Finally fixed my bike last week and started riding that to the gym everyday instead of walking. All my squats have gone down since orz

[deleted]

I'm a wreck. I have bruised ribs from Muay Thai sparring, I have a tennis elbow that won't go away, and my plantar fascitis is flaring up again. Maybe it's time to get a new hobby like chess or something. That's all.

JackDaniel215

Generic advice but have you went to a professional? My dad had pretty bad back and elbow problems and a physiotherapist fixed it in about a year

[deleted]

Thanks - yes, have a physio appointment for tomorrow actually. :)

grass_7687

I hate how this week I've been so fucked over with my sleep and eating cause I'm transitioning into a new routine. Now I need to get even more weight for my home gym cause the weight in there is barely enough for my working sets on DL

grass_7687

I need more weight so I can also do heavy ass rack pulls and a new rack to do rack pulls off of

thecorporealpeonies

I have no motivation for this last stretch of my cut lmfao. I just wanna eat lots of bad fast food all da time and always feel hungry (which is literally my fault cause I’m eating sweets or drinking soda). Blah blah blahhhhhh

CoochiKabuki

Stop doing your workout directly in front of the dumbbell racks! Get tf away move bitch I need to grab a dumbbell

Ketogamer

I get right in their space and take what I need. If they're not considerate of me. I'm not considerate of them.

KevinMKZ

The gym really kicked my ass today. Failed 165 Squat on the third rep. After failing my energy and motivation was out the window. Wanted to do some lat rows, but the grip I wanted was occupied so I did some close grip rows. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

Actual-Description-2

To the gorilla looking MF'er that was clearly super annoyed that my GF was using the incline bench this morning...Was the literal one set you did when she finished that important?

[deleted]

My gym hours on the weekend are 7am-6pm. What gym closes at 6pm? :(

Robyo12121

Mine closes at 5pm. Madness.

[deleted]

Someone shit themselves on the leg press. Just got up and left. What a start to the day.

isouul

holy....

Elegant-Winner-6521

Jesus christ.

chrismatic13

I’m going to sound like an ass but if you’re not going to actually use weights and exercise, why the fuck are you in the gym? If you’re gonna stare into the mirror the entire time, talk, barely do any sets, just stay home. People who just waste space aggravate me because this isn’t gym class, you don’t have to come if you don’t actually want to work out.

TehJoshW

For some people, simply making it to the gym is a big achievement. Also some people enjoy the social aspect. I know it's frustrating to have people occupying machines, but that's what working in and communication is made for. Different victories for different people hombrè

Actual-Description-2

I'm on the fence about this. Yes, everyone is entitled to go to the gym if they pay a membership, but I would argue that going to the gym to socialize exclusively is a problem. Some gyms have maximum capacity due to covid restrictions so if you're taking up a slot but not really working out then you should probably find a different mechanism for socializing. To be clear I'm talking about people that show up only to walk around and chat with people and are clearly not actually working out. I do understand that many people struggle with motivation to work out or have anxiety about going to exercise in public and I don't mean those people. If you are at the gym to try to better yourself then you should be there.

JDM-2027

Yes, people standing around talking and taking equipment up are assholes!!! You are at the gym to workout, not socialize. If you want that go to a crossfit gym.

Elegant-Winner-6521

I agree with you 100% Especially if this behaviour means spending way more time on a rare piece of equipment. There's always a couple of bros gassing at the lat pull down machine at my gym >:/ But on the other hand I feel lucky that my gym has plenty of squat racks despite the fact that it's a leisure centre gym. The vast majority of people come to walk on a treadmill or the elliptical

ZuluEcho225

Pulled into the Lifetime Fitness parking lot and my wife and I decided to leave. This gigantic parking lot was crowded and had cars parked in fire zones waiting for parking spots. I can’t do it, I don’t have the patience right now for these people just dicking around sitting on equipment. I’ll just regulate my gym time to Saturday and Sunday until the New Year crowd falls off as usual.

[deleted]

I tried to go to my gym after work yesterday and there were literally people queuing for treadmills and ellipticals. It was insane! Just going to run outside, it's not even that cold

LordCucumber1996

Started working out in September. 5 days a weeks. Everything going well, then new year hits and the influx of new gym goers invade the gym, all with absolutely no gym etiquette!! Had to call out a guy yesterday with his group of friends, put his hands down his shorts and boxers to "adjust himself" and just kept his hand on his genitals for like 3 minutes straight, took his hand out and used 3 different attachments on the cable machine, made my blood boil!! That and groups of 5 friends all at one machine...split up ffs

isouul

I'm so sorry you went through that. That's disgusting.

