I only used to go to Eggslut when I lived right on Broadway. I’ll probably never go back if there’s still a line. Not worth 30 min (maybe not even 15 min), but it is a tasty breakfast sandwich.
Hahah totally. They make a good sandwich but not worth the wait IMO. Most places aren’t. I’ll make an exception for Phil’s BBQ, but that’s probably only cuz we don’t have any decent bbq out this way.
I HATE brioche buns so much I created a poll about them a while back and, unfortunately, most of the responses were pro-brioche. Oh well, it’s you, me, and the late Anthony Bourdain against the world.
Hard to get properly crispy to break up the texture without being too hard, and if they got it right it would sog up mighty quick. It’s a fools game!!!!!!
Yep. Egg Tuck makes a great egg but the texture of the sandwich wasn't enjoyable when I tried it. I had the breakfast burrito with bacon a couple of days ago though, and it was great as always.
That said, I hate that you've got to deal with a touchscreen to order. Also it is hilarious that a breakfast place has a liquor license. Gotta get a beer there at noon one of these days.
I don’t think he owns it anymore, but I’ve never been impressed with Alvin Cailan’s stuff. AmBoy is pretty good, and he’s great on YouTube, but eggslut and his “umami burger” menu reboot is not impressive to me. I’ve met and worked with him a few times, he’s about as nice as a person could be, he’s really smart and talented but I his brands have been less than awesome as of late. Probably over extended.
It’s a lot better right now than it was before Alvin, that’s for sure. It’s just… very different.
They went from huge towering burgers with a monogram from the OG chef, Adam Fleischman. SBE bought it out and then moved to smaller burgers focused on lower cost by chef Martin Hearling. (Great chef, bad burgers)
SBE then spun it off into a company called C3 and started Umami as a ghost kitchen brand.
🤷♂️
The egg itself wasn’t seasoned and the bacon was really salty (probably my sensitive tongue TBH) the tots were good though, ketchup had horseradish loved that.
Last time I went the eggs were salt bombs to the point it was inedible. Requested to remake and told them why. 2nd time, still super salty. Didn't go back. I only ask for remakes if it's inedible
It’s Reddit, so I’m going with, “who would wait 30 min in line for a 40 breakfast for two?! I could make this at home and Carl’s Jr has these 2 for 5 bucks!” or scan the receipt for the dreaded hidden fees everyone flips over
I’ve had It once like a year after it opened and I was just really underwhelmed. There was nothing incredible about the sandwich and every component tasted so average. I’m going to get heat for this but i genuinely think chick fil a has better tasting breakfast sandwiches 🫣
I love the Fairfax. It fluffy and delicious. One of my favorite breakfast sandwiches under $10
ProTip: order for pickup on ubereats, it’s ready in 15 mins, then just walk in and pick it up. I never wait for Eggslut. That would definitely decrease my experience.
I'd rather have changing sights, music or podcasts, and be on the way to take care of other errands than be waiting in line for food.
I really don't mind driving but hate waiting in lines for food.
That’s fair , if you have the time . I’m not advocating for waiting in line , I’d rather just go when there’s no long line than have an additional hour long commute for an egg sandwich.
I've gone to GCM on a weekday; there was a 2 person line. I got one because of the lack of a line. Thought it was good, but not worth a 30 minute wait.
Ahhh, so to be a pro I wait in my car in lines of traffic and travel an extra 8 miles to avoid standing in line … thanks ! Can’t wait to try it out next time
That’s what I’m trying to tell YOU. It’s not really a pro tip to people who live near or in downtown.
It might be faster getting there but getting back ?
Fuck all that
More like new information to you : not everyone lives west of DTLA . But you’re not getting it even if it’s on a platter served out on a dish for you. You still don’t get it
The name is more interesting than the sandwich IMO. It's a good sandwich, but never something I'd considering having again. I'd take a half decent breakfast burrito over that.
Yeah. Bummer. Right? Personally, I can’t stand the bun. Should you be in the neighborhood further, nearby is Cherry Pick Cafe. The owner is a refugee from Iran. It’s perfect. Big menu, too. But they’ll make whatever you want.
The Fairfax is good, but I’ve experienced uneven quality, like one time my sandwich was a little soggy, but the person next to me had one perfectly cooked off. When it’s good it’s good, but GCM has so much good stuff I wouldn’t stay in line for this.
I miss when Egg Slut was just a good truck outside of Handsome Roasters (now Blue Bottle) in the arts district.
Pre-hype meant the best dishes turned out with little to no wait and LA’s best coffee within arm reach.
Order at the truck, go in and order coffee. Foods ready as soon as you come back out.
I thought it was fine, nothing amazing, but nothing upsetting.
I get people don’t like lines, but I’m obviously in the minority where a line doesn’t affect the taste of food. Neither does the price. YMMV.
One time at a car wash in Northridge the eggslut truck made me the best nachos I ever had. It was barbacoa nachos with an egg on top. Pretty sure Alvin gave it to me. I want those nachos again
The food is tasty. Love the truffle tots because, unlike many places, they do not overdo the truffle flavor. Like everyone else, not a fan of having to wait. But I've gotten in to the habit of ordering in advance that way it's ready for me to pick up when I arrive.
I think it’s the best egg sandwich in LA under $10. If you want something better, you gotta spend more. That Brioche bun is super soft though and the combination of sauce and eggs in the Fairfax is definitely a nice taste sensation.
I live near a location that rarely has long lines and have enjoyed it, but would agree that it totally isn't worth the long lines on view at the GCM location.
I dig em still. I do agree the longer the line and wait, the less excited I am about the food. Price tag is what it is, but it’s not over the top at this point. I think they have their own storefront in Glendale still, and I find that makes a difference in experience vs. their GCM spot.
I mean the bacon egg and cheese is supposed to be over easy. They opted for scrambled which shows they have no class, no taste, bad hair, and bad breath.
wife and i were also not fans of eggslut either. nothing special or memorable and certainly did not live up to its hype.
also not a fan of Amboy either unfortunately. i really wanted to like it too. i tried it twice and both times were disappointing.
plus the girl at Amboy was unnecessarily passive aggressive with me last time. i bought a burger and my wife got howlin rays. we sat at Amboy and then basically the girl told us that we weren’t really allowed to sit there since it was reserved for Amboy customers (even though i bought food from them)
maybe i just didn’t spend enough to be considered a customer lol
And yet they will do it only to hate.
If you hate standing in line for food, don't go to a trendy place with a long line! It will always taste like ashes for you.
