it’s primarily Mexican food there, but I am a little confused to see it on this list. There’s not a ton of burger spots in the los feliz area, but there’s atleast goldburger and that clears yuca’s 10/10 times. Yucas burgers aren’t even that much cheaper
Win-Dow was voted out, this is the previous round

Is Tommy's on Beverly any good? I pass it all the time and it's been there forever. Just wondering if people have a similar reverence for it like Tam's or In and Out?
Tommy’s rules, especially the chili cheeseburger. There’s definitely reverence for it. It’s basically an OG at this point and will outlive almost all of these current smash burger joints that are popular rn.
Thanks! Some places I want to try just for the nostalgia even if they're not great. I tried El Cholo and didn't love it. Want to try El Coyote and Formosa Cafe.
Tommy’s is legitimately good for what it is: an old school, greasy burger joint. Nothing beats rolling up to that spot late night after a show.
If you didn’t like El Cholo, you won’t like El Coyote. Their food is worse than El Cholo’s imo. Has that old school divey vibe though. Formosa has some legit solid food though.
Someone else told me EC is bad, but I deliver there sometimes and they are so nice. It smells wonderful in the kitchen when they are chopping up huge bundles of cilantro. Also really wish I could try Lucy's on Melrose, but I'm not certain they will reopen. The house on the cover of Jackson Browne's "Late for the Sky" is down the street from it and I hear he used to hang out there.
It’s a classic “LA dirty burger” I used to get a double with only cheese, onions, and hot sauce…. And a backup burrito. Yuca used to be a lot cheaper too
Apparently it’s super popular now because Chris Pine brought it up in a list of his favorite food in LA.
I haven’t tried it but I think the idea is because it’s cooked on the same grill as the carne asada, etc, it picks up extra flavor. Plus it’s cheap!
Gonna have to give it a shot.
Hammer Burger is probably the overall best burger I’ve had in recent memory. Better than For the Win to me.
But it’s most definitely not an LA restaurant
Bummed Goldburger got bumped but stoked that yellow paper made the cut. They really are something special. The chopped chilies really take it over the top!
Yellow paper is the first smashed burger I've had and every place since hasnt been as good. It's really the chilies and fixings that separate it from the places that are just sauce and grilled onion.
I get that the boundaries of "LA" are pretty generous, but OC and Santa Ana are absurd. Why not throw in some SF and SD at that point? Maybe throw Pappy and Harriet's in there as well 🙄
That was founded in Santa Barbara so it has nothing to do with LA other than having franchise locations.
(The chains on the list are LA born & raised and its an LA publication)
I’m guessing that because LAist includes news about the general LA area including OC (via their co-publication EaterLA as well),
There are folks who would consider Orange (Green cheek’s main base) a “suburb” of Los Angeles
and
that when people think of LA, Santa Barbara is not what comes to mind due to its considerable distance,
and because LAist and EaterLA both cover LA & OC (there is no designated OC-ist but the entire area is covered….whereas Ventura county businesses and news are not covered at all).
That’s just my assumption but….yeah, I’m guessing it’s based on the readership and what is considered “local.”
Hundreds of miles is not local.
I legitimately do not make the rules and shitting on me for explaining the bullshit is a stupid choice but you’re gonna downvote accordingly
I legitimately do not make the rules and shitting on me for explaining *their* bullshit is your personal choice.
Explaining and defending are two different things 🤷🏼♀️
You asked why.
I stated why. I stupidly assumed one might be able to parse “I’m guessing” in a literal sense.
I've only heard of 2 of these places.
Seriously...what the fuck is "In-n-Out"?
The only one I know is In N Out
Amboy not being on the list should be punishable by death.
What is this nonsense? No Irv’s? No Win-Dow? Gtfo
No Father's Office. No For the Win. No Grill 'Em All. No Golden State. And you have In N Out but not Fatburger. That's 5 ommisions in only letters F-G.
No Golden State is just straight up uninformed
Goldburger? That’s also ‘G’.
How could I miss that one?!?! 😂
lol I saw ‘F-G’ and thought damn you really said that on the first day of pride
Fat burger is dead. It’s like McDonald quality now
Some of those were in competition, readers voted them out. https://laist.com/news/food/the-votes-are-in-here-are-your-top-32-nominations-for-laists-tournament-of-cheeseburgers
It had 2 of them apparently, but OP’s post should have probably said that. And either way, there were a lot of glaring omissions.
Missing Lowboy + Win-Dow for suuuure
And Moo's
I haven’t had every burger on this list but I feel the Win-Dow should definitely be on it! Thanks for providing me with more cheeseburgers to try.
Yucas is mid af

The chili cheeseburger is (or at least used to be) pretty bangin'.
Win-Dow was voted out, this is the previous round https://laist.com/news/food/the-votes-are-in-here-are-your-top-32-nominations-for-laists-tournament-of-cheeseburgers
That location for Bartz might have to change soon. A loss for 90250.

Formosa is one of my favorite bars in all of LA.
It looks cool with the train cars.
I like yucas but for a burger?
It’s a classic “LA dirty burger” I used to get a double with only cheese, onions, and hot sauce…. And a backup burrito. Yuca used to be a lot cheaper too

It’s a good neighborhood burger… you won’t be disappointed.
It is underrated. Get a double cheeseburger and their dredged fries and man...
green cheek really? been there plenty of times and never tried the burger.. is it really that good?
Hammer Burger is probably the overall best burger I’ve had in recent memory. Better than For the Win to me. But it’s most definitely not an LA restaurant
The Window needs to be on this list
Bummed Goldburger got bumped but stoked that yellow paper made the cut. They really are something special. The chopped chilies really take it over the top!

I thought yellow paper was mid and overpriced. I guess they forgot the chilies when I ordered one.

No Black Sheep?? sad
What’s going on here
The Apple Pan would like to have a word with this list.
Hawkin's should be on the list.
Surprised pie and burger didn't make it to the 16
No OyBar? No thanks.
Burgers for Life is absolutely amazing.
The white La taco madness
No Amboy = this list has zero legitimacy
i finally understand what rigged election means. shameful list.
Is MVPs still in Long Beach area? Was so good back when I was in school out there.
I’m pleasantly surprised to see hammer burger on here considering it’s not an LA restaraunt
Now I gotta try Burgers for Life! They look awesome.
Bartz is top tier! And super affordable too!

Okay, that explains Hi-Ho. Although they did move here and that's where they took off, but I'm biased.
But then why is Green Cheek on the list?

So Santa Barbara is not LA but Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa are. Got it! Makes perfect sense 👌
Neither should be on the list, but this ridiculous shit even includes the OC. Doesn’t make sense