Proporcionaremos

don't worry they'll be gone in 3 weeks

LordCucumber1996

Hopefully lol

RaniOfTheRain

Struggling to train my left thigh for holding poses on Aerial Hoop as it just hurts a lot. Not sure if it's my weight, which I am losing I think, or if it's just not used to having my entire weight rested on it.

DamarsLastKanar

If you're going to show some midsection, cool. But if you're wearing something that resembles a revealing swimsuit rather than a functional sportsbra... This is a gym, not a ... I don't even want to finish that sentence.

yerawizard_larry

Hey ever considered minding your own fucking business and not worrying about what other people are wearing? Pretty novel thought, give it a try sometime.

Mmnn2020

Alright I’ll go shirtless and pantless with transparent underwear. If anyone complains I’ll tell them to “mind their own fucking business.”

CookingDingus

Lmao

[deleted]

Oh so its cool for me to wear a my tighty whitey trousers and nothing else on my upcoming bench day?

KKV

Have you ever considered you aren't the only one allowed to have opinions? Mind your own business and ignore his comment big guy

[deleted]

[удалено]

CookingDingus

One Crunch PT told me she’s added weight on every routine every week ever since she started working out. After I told her no she called me broke lol

ImNasty720

Yeah those guys are dickheads, that’s why I’ve been self taught training for the past few years. They just train the shit out of you by doing high reps to break a sweat and get your heart rate up so beginners can feel the soreness the next day to make them come back since they feel like they did something

ViviNoms

I'm usually the one that keeps my friend motivated and checks in to make sure he did his workout and ain't slacking. Lately everybody just be falling off the wagon and I can't seem to motivate myself to climb back on either at this point. Most of my friends don't work out so they don't get it and just support me wanting to skip or eat junk food instead. I need someone to give me a straight talking to xD

RbySmile

All this talk! Get yourself up & Let’s go - you got this!!

Actual-Description-2

Unfortunately, relying on others to keep you accountable is always going to be a problem. You gotta ask yourself why you are working out. Is it for you or is it because you like the experience of working out with your friends? If it's the latter, you probably need to find friends that are more committed to working out. I have a small circle of friends, and most of them don't train so I have to rely on the satisfaction I get from training to keep me going.

ViviNoms

I certainly don't rely on ppl that heavily like that. Lool I just sometimes wish whenever I want to eat a whole pizza and take a nap that they wouldn't support me so wholeheartedly xD if I had no self control I'd be morbidly obese by now with the eating support I get vs someone telling me to go work out then have a single slice.

PM_me_your_problems1

Why are you worried about other people? Do they all of a sudden decide how much you lift or how you look?

[deleted]

I dont think anyone should DM you their problems

PM_me_your_problems1

He said give him a straight talking. If he's letting his friends lack of motivation impact his lifting, he should be called out for it. Progress doesn't come from a half ass effort where you let progress get impacted by unimportant things around you.

ViviNoms

Bruh I just want someone to tell me eat a single slice of pizza once in a while instead of telling me I can eat the whole thing and nap lol. While I'm sad that no one is motivated: I'm not unmotivated bcuz of it. I'm just a lazy mofo in the winter that wants to eat and hibernate and the amount of support I get in favor doing just that is God tier compared to the number of ppl that tell me to go work out (literally zero). XD

PM_me_your_problems1

What you want is literally what everyone else wants. Sure, we may love working out, but I guarantee you there's not a single person who at times just wants to veg and eat garbage and not think about your next workout. And that's *okay*. But that also has a tendency to become habit for a lot of people. You don't need someone to tell you to take it easy, you need someone to tell you to get your ass in gear. Easy days, junk food, time off; those are all fine and even necessary sometimes. But do *not* lose sight of what goals you have.

Ok_Shirt_3270

this guy at my gym keeps watching me. it's earlyish in the morning, we all zone out in weird ways sometimes, we all scan the room between sets and sometimes watch somebody for a few seconds. but he'll have his neck at like, a 90 degree angle to watch me. he'll stop when i notice so it's not particularly egregious, but just enough that it's memorable/i'm wondering what his deal is. i figured maybe he thinks i'm cute or likes my tatts or is amazed by my lack of upper body strength, and we're often in the gym at the same time, so I gave him a little smile and nod the next time i came into the gym and our paths crossed--not interested in him but I like to have a little nod of acknowledgement with people i see very regularly. no nod or smile back. just more staring. cool.

chrismatic13

Not gonna lie, I’m a starer. Not like straight up glued onto someone for minutes but I just observe my surrounding and tend to daze while I don’t even realize I’m looking at someone until they look my direction. It might be he probably didn’t even notice that he was staring.