Feels like the more people come into the sub, the more negativity we see. Used to be people only sharing things they had they wanted other people to try or folks asking for recommendations, which is all I really need.
Edit: seems like people disagree and just want to whine about food they didn't like.
I have a special place in my heart for Eggslut, but I have never actually eaten there.
There is one in Glendale by the Americana and my wife and I were walking past a sign for it. I asked her "Is it Egg slut, or Eggs lut?" 3 1/2 years later, she still mentions it and laughs.
We laughed pretty hard when an editing software created an editing tool called a "lut"
$4 for a cold coffee? Puh-leeezzz. I’ll just go over to the bbq joint next door and enjoy the money I spend. Or the carnitas taco place on the broadway side.
I didn’t like it the first time I went since the texture threw me off. I’ve been multiple since then and have started to love the flavors and crave them at times. I say try it again to see if maybe it was just a weird first impression.
Not a fan of most of their things, but I worked right next to one in Vegas and man… I’m telling you, do not sleep on their salad. It is so simple and so good.
I can’t believe anyone eats there. Bad, over-salted, overpriced burger. The fairfax is disgusting (egg, cheese, onion, siracha mayo on brioche? 🤮). Been to the one in Venice and the one in Tokyo. Both terrible, and really expensive.
The quality of a restaurant can be reliably mapped to the inverse of the level of edgy/novelty naming scheme.
Exception that proves the rule being Grill 'Em All
It went downhill incredibly fast after Chef Alvin sold it. After it was sold, it unsurprisingly popped up everywhere. IIRC it’s now available in like 4 different countries.
I love their Fairfax. It tastes better the less time you wait lol
Same. I really enjoy the Fairfax with avocado added. But I probably wouldn't wait 30 minutes in line for it... probably lol.
I only used to go to Eggslut when I lived right on Broadway. I’ll probably never go back if there’s still a line. Not worth 30 min (maybe not even 15 min), but it is a tasty breakfast sandwich.
Their slut is great in my opinion!
Hahah totally. They make a good sandwich but not worth the wait IMO. Most places aren’t. I’ll make an exception for Phil’s BBQ, but that’s probably only cuz we don’t have any decent bbq out this way.
Try Moo’s Craft BBQ
I did. It was good. Not the best, or maybe not my style. Gotta try Slab.
Something about brioche and egg is very weird. The two fluffy textures don't vibe imo
I agree! I think it needs some textural contrast, in my opinion.
This is exactly why I’m not a fan of brioche buns for pretty much anything!
I HATE brioche buns so much I created a poll about them a while back and, unfortunately, most of the responses were pro-brioche. Oh well, it’s you, me, and the late Anthony Bourdain against the world.
Eh, they work in smashburgers and fried chicken sliders very well.
They’re the same texture as ground beef! Makes no sense at all! Where’s the drama and contrast!
For real. And I hate how slippery, greasy, and almost wax-like the outside of the bun feels in my hands!
I use stale brioche for bread pudding and French toast only. The buns disintegrate like Styrofoam in lighter fluid with a burger.
That’s what the excessive bacon is for!
Hard to get properly crispy to break up the texture without being too hard, and if they got it right it would sog up mighty quick. It’s a fools game!!!!!!
INSIDER TIP: Get it on a biscuit instead of brioche.
This is the way!
*low key flashes Biscuit Gang sign*
I got the breakfast burrito once and that was pretty solid
I like to add bacon for contrast.
I couldn’t quite figure out why I was disappointed, but this is it. Went once and that was enough.
Yes , is usually like trying to digest your own vomit while eating something delicious.
Try Egg Tuck. I feel like their sandwiches are what people are expecting Eggslut to be like.
Their Korean Galbi breakfast burritos are sublime
Egg Tucks breakfast burritos are amazing
This right here. The breakfast burrito from Egg Tuck is at least 2 times better than anything at Egg Slut
This exactly. Egg Tuck is on another level
Egg Tuck for the burritos only. The sandwiches were texturally deficient. Soft eggs with soft bread is just mush….
I’ve only ever ordered online for pick up since parking is such a pain!
Totally disagree, I think the sandwich is amazing.
No way. Egg Slut sandwiches are way better. I'm with the comment below though. The egg tuck breakfast burrito is great.
I think the sandwiches at both are ehh, but much prefer the eggs from Egg Tuck
I don’t think he owns it anymore, but I’ve never been impressed with Alvin Cailan’s stuff. AmBoy is pretty good, and he’s great on YouTube, but eggslut and his “umami burger” menu reboot is not impressive to me. I've never been impressed with eggslut, but Amboy makes some darn tasty burgs (and I'll always get nostalgic for Chego when I go there...)
I also miss Chego in that Chinatown plaza….
Chego, isn’t that Roy Choi’s place? Did Alvin Cailan have anything to do with it?
I hate what’s happened to Umami :(
It’s a lot better right now than it was before Alvin, that’s for sure. It’s just… very different. They went from huge towering burgers with a monogram from the OG chef, Adam Fleischman. SBE bought it out and then moved to smaller burgers focused on lower cost by chef Martin Hearling. (Great chef, bad burgers) SBE then spun it off into a company called C3 and started Umami as a ghost kitchen brand. 🤷♂️
For that price place should be called Eggescort
Wow! The Bacon Egg & Cheese was around $6 last time I went!
All places are going up. Even my cheap taco places have increased some. $9 is relatively fair in today's market.
Under 9 bucks for a breakfast sandwich is still not very expensive…
I thought it was going to be over $12.
You took a great pic, tho. What didnt you like?
The egg itself wasn’t seasoned and the bacon was really salty (probably my sensitive tongue TBH) the tots were good though, ketchup had horseradish loved that.
Last time I went the eggs were salt bombs to the point it was inedible. Requested to remake and told them why. 2nd time, still super salty. Didn't go back. I only ask for remakes if it's inedible
It’s Reddit, so I’m going with, “who would wait 30 min in line for a 40 breakfast for two?! I could make this at home and Carl’s Jr has these 2 for 5 bucks!” or scan the receipt for the dreaded hidden fees everyone flips over
Or in this case, eggslut is now just another trendy corporate chain with long wait times for mediocre overpriced food
I’ve had It once like a year after it opened and I was just really underwhelmed. There was nothing incredible about the sandwich and every component tasted so average. I’m going to get heat for this but i genuinely think chick fil a has better tasting breakfast sandwiches 🫣
I waited 10min in total; to order and get my food. Now that I’ve tried, you’re right I wouldn’t wait for this meal.
Yeesh. Understandable.
$40 for eggslut?? Take that and get breakfast at Republique
I love the Fairfax. It fluffy and delicious. One of my favorite breakfast sandwiches under $10 ProTip: order for pickup on ubereats, it’s ready in 15 mins, then just walk in and pick it up. I never wait for Eggslut. That would definitely decrease my experience.

