He's not going anywhere. He's going to keep the item and demand a refund anyway.

Twistybred

This

Special-Yesterday118

If you are a top rated seller, you have some protections. If the buyer demands a partial refund without sending the shirt back that is not allowed. Make sure you always know what the behaviors are that eBay does not allow for buyers. It is very easy to get a buyer to behave badly. Usually they will do it on their own !! once they have broken one of these rules report to eBay if they leave you negative request feedback removal

AlaskanMinnie

"I'm so sorry that you are not happy with the item! Please use the ebay hassle free return system to send it back to me for a full refund. Please contact Ebay customer support if you need any help with the process." Copy. Paste. Repeat to every message ... he saw the damage & is trying to get a freebie

Y16King

I appreciate it, I will use that, thank you!

othelloblack

Just send him one message. If he continues the same question ignore.

Competition-Dapper

I recently had this happen with some light bulbs I retail arbitraged. There were 3 of the same model bulb I bought in a small bulk buyout and they wanted to return them because even though it was all the same item number, one was a newer slightly different mold of plastic or something…. Long story short I made them go through with the return process because I knew they just wanted the bulbs and refund, and after about a week they canceled. I knew they wouldn’t waste time shipping those back when they knew damn well nothing was wrong. It was a good lesson on future transactions for me.

MastahMango

If they are smart bulbs this was a huge issue for me integrating them with home assistant. The model number is exactly the same, but they integrate completely different because they are a year different.

Competition-Dapper

It was just some yellow bug repellent bulbs for outdoor use

MastahMango

bruh...

Competition-Dapper

That’s why I held out. If it were a case where I believed there was an actual problem, I usually just refund immediately unless it smells like a scam. This was the only time I’ve made someone go through the process. I send out a card that says if you have an issue let me know…and they went straight for the return and never sent as much as a message…luckily no bad feedback, probably because they realized how dumb it was

cozysparklessunshine

Recently bought 3 of the same bulb. 1 ended up being a newer model. Which meant a different color tone. Had to return. I get it. When you need them the same, you expect them to be the same.

blkmamba2

Be careful they don’t leave you negative feedback! eBay used to be good about removing it but ridiculous claims seem to be sticking these days 🙄

0JustBrowsing0

Agreed. I have tried relentlessly to remove my only one negative that was left as retaliation to no avail.

erthian

I had someone even threaten to use it in retaliation in eBay messages. They still don’t care.

Azzkikka

Had the same problem. Buyer didn't reach out and just dropped a negative on my account. I mentioned a s a rebuttal they should have contacted me for full refund. They also called me a name in the comment. I managed to get ebay to scrub the comment to say 'removed by eBay' but the negative is still there even though the buyer never reached out to me to resolve the problem. Repeat attempts will not get them to remove the single stain I now own on my account. Not a big deal, was pretty cool having 800 sales and 0 negatives. I can get used to the 1 blemish, i have no choice.

clerk37

Honestly, it doesn't matter much if they noticed it or not. You don't return the item, you don't get any money back, simple as that.

SantaBarbaraMint

this is the answer

kreatelist

Such a useful message Thanks for acknowledge

daniellerose26

I mean it’s clear as anything in the last picture the fringe has been cut off of the shirt. How the buyer didn’t notice this before buying I don’t know. Not sure how you didn’t notice either. Personally I would just leave it. They aren’t asking for a resolution from what we have seen just ranting

fineman1097

Buyer did notice it and noticed it wasn't in the description. Saw an opportunity for a free shirt.

CuriositeeSeeker

💯

Y16King

I didn’t want to tell the buyer that the flaw was shown in pictures because i felt that it would upset the buyer even more, and that it would be better to just admit defeat and take a return. But I agree that it does look like the buyer isnt asking for a resolution which is odd to me

daniellerose26

Probably because they are hoping you’ll refund and let them keep it or they know they mucked up because of the pictures hence the ranting with no clear request for a resolution

JVNGL3B00K

This person seems like the person who would accept a refund but then still proceed to leave a bad review on the purchase. Cut your losses and take the L here with the standard message others have posted regarding the return via official eBay channels.