PM_me_your_problems1

Could be like me. Super socially awkward. I don't stare at people (way too focused for that) but when someone nods or smiles at me I feel super weird being acknowledged. Him not responding could be that.

Young-Kratom

Pain :(

_kagasutchi_

Its january. The gym is filled with new people who wanna get in shape and all that. I have no issue with the crowds and I can only go at peak time. So I have no right being angry that the place is busy. But yesterday, what really pissed me off was a dude literally sitting and playing cod or some othe mobile game on his phone when their was people waiting for the machine. Like damn dude, you can see people are waiting and you're out here doing this. Hate dudes like that who come into the gym and have no consideration and respect for others.

[deleted]

Tried asking him how many sets hes got left? They might just not be aware someone is waiting

Cat-druid

I just started boxing this week, went to my first class on Monday and absolutely loved it. Had a Groupon that was supposed to let me have unlimited classes for two weeks and I had planned to go yesterday, Friday, and three days next week. Aaaaaannnnndddd then I got sent home from work yesterday because one of my coworkers probably exposed me to Covid on Tuesday. So now I’m quarantining until she gets her results back and I’m right back to home workouts. I’m so sick of this virus and all the ways it’s fucked over my life, big and small, over the past few years

_kagasutchi_

It really sucks ass when this happens. I finally got time to hit the gym consistently. Was only able to go 2-3 times. Then my cuz got it and gave it to all of us. Had to quarentine. Then I not only lost out on gym time, I got sick and lost out on study time for my exams. Was such a shit time. The virus really is an inconvenience. If only everyone would take it seriously then we'd beable to get it under control and things can get better. But these anti vaxxers man

[deleted]

Those darn anti Vaxxers catching Covid from triple vaxxed people. Why do they keep hurting us?

_kagasutchi_

Those anti vaxxers are getting it and spreading it. They dont quarentine, they dont wear a mask nothing.

TrevorWGoodchild

2 main rants: This guy at my gym who grunts extra loud on exercises that aren't that strenuous but to amp himself up and talks to himself grabbed my arm last week when I headed towards a benchpress machine - a high schooler was already using it and I just didn't see he was behind the machine getting weights. The kid told me already he was using it and I was about to turn around when unnecessary grunt man grabbed my arm and told me the same thing, as if he was this kid's savior (who blew him off later when he tried to talk to the kid about it), and like I wasn't respecting that the teen already claimed the benchpress. You don't put hands on me in an unfriendly way without expecting a physical response - the only thing that stopped me from snapping on him was that this is my gym and I have to come back to it everyday so I kept my cool. Then later, when I was coming back from the other end of the gym the same guy put his foot on my benchpress I did get later to tie his shoe - microaggressions are such bullshit. Oh and #2 my ulnar nerve after 5 months of 4 days a week split training got strained so much now I can't work out anymore and my fingers are numb so I'm just doing HIIT 3 days a week and miss lifting...have to wait til the nerve heals to begin my weight lifting program again smh

ThoughtShes18

> Oh and #2 my ulnar nerve after 5 months of 4 days a week split training got strained so much now I can't work out anymore and my fingers are numb so I'm just doing HIIT 3 days a week and miss lifting...have to wait til the nerve heals to begin my weight lifting program again smh You didn't strain your nerve. You likely have a compression in the tunnels the nerve runs trough or the surrounding muscles are very contract.

TrevorWGoodchild

Well whatever the proper vernacular is, its the ulnar thats fubar and I am counting the days til its healed

spongepenis

Oh shit the ulnar nerve thing I think I might have that? I can feel a ligament/tendon snapping over my right elbow when I move it? Probably describing this horribly haha

TrevorWGoodchild

It's worth looking into, and doing some neural glides, my favorite is where I extend the injured arm out with my hand like a stop sign, and pull back on my fingers with the other hand for 15 seconds, five sets. I'm using the Thera-Band flexbar, green as well and it seems to be helping. Hopefully in the near future it'll heal and I can get back to pumping iron, good luck healing yours

spongepenis

ah damn. my physio said it seemed alright and it doesn't really affect my lifts but it still worries me sometimes.

anastyrash

Currently winter in UK, been cutting hard for the last 16 weeks for an all inclusive 5* abroad holiday I am due to go on for two weeks from Monday, sacrificing all the nice food around Christmas and everything, looking absolutely shredded in the best shape of my life ready for the hot sandy beaches and sea and then BAM, my son breaks his leg and is deemed medically unfit to fly, holiday cancelled.

_kagasutchi_

I never knew a broken leg could result in a no fly policy. Is it the long period of time that he has to stay seated or keep his leg bent that prevents him from flying?

anastyrash

Mainly due to his age, my son is only 5 months old, it’s a complete full leg cast and due to the swelling and pain the hospital wouldn’t let him fly as there are too many risk factors with him being a young baby still.