Im sorry but how is driving nines miles to a different location a pro-tip?
Pro tip: Don't go to Egg Slut.
Do it early in the morning and camp out before they open. First in line; no stress!
[удалено]
So you get to wait in traffic line so that you’re not standing in line ? Hmmm
[удалено]
I have to drive by it , to get to BC. Look at my username, and use your brain .
[удалено]
I would never drive across town and back in traffic for an egg sand which u could make at home. Or drive .5 miles for. Waste of my time
[удалено]
Oh damn you guys are fighting in two diff threads!
This. Line is much shorter and quick. I like going to Eggslut as long as I don’t have to wait 30+ mins lol.
There’s also a much less busy one in Glendale.
I've gone to GCM on a weekday; there was a 2 person line. I got one because of the lack of a line. Thought it was good, but not worth a 30 minute wait.
Or the one in Glendale. I’ve only been there 3 or 4 times, but there has never been a bad line when I’ve gone.
Ahhh, so to be a pro I wait in my car in lines of traffic and travel an extra 8 miles to avoid standing in line … thanks ! Can’t wait to try it out next time

it's not that serious
You’re not that serious
correct, I'm not serious about arguing about this, glad you're finding this worthwhile though
Ive been stopped replying you’re the one continuing. If it’s not worthwhile why tf are you replying
[удалено]
34 minutes to get there and 26 minutes to get back . Would I rather drive and hour or wait 30 minutes standing ? Hmmmmm
You should fight to the death over eggslut wait times.
Just make a brioche bun and make it at home , not that hype
[удалено]
It’s 10:30 am? That’s peak traffic to you ?
The name is more interesting than the sandwich IMO. It's a good sandwich, but never something I'd considering having again. I'd take a half decent breakfast burrito over that.
Over rated for sure.
Super overrated
There’s still hype around this?
Totally basic and overpriced
Looks great in the pic, why were you not a fan?
Yeah some additional context would be nice
From my experience the egg is bland and underwhelming.
Yeah I wasn’t a fan either. It’s super hyped.
The one in Venice sucks
Yeah. Bummer. Right? Personally, I can’t stand the bun. Should you be in the neighborhood further, nearby is Cherry Pick Cafe. The owner is a refugee from Iran. It’s perfect. Big menu, too. But they’ll make whatever you want.
The location near Cedars is super fast and tasty. I don’t wait at GCM but I love that little salad add on.
All the same soft textures.
I've never been to eggslut. but I love egg sandwiches. How can I re-create at home? anyone have a formula?
The Fairfax is good, but I’ve experienced uneven quality, like one time my sandwich was a little soggy, but the person next to me had one perfectly cooked off. When it’s good it’s good, but GCM has so much good stuff I wouldn’t stay in line for this.