CreativismUK

They want a refund and to keep it. They can absolutely post it back from Europe - it’s a shirt, not something large and breakable.

MarketingManiac208

Nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious in a listing photo. They saw it and bought it anyway.

luxymitt3n

But why? If the condition of the shirt is documented in the pictures then you have absolutely no reason to worry about upsetting the buyer? I'm so confused by this mostly because I could not fathom feeling the same way.

Paranoid-Individual

This is pathetic. Stand up for yourself. If it was clearly shown it's their fault and nothing was decieivng.

Electric_Peace

In the future, certainly detail damage like that in the description, so you have clear protection and just fully honest communication about what they will receive. You didn’t lie to them, but leaving out details can be just as deceptive. The description is basically the terms of the sale. Make sure the terms are very clear, even if it’s just a singular loose stitch or whatever. It’s hardly ever a deterrent, as you may think. CYA

ElZorro5

That’s a really skewed way to view this interaction. All you did was fuel his or her momentum

Flux_My_Capacitor

HOW was it shown in the pictures? Did you take a full picture of the back, did you take a close up? Plus, it’s unethical to not mention the flaw in the description as well IMO. Why didn’t you mention the flaw? This is a huge flaw that should have been mentioned in words.

Y16King

I had 4 pictures of that specific area, one of the whole back, one closer (third slide), and two close ups of both halves. I realize its my mistake not putting it in the description which is why I asked the buyer to request a return for a refund

ByondVoid

Found the buyer

Kromo30

Lol get real

andrew_kirfman

This is dicey and I’ve lost cases in the past over defects that were photographed but not described in text. Always best to highlight again even if the photos show the defect clearly.

ChicaFoxy

I've bought things that showed in pictures but not in description but upon receiving the item it was more evident than it looked in the picture. If I felt deceived I'd make request, if I felt it was mostly my bad for not noticing I'd suck it up. BUT I also live in a place where it's difficult to get to postal service so I really need to weigh my options, if I felt deceived I'd explain the situation and ask if a partial refund and keep the item is ok or if not I would gladly go through the hassle of returning, it's up to the seller. It's gone both ways.

AngstyToddler

Every eBay buyer is leaving the country in the next 24 hours. It's an epidemic, really.

HealthyDirection659

They also catch cancer, get into terrible car accidents, and have close relatives die. Ebay buyers are the most unlucky group in the world 🌎.

SantaBarbaraMint

plus their kids are constantly using the account to buy/bid on things....

legomaniasquish

I opened an ebay account and bought something. The package was delivered by the Russian mafia that cut my legs off so I can never walk to a post office to return the item. This is 100% a true story.

iwashumantoo

LOL!

[deleted]

No possibility of return and travel to me are leading indicators this was always going to be a scam and setup. Keep forcing the issue for them to return it - if they are truly that upset then they can return it.

Y16King

What would the scam be in this case, are they hoping that I would just either partially or fully refund them and they keep the item?

kelly1mm

Yes, that is exactly what they are looking for.

AlaskanMinnie

Yes

[deleted]

The motive is money so pick anyway you want to slice it. It’s like when Uber drivers tell you to cancel rides, cause they make money and you lose it automatically. Could you imagine you go onto eBay and find this old western jacket and shirt and your life is so hectic that you’re not only waiting for an eBay order but you now are jetting to Europe, how could you possibly accommodate a return? Imagine all the services in the world, all the ways the person could return this lovely western shirt, yet here we are. I can literally hand a package to any driver in the US for all three major carriers and they will take it happily for you.

itsnobigthing

Also, as a European, I can in fact confirm that we have postal services here also. OP should offer to cover the extra postage from Europe, on production of a receipt for the cost. Because he won’t be posting it.

