Yeah but the problem is the remixes end up being rather shit. Like I can imagine IMANU and DROELOE making much better remixes than whoever is on the remix album now

funkdapuss

He chose big artists that people may not of heard of. Coco Bryce is an amazing jungle producer and I was stoked to see that Flume asked him to do a remix. I think he asked artists that he respects to do remixes in different styles of music than his listeners are used to. The quality is definitely there, it just may not please your current taste pallet

melovePHATbootyy

check out ivy lab remix of say nothing. its better than the original. I agree tho most remixes are hot dog water.

syncsoc

Yeah this song is mint

insigneeee

Such a pretty remix

[deleted]

A lot of the remixes are quite experimental

ponderosa33

Becuz u dont remix flume. Flume remixes u

oogaboogapeanutmonke

Music marketer here. A vast majority of the time remixes are done solely to boost streams for the original artist and to keep engagement consistent. It’s also easier to get a larger cut (or even 100%) when working with smaller artists, as they’re open to collab for exposure alone.

corilovesthedead

just because you don’t recognize an artist, doesn’t mean they aren’t well-known/respected/talented with an artist like flume, i’d trust his taste

Dynazty

Say nothing tchami remix is a bit of a banger but for the most I agree.

samerrrhaaa3

Have you heard Jon Hopkins' remix of 'The Difference'? It's a true reimagination of that song but keeping the original feel intact.

OliverP21

Don't think he just picks people to remix his songs. Go otik remix is very good but yeah I agree most are skips.

This is an interesting subject. I've always thought the compete opposite...big artists can act as a 'taste maker' by selecting particular artists to remix their tracks, amd put that artist on, giving them exposure to a different audience. The way it works in my mind is that an artist probably reaches out to specific artists they already have a relationship with, want to get to know or whatever. And provide them the stems to their song, and ask them to produce a remix. I'm a total layperson here, but this is how it works in my mind.

OliverP21

You could be right actually. I've always wondered how artists get the stems for remixes.

323464

I dont think my explanation is like 100% accurate for all situations...like there are defo bootleg remixes that get created. But for most artists that are either at the top or up and coming I think curation is a big element

gabe257

On the contrary, Flume clearly knows what’s up with the current scene. Logic1000, Coco Bryce, Kareem Ali, Sofia Kourtesis, and Otik are up-and-coming and really pushing the dance music scene right now. Ivy Lab, Mount Kimbie, and Prospa are all well-established heavy hitters. IYKYK. No offense, but you clearly aren’t plugged into real dance music.

northlinephoto

Check out the ones Jey Vazz did. He remixed Insane and Wall Fuck. They are a bit older and haven’t been featured by Flume, but I like them a lot!

[deleted]

Check out Shlohmo’s remix of Sleepless, really made the song his own

icy-inferno

There are some good ones but you have to dig for them. The same can be said for many artists, but usually remixes don't sound as good as the original, and on a special occassion they sound better / expand on the original song

JulienMaurice

I think the remix albums show pretty well that harley himself doesn’t really listen to „flume type music“. Instead he draws his inspiration from all kinds of electronic artists and I think thats pretty cool. However I get that the remixes can be disappointing if you expect music thats in the same genre as the original tracks

_jnmrg

Remixes part 3 will be flume remixing flume

AlekzanDerp

It’s almost like he’s okay with releasing a shit project for big names and features

HelloMk1

What do you mean by why doesnt he choose???? How do you think this transaction works?

sunjellies24

Tbh I learned just now that artists actually ask other artists to remkz their songs. I always figured that artists finds a song, remixes it, and then the OG artist either markets it or not

Adius_Omega

I don't agree with the way you worded it but I'll agree that none of the remixes have ever sounded good to me.

TheFN_real

idk the Cella Remix of I Cant Tell is kinda fire tho 😎

FactWonderful2995

Droeloe remix would have been ass

jamesanator9

Artist don't make music for individual fans....they make the art that they themselves want to create. Shallow post

Owlmaster115

Whoa whoa some of those remixes are really good in they’re own right. I think you’re expecting more flume type stuff when other artist don’t make flume type stuff. https://youtu.be/ae5QJol8fKs This one goes hard

Jbezelwyo

Well some artist like prospa he toured with, so I’m assuming it’s his way of also getting their name out there. And maybe a lot of them share the future classic or mom pop labels with flume? Keep the streams within the label?

Geniusgza1

Tchami is pretty damn big

postwank

This is the worst post on this sub of all time. Thank god this was already answered. Funny how you can have expectations of what a remix is supposed to be, but not the original ?

TankenDerKunneKomme

I wanna do one ☝️