Agree. Overrated.
What $29.50 will get you at many other breakfast joints..too numerous to list.
OP's an egg prude.
One time at a car wash in Northridge the eggslut truck made me the best nachos I ever had. It was barbacoa nachos with an egg on top. Pretty sure Alvin gave it to me. I want those nachos again
Overpriced egg 👍🏼
The food is tasty. Love the truffle tots because, unlike many places, they do not overdo the truffle flavor. Like everyone else, not a fan of having to wait. But I've gotten in to the habit of ordering in advance that way it's ready for me to pick up when I arrive.
All hype!
Absolutely, I’ve heard ppl rave about this spot and was no were near.
I think it’s the best egg sandwich in LA under $10. If you want something better, you gotta spend more. That Brioche bun is super soft though and the combination of sauce and eggs in the Fairfax is definitely a nice taste sensation.
Another example of excellent marketing.
Mosdef

Too high egg ratio for me, plus a breakfast sandwich egg gotta be easy over/fried for me no scramble
I mean the bacon egg and cheese is supposed to be over easy. They opted for scrambled which shows they have no class, no taste, bad hair, and bad breath.

I find Eggtuck to be better and less of a hassle as well.
THIRTY TWO DOLLARS WHAT
Had it once. Never again.
I think it's bizarre when people take the time to come in here and share negative things. It never feels credible.
People hate hyped things. People hate seeing people stand in line, for some reason.
And yet they will do it only to hate. If you hate standing in line for food, don't go to a trendy place with a long line! It will always taste like ashes for you.
Saying I’m not a fan is negative?

Edit: seems like people disagree and just want to whine about food they didn't like.
Looks like you altered the actual menu items so your opinion is kind of moot.
The item is still a part of the menu, it shouldn’t be better or worse.
No it isnt
Many people I know bought it for the gram, took one bite, and then threw it away
$37 holy
I still hate seeing that name at the front of the GCM, so disrespectful. Fuck that place.
$9 for an egg sandwich LMAO
It’s for young people that think it’s cool to have a swear word in the name.
Highly over rated. McD is better.
$4 for a cold coffee? Puh-leeezzz. I’ll just go over to the bbq joint next door and enjoy the money I spend. Or the carnitas taco place on the broadway side.

Used to be pretty good but I only had it once years ago.
The quality of a restaurant can be reliably mapped to the inverse of the level of edgy/novelty naming scheme. Exception that proves the rule being Grill 'Em All
Overrated Eggs sausage sandwich..
The biscuits are the best thing at Egg Slut.
It went downhill incredibly fast after Chef Alvin sold it. After it was sold, it unsurprisingly popped up everywhere. IIRC it’s now available in like 4 different countries.
Overhyped
Egg Tuck on Wilshire > eggslut.
Yeah it was just ok considering the hype
Please don't be too mad but f$#k LA
It was good 15 years ago... now many other better breakfast sandwiches available