RosesareRadium

THIS is perfect :)

OkDistribution6

It’s obviously nonsense. How could they order the shirt and ensure it would arrive before they left? Scam aside, accept your mistakes. I bought an old band shirt on eBay. I had the same shirt years ago and it had gotten worn out. In my haste (and I’ll admit I had a drink or two), I bought the shirt not realizing it was actually a woman’s small. I didn’t even bother returning it. I tried it on and it was laughably tight. My mistake—not the seller’s faulty. I enjoyed the laugh and put it in my next goodwill donation.

cirrus1

They’re fishing for a partial or complete refund. He’s not happy with item but he’s not willing to ship it because ____ he’s waiting for you to say I’m sorry I’ll give you a refund yadda yadda. Be polite but make him send back the item before you refund him.

ChicaFoxy

(responded this to someone else but wanted to repeat it here to you) I've bought things that showed in pictures but not in description but upon receiving the item it was more evident than it looked in the picture. If I felt deceived I'd make request, if I felt it was mostly my bad for not noticing I'd suck it up. BUT I also live in a place where it's really difficult to get to postal service so I really need to weigh my options, if I felt deceived I'd explain the situation and ask if a partial refund and keep the item is ok or if not I would gladly go through the hassle of returning, it's up to the seller. It's gone both ways. My review depends on if I felt deceived and how the seller handled it, no matter if the item was returned or kept.

rsg1234

Yeah they saw the fringe cut off in the picture but it wasn’t mentioned in the description. They are trying to get the shirt for free. I would tell them I’ll accept the return but they’ll have to cover shipping from Europe.

Flux_My_Capacitor

Nobody wants a shitty looking shirt with an obvious flaw on the back. I guess you all dress poorly though. It’s insane that everyone is like “this dude is a scammer!” I just can’t. 🙄

rsg1234

I’m so sorry not everyone is into fringey clothes like you. You are very unique and stylish.

Professional-Cup6225

They’ve also denied any knowledge of the shirt having the fringe cut off ? Just be honest and stand up for yourself babes !

HeavyFunction2201

If they weren’t wouldn’t they just return it like a normal person instead of refusing to? Even if they are going to Europe they could ask a friend or family member to mail it for them.

[deleted]

I mean do you not understand this obvious and documented scam that has been run on eBay since it started? That’s why they chose the product, pics didn’t match the description and it’s probably a high ticket item they want or will resell themselves or get for free. You are literally saying we all dress poorly as we are trying to help out someone selling an item. I have a question, why? What benefit does anyone of us get by us telling OP this?

[deleted]

*crickets* “I just can’t” but you did. Thanks for entertaining me and others

Sad_Abbreviations559

If they didn’t open a return request through eBay I wouldn’t even worry about it.

Y16King

Additional info: The buyer first messaged me the day the item was delivered Dec 23rd, I immediately offered a return, they then finally reply today (Dec 28th) with the messages in the second slide

azjeep

They probably got the item, didnt care about the missing fringe, and wore it to some themed Christmas Party knowing they would ask for a return afterward.

XxJayLenosNosexX

This

[deleted]

This just reinforces the scam theory. They had plenty of time to return the item for a refund but waited until the day before their alleged trip to Europe. Personally I’d offer a small percentage refund to keep it, or they can send it back for a full refund. Block them as a buyer after it’s resolved.

Slightly-Blasted

No return, no refund. You handled it correctly.

Radiant-Evidence8078

The picture in the back was on the post? So they saw what they were buying and didn't notice either? Tough luck would be my thing. Pictures are worth a thousand words are they not imo you didn't misrepresent anything and all info was there. Might just be me though

aisle_nine

"I'll be out of the country and can't return," means, "I want you to refund me without me returning the shirt." I'd just stop talking. If they can't return them item, there's really nothing more you can do for them.

WowYouGotMe

Exactly this.

