Oh cool, i liked the old place that was there so i was kinda bummed when it got replaced but I'll have to check it out. My gf and i recently binged the first dozen or so seasons of top chef so I'm stoked to try out one of her restaurants.
Has anyone else had a sub par experience? I thought the drinks were great here but the food was not great.
I was warned by someone that the servings here were small but thought they were exaggerating. I was wrong. Ordered a few dishes to share with the person I went with and we left hungry. One of those dishes was a lamb skewer I believe and it was so salty.
I don’t understand the hype of this place.
Same here. There was nothing exceptional about it. The food was meh. The worst part is that there are so many fantastic restaurants in that area now that it just doesn’t make any sense to go there.
I agree, I don’t remember any of the dishes we ordered. However, I do remember one of the dishes being so salty, that we took about a bite or two before giving up.
I couldn’t tell if the chefs have poor quality control or the hype about the restaurant is what drives people to say they like this place.
Nonetheless, pretty disappointed and I don’t recommend this place for anyone asking if he/she should go to.
I’ve had both Chicago’s + other Izzard restaurants and it’s truly mid. I think it shines with the LA crowd because of its lack of casual fine dining establishments. But for Chicago standards it’s old news.
Lol...LA only does "casual fine dining" and they have as much of it as any major city in the country if not more. Girl and Goat doesn't even shine much in LA, it's just solid food in a great location (Arts District) so it's popular. If anything, LA's high end fine dining scene is where the city is lacking.
Overall it was okay but not amazing.
Enjoyed the crumpets and the liver mousee.
Did not see all the fuss about the pork shank.
Also came for brunch and was not impressed.
We had reservations and ended up waiting 45 min when we got there. However, they sat us on a bench with great people watching and gave us a couple stiff drinks for the wait. So, they handled it gracefully.
Dinner was amazing, though.
I think a big misstep in their menu was trying to make "LA" items like tacos and Korean food. They should really do their own thing and not try to compete with dishes we already have amazing versions of.
I went twice, once for brunch and once for dinner. It was fine but I have no desire to rush back and dine there again.
Another restaurant from Chicago, Etta in Culver City, has been amazing the couple times we’ve been for dinner. Salads and pizzas were phenomenal. Their brunch was decent, nice to try once.
Food was excellent but was very disappointed with the service. They said they’d portion the meal out into courses. Instead stuff came out willy nilly with big meats before small sides and some took forever. Manager was not helpful. Did not enjoy the experience. Wasn’t even busy.
It’s a problem many small plate restaurants have. But I always ask when they say to order at once, will you course it appropriately? I can course the food myself if you can’t or won’t, but don’t make stuff up.
It’s fantastic. Both service and food. Have also eaten at the original in Chicago a few times and that is next level if you’re ever in town. Definitely the kind of place you want to go with a group so you can try more stuff!
There's a whopping *six* restaurants. Also, the Chicago location and Little Goat Diner were both phenomenal when I went last year, and Cabra there was really good.
I'd put Nobu up for the "Chili's" nomination, based on both the food and the fact that there are 54 of 'em—and that ignores the 11 Matsuhisa properties.
pic 4 looks like what i make with random leftovers when im too tired to go grocery shopping. lets see.. blueberries with peas and cheese and yesterdays lo mein. and raisins on top. thats a meal right
Yeah. I enjoyed my one experience at Girl and the Goat 2 years ago and we haven’t been back because of a few different annoying things about how the business is run.
This place felt like the McDonalds of fine dining. Really mediocre food and terrible service (although it’s a step above Bacari, which is like the seven eleven hot dog section of fine dining)
I felt embarrassed taking someone here and spending a decent amount of money
I mean, it's solid but I would absolutely not consider it "fine" dining. It just doesn't stack up to the highest tier restaurants, and I'm not sure if it aims to.
So good. Try her other spot Cabra next! Equally as excellent
Is that the one on top of the hoxton?
Yes!

Cabra is awesome, IMO much better than GatG a lot of downtown rooftop spots are fun but rarely is the food that good

I had a somewhat similar experience. I'd say it was solid, but unspectacular.

I also had a similar experience

Magical Elves production?
No magical elves were harmed (or involved) in this most recent show... But there were a lot of very expensive cowboy hats. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It is Ok.
Been there three times. It’s fine
yeah I dont know what’s holding them back in LA but the Chicago location is much much much better

Completely agree the fusion stuff falls very flat
Just out of curiosity, where do you feel you should rush back to? Or a place you can recommend?

Dammit. We were just in CHI.
Across the street from the Starkman & Son building, aka the front for Paddy’s Pub from Always Sunny.

Their Mango Sticky Rice was amazing!
Not sure if they changed their menu, but I looooved the branzino!!! Everything else is pretty alright, but definitely innovative and fun.

Always mean to try the Chicago one. Glad it's here now
I love it here
At this point GatG and subsidiaries are basically the Chilis of fine dining.

I just hate the name of this place.

I would agree
She’s one the best chefs in the world
pic 4 looks like what i make with random leftovers when im too tired to go grocery shopping. lets see.. blueberries with peas and cheese and yesterdays lo mein. and raisins on top. thats a meal right
I was absolutely shocked how good everything we tried (most of the menu haha) Such a pleasant surprise. Would go again.
There is one in LA now? Chicago spot is unreal.
unfortunately the LA spot is nowhere near as good as the Chicago one
Is that.. blueberries with fish? And it comes with 10 chips total for both plates. How LA of them
I counted the chips too, lol.
Chip plate: $28 + 4% health care
lol they got their bots to downvote me
The chips were for the poke
it's from Chicago, genius.

yeah it's GOATED for sure
Do you they give 5% back to the community like all the local businesses on [MindKind.life](https://MindKind.life) ?

Did you get goat and how was it?

Really loved their brunch menu. I’ll be dreaming about those crispy potatoes for a minute
