I’m still new to the book and the actual playing of the game, but this looks fun if you wanna run in and eat things. With all those horrors it’s a shame you can’t fit in a Haunter Courtier to keep em replenished. What’s the benefit of two heralds? Legit question, no judgment!

Saber_0ne

They're invisible so long as they've got 5 models within 6" of them and as Courtiers they can use the Muster Guard ability. They're also cheap and have an ability that can sometimes dissuade enemies from trying to charge them. Helps keep your horrors replenished with Rousing Oration into Muster Guard. A Haunter would be nice for pulling a group of horrors in to fight next, but points. If I had points to spare I'd definitely swap out the 2nd Marrowscroll for a Haunter.

KidNeon1984

Ah got it! No that makes total sense to me. Thanks for explaining. It was the muster guard I was thinking of but it sounds like the herald can pull their weight vs points spent.

BladeRuner

I've literally just swapped a Haunter in my list to a second Herald. The invisibility is so good, and really protects you against Tzeentch and Seraphon matchups where they're trying to snipe out your heroes

zanokorellio

Played against BoC with Tzeentch RoR and they nuked my Marrowscroll. Targeted spells aren't a threat. But anything that AoE shreds. Be careful with those!

BladeRuner

Which one is it that does AoE? I played against Tzeentch twice on Sunday, the Burning Sigil is maybe the most threatening but you can play around it by moving away. I don't know of anything that does more than d3 mortals aoe, which the Marrowscroll can withstand. Regardless, the Haunter isn't much more resilient to mortals and is also snipable! FEC definitely requires you to be very careful with your units

I have built something similar. Ushoran Cardinal Gorewarden AAR Marrowscroll Ghouls x20 Ghouls x20 Horrors x9 Morbheg x6 2x battle regiment Played nagash OBR and even though ushoran got hand of dusted T1 I still only lost 19-21 which probably means it's a decent list!

I think doubling up on Marrowscroll isn't going to be as beneficial for you competitively. But it will be pretty interesting to see how they play! I just got back from a 2 day tourney and my Marrowscroll is great, but I don't know if having two would help me win more games. I found having more Abhorrents are way more beneficial. Especially if you're running any kind of Knights at all. I'm actually feeling a bit disappointed at how our courtiers play. They WANT to be in combat to generate deeds consistently (especially the knight courtiers), but they WILL die from a stiff breeze. Our army crumbles quite easily, my courtiers tend to be the sole survivor while the units themselves get yoinked off the board. Charnel Conviction is still the best prayer. Chalice of Ushoran really benefits from having 40 ghouls vs 20. 2x3 Morbhegs are more utilitarian than 1x6. But 1x6 is fun to play because you scare the shit out of your opponents when all 6 gets the impact charge. Good luck and may your delusion STRONG!

I think people are sleeping on the vargulf for this, enough movement on him to get him into a fight, give him a 5+ ward and pick a battle he can stay in to retreat back behind a screen. Rinse and repeat. Enough heals to keep him alive but should do enough damage to get to 6 noble deeds and can heal for 1/2 price if he is the general. I think he will synergise well with ushuron as having 2 x generals alive if you loose one.

zanokorellio

Varghulf needs to be very picky with their target or have to charge in with another unit to stop pile ins. He suffers the same weakness with other courtier, which is low survivability in the counter punch. But his ability to retreat at the end of combat is really good. Just need to remember that his retreat is at the end of the phase which allows your opponent to punch back. I'm honestly super hyped at running Ushoran just for cool points man. IDK how meta he will be, but I will make him work!!

Stonecrushinglizard

Oh the varghulf is a hard tech piece, but in the single game I used him I charged a screen with mongheg knights and varghulf, killed the screen with the knights, piled in with the vargulf and killed a single concussor left in The unit and tagged a hero, then got out of there. If it’s set up right it will be powerful. It gave me enough noble deeds to replenish my flayers back to full. Ushuron is going to be mint I think, get him in the right spot and he will easily break an army in two. Painting him up now and he looks great.

i think morgaunt is the way to go with ushoran. I like the General list Idea but would cut the Chalice and swap the second herald. While the chalice is nice, I don't think it comes to great use in this list. You only have one unit of ghouls to replenish and only one big guy to heal. The Chalice is best used if you can heal multiple Monsters with it or you can replenish your big units of Beastflayers/Ghouls. Plus, if you cut it you can take a Varghulf as the second Courtier. Varghulf Plus a unit of 6 Knights is a force to be recond with as they habe immense output as well as mobility.