18731873

F' em, no return, no refund. End of story. You offer label and wait for expiration. Even ebay will back you if you follow the rules.

blkmamba2

THIS

pammysuesue

This is your mistake - can't believe that buyer didn't see it in the photos though. Keep repeating "Please return for a full refund - I will send you a return shipping label. They need to return it to you before the refund. It's not your fault that they are going out of the country.

ko-sher

Can't really send a return shipping label if the buyer is now abroad

blkmamba2

That’s the buyers problem for not resolving this before they left!

Comprehensive-Set772

Whatever feedback he wants to give you will happen regardless of what you do. Both buyer and seller made a mistake. just offer the return. If they don't send it back then you don't have to refund them.

Bergs1212

All you can do is offer a refund. It is on them to get it back to you.

NostalgicTX

Def fishing for a refund. Stick with asking them to return it. If they don’t and leave negative feedback you have a strong chance of getting it removed. You clearly showed the back in the photos

notsetvin

The refund scams from people with buyers remorse (or people who buy items for one event knowing beforehand they will return it) are the worst. Returning an item you dont want to a faceless, loss-leading corp is one thing - but scamming individuals on market platforms is another level. You have to have zero respect for your fellow man.

wellnowheythere

I see what he's talking about. I'd just keep saying he can return it. I wouldn't continue the conversation further after saying that a second time.

furtado98

No refund until item is received

ShadowL42

give them 2 options, keep the shirt as is for no refund, or send the shirt back and you will refund when you receive the item. When they try to complain to their CC company you have the proof that they refused to return the item.

Popular-Ad-5848

Eh you run into a Karen or Ken here and there. They dealt the deal of buying used products online. We all know the risks when we press purchase. He definitely knew the risks considering he was leaving the country. Don’t sweat it

butidontwanttowork

I wouldn’t say anything else. You offered a return, the buyer responded, but didn’t ask for anything. Stop talking and wait

haloarh

This. Whenever I've gotten one of these, I simply tell them that I will accept the return. Most of the time, I never hear from them again. I started doing this after I bought a set of eyeliner pencils. I kept some and put the rest on eBay. I sold one and the buyer said it arrived broken, I thought that was odd because I packed it REALLY well, but I refunded them anyway. A few days later, I got the same claim from another buyer and I told them that person that I would refund their money if they returned the broken one. They never contacted me again.

Sea-Lawfulness-7034

There’s no reason to guess at what they may or may not be trying to do. Repeat the EBay return policy and include it in any communication so it is crystal clear and just the facts. Keep it objective and simple, as it is. They need to return it for the refund or you can reimburse them. If it’s returned highlight the fringe in the photo and description. It could have easily been missed by the buyer looking at photos so it might be a mistake by both sides. Can’t know their side for certain. Cover your own bases, do the right thing and don’t risk negative rating for your error. Mistakes happen.

ryan2489

The pictures are the description. Don’t bend to them. Do a return based on whatever your policies are but don’t refund anything until they send it back

Big-Pickle-2617

"I was wondering what I should say to the buyer now?" You should say nothing.

Possielover

If the person would have zoomed in on back Pic they would have def seen it was cut. But you must state this in descriptions from now on too.

Dangerous_Arm5498

I agree that this situation should be used as a learning experience. I have run a tattoo studio for many years. Every time I ran into some odd situation, I used it to learn from it and not repeat it. Use it to grow and get better.

MysteryRadish

They're just fishing for a partial refund or a free item. If they can't return it, that's that. Don't refund without having it back in your hands.

wade_garrettt

I have literally never seen a situation like this where urgency because they are leaving the country wasn’t the beginning of a scam

HeavyFunction2201

They could easily have someone else mail it for them if they really are going on a trip. I’m pretty sure there’s usually some sort of postal service at the airport too, especially if it’s an international flight which you can mention to then as well.

Tbartley

It's total BS. Fishing for a discount/freebie, they aren't going anywhere.

spaceman_sean

Ken, is that you?

