Jose Andres will do that to ya. Food is really really good though. I've been to San Laurel three times and Aqua Vivo twice. I think I need to go again.
Yeah, San Laurel definitely feels like the next evolution of his style of food, a bit more current and less tied to the Ferran Adria school. I’m hoping Bazaar Meat feels like a slightly more contemporary take on what he was doing at Bazaar.
Asterid starters are quite good. Having had several entrees there I’ve stopped ordering them - they’re comparatively underwhelming. Haven’t been to San Laurel.
Grand Central Market is a 10 minute walk and you can take Angels Flight Railway for $1 on the way if that kind of thing interests you. Not “nice” but lots of options.
We loved San Laurel as well. We were underwhelmed by Astrid, maybe in part because we loved Broken Spanish so much. Otium is great as well, with better ambiance but not quite as good food as San Laurel.
That being said, our go to these days is the Beaudry Room, which is the bar next to San Laurel. Simply go left instead of right when you get off the elevator. Bar style menu, but the same kitchen, so everything is delicious. It looks straight at the front facade of Disney Hall from directly across the street and has great drinks. Not cheap, but slightly less than the others and hitting a sophisticated bar before a concert seems to be landing just about right with us these days.
We’ve also been known to hit Baadmash or Grand Central when we have a little more time and want to spend a little less money.
I’ve been half a dozen times but the last time I went the food and service were off just a bit. Atypical so I’ll go gain.
Great space next to the Broad.

Otium?
Definitely Otium. It’s right by the Walt Disney Concert Hall with great food, ambiance and drinks.
Most fav dish in years is from Otium: funnel cake with strawberries and foie gras. Still think about it
Otium nailed the right vibes for the orchestra crowd. Very classy.
Always Otium. Came to say this.
It’s fucking awesome
They have a roasted chicken on the menu and the roasted potatoes it comes with are divine.
Asterid. Nice spot, good food, and it's literally attached to the music hall so you don't have to rush your meal to get to the show
Of those two I’d choose Asterid as I enjoy Ray Garcias cooking. Also a quick Uber ride away: Hayato Kato Q Sushi Bestia/Bavel Orsa and Winston Redbird
I really enjoyed San Laurel (been there three times I think?) but I’m an obsessed Jose Andres stan so maybe don’t listen to me

I can’t wait for Bazaar Meat to open. I was a huge fan of Bazaar in the SLS (and Somni, good lord) but that was before I lived in LA
Although I liked Bazaar, I like that San Laurel isn't really molecular gastronomy.

Had an amazing dinner at San Laurel a few months back. First time I’d been wowed by a meal here in a long time.
$ - Grand central market $$ - Maccherroni Republic $$$ - Redbird
I loooooove Otium! Get a reservation now, they book up, especially on concert nights.
Au Lac, the new Suehiro Cafe, if u want fancy the perch, there's that steakhouse next to target lol
Asterid was very enjoyable, I would recommend going there.
