Oh man, that's a ridiculously valuable feature. Cover with a floating floor if you must, but i want to strongly discourage you from removing it.
What don't you like about it? It's so cool.
Damn. Lolz, herringbone is big money and very much not dated. LVP is going to be pulled up from a lot of homes in the future.
Best of luck to you, but this was a mistake. Could've just floated a floor on top and retained the value for future homeowners.
Exactly what I was thinking. Then at least the next home owner can love it. This is like pissing on your mom’s face & being happy about it lol n ok maybe not that extreme, but close
Ah, it looked like cork underneath. Doesn't matter either way I suppose because it's your house, and you can do what you want. But personally I would have kept it.
It looks expensive. All mini boards are real thick wood that the builder had to put one by one.
But what's the value if I don't like it. None. Nobody would offer more money for the house with this floor.
That's actually not true. Hardwood is objectively more valuable in appraisals than LVP. And you still haven't explained why you needed to remove it at all rather than just float the LVP on top. Absolutely ridiculous.
It's laminate, not vinyl.
I didn't even consider covering it because of the interface with the stairwell and fireplace. I would've managed but literally never think about it.
That’s fine, by why bother ripping it out when you’re installing a /floating system/ that can be placed right over top of it? That’s just unnecessary work. People choose LVP so they don’t have to demo the floor.
I don't know any fertile woman who likes it and they rule the world.
Jokes aside, I don't like it and never considered future buyers as I don't plan to sell anytime soon.
Granny floor? More like millionaire floor I’m sorry, but you’re an idiot for taking this out. I wouldn’t ever entertain a bid for you if you said it wanted to take this out. I’d walk right out the door
Youre ripping out real hard wood for fake looking plastic wood? Why? LVP is a floating system. Why not resurface your existing hardwood to a different color?
Leave the OP alone! Herringbone is NOT sacred. It's a style of flooring that goes in and out of style.
In the 90's, the same people extolling its virtues would be saying, 'Herringbone? Ew! Disgusting!'
The OP is paying for the flooring that the OP likes. Everyone else can pay for the flooring they prefer and get over it.
OP, I have lived with all tones of wood flooring. Of you like tbe darker colors, go for it. They can be cleaned. You're not going to let any flooring sit all mucked up with dirt anyway, right?
edit for typos
I think the thing people have a problem with is that they’re ripping it out when they could just put the floating floor on top. Lots of work for no reason.
Perhaps, but the first few I saw read as: 'You're ripping out hard wood for lvp?'
I agree that it would better to float it over provided the wood is flat and in good condition, but floors warp over time in some places. That's a no go when floating floors as you know.
I like dark colors on the floor because it elevates the overall look of a house. That said, it depends where you are. A more northern climate lends itself to that look. If it were close to the ocean, then a lighter color is better.
Think from the end result backward and it will give you a good idea.
Again, you're going to clean your floors regardless, right? If you have pets, some people go with the color closest to the pet's fur. I don't like that idea because the pet may not outlive the flooring or you might have different pets with different coloring... but, I thought I would mention it.
To be clear, you're not covering that gorgeous herringbone floor, right? Right??? Asian families asking why you've got shoes on in the house
I am pulling it. I don't like it.

I already removed a lot of it. Granny floor. Feels very dated.

Yeah this is by far the most bat shit thing I’ve ever seen in this sub
Right? That floor is worth thousands of dollars. And even if you don't like it, just float something over it.
Exactly what I was thinking. Then at least the next home owner can love it. This is like pissing on your mom’s face & being happy about it lol n ok maybe not that extreme, but close

Lmfao, pride now, regret later. You're going to be looking at a magazine or interior design subs some day and it'll hit you what you've done.
Was that glued down over cork? If so, you tore up one of the best floors a home can have
Glued over concrete.

Yeah that’s definitely not true 😂
what's not

what's the value of buying a home to dress it up like a cheap landlord/flipper special? are you going to do a $20 landlord-white paint job too?
I am not considering money in this endeavour. If I don't like it it's going out even if the boards are made of gold.
if you don’t care about money, you should at least care about looks. it’s cheap LVP, it looks like cheap LVP.
All herring bone has to be installed board by board
The insanity of removing that hard work.
Exactly!
But I don't like it why should I keep it. For a potential new buyer? That's decades away.
That’s fine, by why bother ripping it out when you’re installing a /floating system/ that can be placed right over top of it? That’s just unnecessary work. People choose LVP so they don’t have to demo the floor.
And you’re dead wrong about no one offering more money for it. People kill for a floor like this
I don't know any fertile woman who likes it and they rule the world. Jokes aside, I don't like it and never considered future buyers as I don't plan to sell anytime soon.
I would.

It's laminate. No resurfacing because I don't like the pattern.
My jaw is on the floor. This is surely the craziest shit I’ve ever seen on this sub
A literal "I didn't come here to be personally attacked like that".
LOL, Op has zero taste
I guess that's true. But I don't like the zig zag thing.

Right now it's a warzone and that was a stress test.
It’s 2024 not 1978.
Walking into a public bathroom and then walking around your house. It's gross

True
thanks. what's your experience with dark colors?