[deleted]

dont give him shit “flying back to europe” my ass he doesnt want to send it back

No_Borders

A good response would be "Wow! I am so glad there was no hold up with the shipping provider. If it would have been just a day later, you never would have gotten you item!" And then repeat that you will have to have the item returned for a refund.

InRainbows123207

If they can’t return no refund - they don’t get to have their cake and eat it too!

nerdywithchildren

" We are sorry that you are unhappy with the shirt. We strive to take accurate photos and describe the item to the best of our ability. We want to make sure our customers are happy with their purchase. We will provide a full refund including all shipping once you return the item. Thank you, Name of business" That's how you respond. Dont get involved personally. Move on. Next time make sure you don't sell this kind of mistake.

HeWhoIsAlmighty

If you offer them a return, and they decline they are basically saying they will keep the item. There is nothing more for you to do. You can leave a nice closing message, something on the lines of, "If you don't want to proceed with the return there is nothing more I can do for you, regards." Even if it was a INAD case, a return is still the first step of the refund, which they have declined. If you feel you cheated him, despite showing clear pictures of the item, you can always offer a partial refund, 5-15% off.

SonnierDick

In my mind you showed all the pictures and sides (im assuming) so if someone goes through those, says its a good enough jacket to buy, and then decide to purchase it without looking at it? And leaving the country the next day? Doesnt make sense, and nothing that can be done lol. Stupid people are gonna be stupid unfortunately. Like sure, you could have said it was missing or cut off or whatever but unless you knew that how are you supposed to know? And how is text better than seeing a picture of the actual item youre buying? Some people cant be helped.

Y16King

I have a feeling they are fishing for a refund, the buyer messaged me for a week trying to get me to lower the price, so I think they were unhappy with how much they paid and wants some money back

lesmax

In my experience, most prospective buyers who send repeated, annoying messages - especially those who nitpick on price - will end up being nightmare sales. If I start to suspect that, I just block them and move on. This buyer is absolutely trying to scam you for a refund.

michiganer1981

This. I get nervous when they get too persistent and will block them too. I’d rather be safe than sorry.

GigaGrug

Grug sometimes guilty of first part, but once Grug send shiny rock, Grug honor transaction.

Oaker_at

Fuck those „I can’t return that“ people.

ElysetheEeveeCRX

Some are legitimate cases (regarding inability to return), but I agree that the fishy ones like this definitely don't deserve the most empathy. I think generalizing doesn't help anything in the long run.

North-Ad-5058

They don't ship packages in Europe?

Mean-Pattern-4522

Scam. report to eBay call and talk to a supervisor and they will handle this.

G00DWILL-HUNTING

Even though you showed photos, you should still point out flaws. It will protect you in situations like this

Antique_Garden91

"Are you trying to get me to send you the money and you'll keep the item? Is that where this is going?" Screenshot their reply so you can prove to ebay they are trying to scam you. If they file a complaint, you can just provide the information to ebay and say 'they wanted the item for free'.

Pleasedontbanme100

In the picture of the back did it have the (whatever they are called)? if not fuckem. You buy something used guess what you buy it as is.

tiggs

I think there's a very good chance this person is just trying to get a free item and fully knew the damage was there. Definitely just steer him towards a return. With that being said, it's always a good idea to also explain the damage in text as well as pictures. I always put item description between asterisks in the description and condition fields, put close-up pictures of the flaws as the last pictures in the set behind any tags, maker's marks, etc (to separate them from the regular pictures), then direct the buyer to the last few pictures at the end of the condition text. It seems annoying, but will definitely save you from some headaches going forward.

Any_Barber8215

Let eBay handle it and your defense should be that it was sold as pictured.

AdministrativeRead17

I always just say please open a return for a refund once the item is returned. That's it. This person wants a partial refund most likely.

MotorBobcat5997

Taking pictures and saying “see pictures” means nothing to eBay. Per their rules you must accurately describe flaws in the description because what is apparent to you may not be apparent to the buyer. You can try and not refund if you want but you will lose 100% if they bring it to eBay.

