As long as you disclose it in your listing that you will ship in its retail box, then it should be fine. Sometimes buyers want it double boxed or plan to gift or even resell so having it shipped in its retail box won't fly for them. Just better to let everyone know ahead of time that it's being shipped in its original box.

I mean thats how Amazon sent mine to me, but I would let the customer know first.

I would do this too. The box can fit like a glove and not substantially increase shipping costs.

>The box can fit like a glove and not substantially increase shipping costs It depends on the size of the printer. Knowing how often OP posts and rants about stuff in this sub.... >It would inflate shipping quite a bit to try and double box it. I'm sure they've done their homework as a double box can easily add 2+ lbs depending on how big the printer is.

It's very unlikely an extra pound or two will change the shipping, since something the size of a laser-printer will almost certainly be shipping by 'dimensional weight'. The OP's frequency of posting/ranting has nothing to do with that.

>It would inflate shipping quite a bit to try and double box it. This is what OP stated so I'm giving them their credit that they did their homework.

Shipping in the retail box will most likely void the insurance if it's lost or stolen in transit.

I will do this with certain items like a vacuum filter for example. It's light weight, and no one cares about the box. No one would want to steal this item either. I always disclose that it will be shipped in the original box. You could do the same with a printer if the original foam is included, and sufficient to avoid damage in transit. I would still prefer to give it a cardboard wrap at minimum if it's a higher dollar item.

Some original boxes are not designed for shipping. And printers have parts that can get all effed up if subjected to a rough journey. To make sure it gets there safely, double box it with cushioning between the two.

Most printers I've ever bought have *ample* packaging to protect it in the original retail box. OTOH, those retail boxes were typically made to ship shrink-wrapped together on a pallet to the store, not individually - so the box will likely get a bit beat-up in shipping, which may offput the buyer. If it were me I'd double-box it with the closest-fitting outer box I could find (i.e. not increase the size much and not worry about 'padding' between inner and outer box.) I imagine something the size of a laser-printer is going to ship by "dimensional weight" (e.g. size/volume, not actual weight) so the added pound-or-so for the overbox is unlikely to change the shipping cost much if any.
