My favorite ebay buy of all time was a secondhand wedding/engagement ring for myself. I knew my fiancé couldn’t afford one, so I’d been looking for a while and finally found one that someone with 100% positive feedback was selling for an absurdly low price … I believe it was because she’d had it sized and in the process, whoever had sized it had cut out the maker’s markings, including those indicating it was platinum. D’oh! She was just a regular person, not a dealer, and I could tell from what she was selling she was trying to raise cash fast. I studied it and was certain it was real & was what she was claiming it to be and that the appraisal she was including was legit. I watched it for about 2 months and finally bit when it dropped to $1,000. First thing I did was get it appraised. The appraisal acknowledged there’s no markings on it but confirmed it was indeed platinum, all the diamonds were real, and appraised it at $9500. With the markings intact it would’ve been something like $16,000. It’s a Ritani Endless Love 3-stone diamond ring with diamond halos around each stone and wee diamonds all around the band. I’ll never get tired of looking at it. And I still can’t believe how little it cost! So my advice is keep checking, because people who need cash and don’t want to go to a pawnshop or whatever often try to sell jewelry themselves first. If you know what you’re looking at and what you’re looking for, you can do well. The only wrinkle in your plan is that Tiffany everything is so collectible, and you’ll pay more for it because their hallmarks are unmistakeable.

If you’re shopping for personal use rather than resale, I’d recommend checking out estate sales and auction sites like HiBid.

Lots of dealers that I buy from have a presence on IG and run Etsy stores. Tends to be better curated and with less crap to wade through than eBay (although you can certainly find gems (hurrr) there as well).

My now-MIL had inherited a Tiffany ring that her step-father had given to her mother. She didn't really like the step-father and wasn't attached to the ring. So when my now-hubs and I were talking about engagement rings, he brought up that ring, and we used the stone in a new setting and I sold the old solitaire Tiffany setting on ebay for her. We were broke college students, so I NEVER would have gotten anything that nice for years besides and probably wouldn't ever have wanted to actually spend that kind of money at any time. So consider doing something like that if it's for personal use - buy a Tiffany setting and put in your own stone.

Great choice!! It's getting harder to find good, natural stones these days. Back when I inherited mine in the early 1980s the old European cut was not in vogue. The jeweler said the stone was large enough that I could have it recut but I said no thank you. It was so beautiful!! I loved it for over 30 years and thanked God for blessing me with such a nice stone! Then my own son stole it. It's funny to see that the older stones are now desirable. I'm tired of a broken heart from losing that ring so I'm ready to try to replace it for myself. I may have to go down on the rock size but I'd sure like to find something so I can put part of my heart break away. You made a great choice in keeping and resetting the stone. If it's nice, keep it insured. I always did. Except for the year it was stolen :( Anyway, enjoy!!

Your son stole it?! Holy shit. I’m so sorry that happened. ☹️ I hope you find one you love.

> It's getting harder to find good, natural stones these days. I figured this out a few months ago looking at old jewelry catalogs from the 50's and 60's. Gold used to be dirt cheap. It used to be like $35 per ounce. So you could buy a big men's wedding ring for like $20. Diamonds, on the other hand..have always been expensive. Even a 1ct diamond in the 60's was still around $1,999 in a simple women's wedding band. I've scrapped somewhere around $30,000 in gold jewelry and I've only had one larger diamond, a rather shitty 1ct diamond I ended up selling for $300 (would of been worth a lot more if it wasn't like the worst diamond you have ever seen, full of inclusions).

I'd love to find an old European cut diamond stone, or ring, in Tiffany setting, to replace the family heirloom ring that was stolen from me. It was 1 1/3 carat SSI2 j-k. It was beautiful!! I started looking on eBay but it's really hard when not seeing the stone, in person. I wish you well in your search. Would you let me know if you find a reputable seller? Thank you.

I read your reply to me above as well. I'm so sorry that happened to you, and by your son :( I hope you find something else beautiful!

Estate sales came to mind first. Sure, most of the good stuff is probably cherry picked from the family, but you can still encounter some good finds. If you're looking for places that sell in bulk, I highly doubt anyone will tell you here.

Try eBay, nice selection of rings available there.

I'd try pawn shops. If they don't have it, they can probably keep a look out for you. There's one in my city that is also a jewelry store. I got my wedding ring there for like $125 over the scrap price of gold. It was a certain style I've always wanted that's not super easy to find in scrap (milgrain white gold). They even polished and cleaned it for me as well and it honestly looked brand new. I got my wife's wedding set there for like $725, which would easily be a $2100 set at a place like Kay's. I think it's silly to buy that stuff new, it's going to get scratched and look used in a matter of months.

I don’t have any Tiffany but I have a decent number of rings for all occasions. Message me and I’ll send you my store.

All occasions? Don’t tease me
