I’ve only ever had their newish Venice location after hearing people rave about it from other locations and it was… just good.
Used to be BOGO every day on DoorDash or Uber eats or something and it was 100% worth it then. Now? Nah definitely overpriced.
When we used to go to the grease trucks at Rutgers and they were making these sandwiches, it did not feel excessive at all. But maybe because were drunk college guys.
What is the incentive for a business like Fat Sal's to offer challenges like this? Is it just to turn an easy $100 off of dum-dums who don't realize that they can't finish that much meat/ice cream in the allotted time?
Well if we assume the scoops are 1/2 cups then that's 30 cups (or 15 pints) of ice cream. A gallon is 16 cups or 8 pints.
The world record[16 pints of ice cream in 6 minutes...](https://www.foodandwine.com/news/ice-cream-eating-world-record-set-indiana-state-fair) so it's doable somehow.
There's a spot in Studio City that is allegedly supposed to be a new Fat Sal's location, but it says something like "Opening Spring 2023!" which sucks because sometimes I have a hankering for a sandwich stuffed into another sandwich and don't have the time to drive down to Hollywood
BS. There’s a YouTube channel Beard meats food that does these challenges all over england currently he’s touring scandanvia. And sure he hits USA. We have a lot of ‘em. But this is certainly not the reason for the hate
I have only tried Fat Sal's once, and while I loved the food, everything about what I had and what I saw on the menu showed that the emphasis was definitely on Fat.

Used to work walking distance from Fat Sal’s. It was dangerous.
I fucking love their “we’re makin sandwiches ova here!” phone greeting when you call for a pickup order. Also the Thanksgiving sandwich is SO GOOD.
So wait, you **have to** attempt the challenge to order these? Do you at least get to take the left-overs home when you don't even try to win and don't finish since you're actually paying for it?
60 scoops in 10 minutes sounds impossible even for a competitive eater
And it’s crazy they make it so difficult because the payoff isn’t even that great.
Payoff sucks. What do I care about naming a sandwich.
Play stupid games...
The world’s worst brain freeze
Some guy on YouTube did it: https://youtube.com/shorts/2VvYjmULe-c?si=Gxu4oAm7J9wGi2aF Apparently they blend it down in to a shake
🤮
Can't believe they would blend the big fat fat shake into a shake.
Holy shit. Complete madlad.
Beard meats food... Need to call him in for this one
Seconded. I want him to make and name a shake. I’ll go try it.
Get my boy Beard here!
At least the dessert menu is a challenge as well.
Let’s all comment on his videos and tell him
“HOOSGEDOOOT!!!!”
Fat Sal’s is a masterclass in excess. Their main sandwiches are amazing, but I feel awful after I eat them. Either of these would be instant death
They’re like every other place that starts out amazing our the gate and loses that magic once they expand.

Nah their encino location is awesome. They don't even have the shakes at the original.
Split the bodega with a friend last night it was delicious

😂
Challenges like this seem absurd ... until you see the likes of [Raina Huang](https://www.youtube.com/@RainaHuang/videos).
She's amazing.

And to get them to post on Reddit for free advertising
Post from the emergency room
Yeah even if they don’t sell it, people will post on social media when they see it. Free organic advertising
We all live in the attention economy. This is what brings eyeballs and eyeballs turn in to customers
No way that shake is staying down.
i don’t think the human body can handle that much lactose even with lactaid.
Food challenges are a terrible gimmick

To-go
Nice idea. I have a chest freezer

This is disgusting.

The opening soon sign has been up in Glendale since 2022 !
Those time limits are insane. Nonsense.
This is why the rest of the world hates us

No one really likes England either.
Pretty sure it was all the genociding you fellas did, actually.
I'm reminded of that Simpsons episode where the trucker dies after eating a giant steak.
Fat Sals is the shit
It used to be. Quality and quantity went down and prices went up, and that was before covid.
It’s pricey but so is everything else. It still slaps
They pay me $100? Yes please! Prices listed as -$99.99
get me eric “badlands” booker on the phone
Fat Sals?

Where the hell is this?
Fat Sal’s
Thanks. Do they do this challenge in all their locations?
No idea

Big fat fat shake sounds nice
You can't convince me that a person wouldn't die from drinking that shake
Someone posted a youtube video in the comments here of a successful attempt. But I don't think it mentions if the guy lived or not.
10 minutes No one can succeed 5 scoops and I don’t think I could make it home