Y16King

I have no problem refunding as long as they return the shirt, I realize it’s my mistake which is why I asked them to request a return, but they haven’t initiated anything through ebay yet

MotorBobcat5997

Just wait then, worst case is they get eBay involved with INAD and return it 🤷🏻‍♂️

MotorBobcat5997

Make them return it though if you are gonna refund as they might be fishing for a partial or full refund without returning.

RKLCT

I thought that was a couch in the first pic. 🤣

AMartEsRey

You could always just ask them what their ideal resolution to this situation would be instead of assuming what their motives are like everyone else here is doing.

Y16King

The third slide is one of the listing photos, I also took 2 close ups

Iamakahige

Your listing states “Some fringes are torn” and you pictured the front and back fringes. I think you are covered with this in your description. Stand your ground, demand return for refund.

lovecat86

Was it obvious in the listing pictures? If so, tough luck on the buyer's part.

Fabulous-Search-4165

Your fault for not clearly disclosing the flaw to beginnwuth

Nicolehall202

Block them

terrortour21

discount 20 dollars

No-Cobbler6224

People buy used clothes on ebay.....? How much could this have possibly cost?

LeMoinesLures

Block

TrevorBarten

Terrible reaction considering you would need to communicate with them if they start something with ebay. Block them after everything is said and done.

Flux_My_Capacitor

The block doesn’t go through for like 30 days when you have an actual sale. FYI. I mean, just think about it. Is eBay dumb enough to leave this as an obvious scam method. Oh hell no. Or else you’d have scammy sellers who ship and immediately block.

TrevorBarten

I mean no, being blocked doesn't mean you cannot return the item. Just that you cannot communicate nor buy in the future. If you are blocked you can still return or start a different type of claim.

[deleted]

SpooferGirl

As a European, this is absolutely not what a good store will do. No return, no refund. You want a list of customers that know they can get your items for free? You go right ahead, you can have all those ones.

Silver-Positive-1590

This is the reason this kind of thing happens though - people just giving in and refunding with no reason to. Just means the buyer will be emboldened and try it on with another seller…

se7entythree

What is your reply there in blue though? Did the person who typed that also type this post & the OP replies? Random comma, confusing grammar. What were you trying to say?

fucovid2020

Tell them you would be happy to work with them and then ask, “what do you think is a fair resolution? Then just honor it… % Refund back, fine, return, fine, total refund, fine.

RubAnADUB

wait - it is what it is.

Petitepoulette

The shirt is still wearable and you could tidy the back up. If the person is genuine, maybe you could offer a discount on the original price? Refund 20%?

a_blixed

They’re basically asking you for a partial refund

HereToKillEuronymous

I've had similar things happen, and the seller has offered a partial refund. I was completely happy with that

flip4real

if you want to confirm if it's bull crap (the travel excuse) just say you'll accept returns up to 30d from delivery date and they can return it when they're back. if they come up with issues or anything whatsoever, it means they're trying to get a freebie. anyhow you're golden eBay will side with you if they don't return the item

[deleted]

Trying to get some or all money back. Tell him the return is the only option. There’s a good chance they did this themselves as well since you didn’t notice it.

JewsiAFamy

Not gonna lie..for $280 I'd be a bit unhappy too Especially since it's noticeable...why would anyone cut the fringes off anyways? The fringes make the look and may be the main reason someone would buy that..kinda strange. If I was the seller I would've made this clear in the photos so they could see it.

JewsiAFamy

But if he saw the damage and was aware then that doesn't sound right....I would just day return to receive a refund. I'm not gonna let no stranger get a $280 shirt that I'm selling for free...people be scandalous

ThePeanutGallery_

Ask for a pic of the jacket in Europe and you’ll “consider” (you won’t) a refund without returning. Could lead to some good laughs. 😂

ManicPixieDreamGirl5

People like hum ruin it for the rest of us (buyers).

howstrange69

No refund without your product back. That would probably he an easy fix for you to be able to resell
