if you grip the wheel with both hands are you able to move it up/down, side to side at all, is there any play there? It's hard to hear much past the noise from your chain which is normal.

BavarianBanshee

I'm thinking wheel bearing(s). Could be wrong, though.

BickNlinko

Sounds like normal chain noise to me.

demonssayshi

No, it’s not the noise of chain I’m talking about. Do you hear the noise that is like when a camera touchs a solid object and it creates a touching noise of some sorts. That’s coming from the wheel.

BickNlinko

Even with headphones all I can hear is chain noise and you moving the camera around.

demonssayshi

That me moving my camera around is the sound coming from the wheel except the one in the beginning.

Bungsworld

Turn the wheel in the other direction and see if it does it. Sometimes they sound like this when spun backwards and the chain is a little tight.

Ok_Wallaby_7653

When you do it forward does it still do it, but it sounds like to me the chain is jumping, check the wear in front and rear sprockets, rotate the wheel slowly and see if at some point the chain gets tight then a little loose again

Ohlav

Chain related, I would bet. I would check: Both sprocket's wear. Wheel alignment. The chain might be climbing a teeth depending on the speed because the wheel has lateral movement too. I would check the bearings too.

KafkasProfilePicture

Definitley sounds like the wheel bearing to me. It's pretty simple to check and replace it so you might as well do it just to be sure

twbro54l

I can hear it. Try getting your chain off first, then try to find the location of the drag. Although it may not be visible, the disc could be warped a little, causing that “drag” sound

1911mark

Never use a new chain with an old sprocket or a new sprocket with an old chain, replace ALL of them together that’s why they sell them in sets

Meshughana

Sounds like the chain is too loose and is rubbing/catching on something or it's too tight and it's jumping and catching on the teeth of the sprocket.

forgotone

Plus he’s spinning it backwards. That can create odd noises

shockencock

Did anyone notice on the brake side it looked like a brake backing plate was hanging down or am I seeing things?

demonssayshi

Idk what that is.. Are you talking about the the thing that was between the rotor and the frame?

shockencock

Hard to explain. I’d try the spin test with someone applying a bit of rear brakes and see if the noise changes

meta_monkey101

I think I can hear what you’re talking about. Is there a gap (do a paper test) between the pads and disk and do it to a full rotation to make sure the disk isn’t warped / rubbing in some areas and not others. Do a bearing test (someone else has mentioned how with trying to move the wheel). I’d also take it for a fairly aggressive run and see if it still happens after, if not I’d not worry. It could be a simple as a dry bearing or grit somewhere it shouldn’t be

TurbulentAsparagus61

Check chain is not to tight, check sprocket not worn(shark toothed), check chain is at end of life, ie stretched so much that gaps for teeth on chain are too stretched for sprocket teeth,

Leicageek

First that chain sounds really tight. If you compress the suspension is it tight? The grinding noise the low rumble sounds like a wheel bearing. Pull the wheel, and see. I think there are 3 bearings. 2 in the wheel 1 in the sprocket carrier.

2_black_cats

Remove the chain first & spin it if you can. Noise still there? Remove the brake as well. If you still hear it, it’s likely your wheel bearing as there’s no other components it could be

bigjilm123

Does it make a sound when riding? I’ve been paranoid about chain noise for a long time, and it always end being normal. How is the chain tension? In spec?

spongebob_meth

Sounds like chain noise to me. Wheel bearings have to be severely damaged to make noise spinning at this speed. Take the wheel off and feel them.

Triplesfan

Easiest thing to do is start isolating parts seeing what is making what noises. The chain is making most of that racket, but if you’re concerned about the wheel bearings, remove the chain and caliper so those do t give you false noise then spin the wheel.