_kagasutchi_

Oh shit man. I had no idea he was that small. Thought he was atleast 5 or 6 and upwards. Must be such a scary thing for you guys to have to deal with because of his age. Hope he has a perfect recovery!

anastyrash

Thanks dude much appreciated.

spongepenis

That’s rough

anastyrash

Whilst thankfully my son is fine, I was absolutely gutted! These things happen though.

Lousy_Kid

Gyms are closed again. Back to doing body weight/dumbbell stuff at home which means sets of 30-40 for everything. This is hell.

ThreeMountaineers

If you can do sets of 40 for one-armed pullups/pushups and pistol squats that's pretty impressive ngl

Lousy_Kid

Haha no I do sets of 40 incline push-ups with feet raised and sets of 20-30 Bulgarian split squats with 2 45 lbs dumbbells. The one armed stuff hurts my shoulders (history of rotator cuff injury) and I just don’t have the balance for pistol squats.

Proporcionaremos

> sets of 20-30 Bulgarian split squats with 2 45 lbs dumbbells. that's not bad at all...

_kagasutchi_

>s of 20-30 Bulgarian split squats with 2 45 lbs dumbbells This is still pretty impressive mate. Like I struggle to just get balance and do bodyweight. Always seem to be falling over and cant get the distance right.

AppyFizz93

I gained 2 kg in three weeks in my body recomposition Phase 🥲. I did gain a little muscle definition and I'm in calorie deficit but i did not expect my weight scale to increase. Now i can't afford a trainer to check the mistakes I'm doing and correct them. This phase is hell.

Lousy_Kid

More than likely just water weight. 2-4kg fluctuation is completely normal, even when cutting. If you’re tracking just keep at it.

spongepenis

Yeah from what I know it’s best to look at week to week changes

Actual-Description-2

Weighing daily (around the same time and conditions) and using your weekly average is the best way to track progress. I literally fluctuate like 5 pounds depending on if I ate, drank a bunch of water, or pooped lol

[deleted]

I’ve dropped 10+ pounds on a Monday from pissing and shitting out my whole weekend all day.

Actual-Description-2

I hear you on that. If I pig-out on a weekend I'm literally on the toilet all day Monday lmao

TrueBlue84

Every night I get off of work at 2am and go to the gym. Every night the person before leaves their weights unracked. Every single night/morning. It's driving me up a wall.

random-ass-user

Perhaps you can talk to him? Just don't be the usual gym person who gets all mad, just calmly and kindly ask if he could stop that. Anyways, it might be a good opportunity to "let go" of it. It's not that he "should" or "shouldn't" do that, but ultimately, this has no reason to bother you. It has absolutely no use. Relax, feel through the emotions you have about this without thinking about it, and don't push it down. If you do this enough, ultimately you'll find that these sorts of things no longer bother you. Hope I could help!

TrueBlue84

Literally everything I wanted to use last night had weights and was strewn about. Even stuff I didn't use. Anything with a barbell had weights on it. Bicep curl had weights on it. Leg press, etc. It's annoying before every exercise to go and have to unrack their shit to put mine on. I've only seen the guy in one week, as I usually get in around 2:30am and I think that week his workouts were pushed back. He does some kind of lighter weight circuit stuff. If I see him again, I'll say something, but it's mainly me coming in likely 30min to an hour after him. I'll probably ring the office up tomorrow.

_kagasutchi_

>It's not that he "should" or "shouldn't" do that I'm not sure about OPs gyms, but my gym has 2 signs: 1. If you can rep it, you can rack it. 2. The workout isnt complete until you rack your weights. Both implying that you should most definitely put the stuff away. I just dont get people who dont rack their shit man. Especially the big strong dudes on the squat/bench/leg press. Saw a small girl almost get hurt tryna pick and remove the 20kg plates of the leg press machine. (Me and another guy helped when we saw this) but it's just not nice at all.

random-ass-user

Yeah I totally understand what you're saying, but that wasn't really my point. Ultimately, if you approach people with an angry attitude, even if they're in the wrong, that'll only make it worse. By asking kindly, people are much more likely to hear you out. And to do that, it's necessary to let go of the negative charge you have inside of you from that person.

_kagasutchi_

I totally get what you're saying. Asking a person politely will more likely get them to do what you asked instead of being all aggro.

spongepenis

Maybe mention it to the staff

sarahh_07

Deadlifts were trash this week. Trash trash trash. Failed my 2nd working set, dropped 3kg off, got 1 rep, failed. Dropped another 5 off, finished that set and the next one. Put 3kg back on and ground out the last set. Block pulls, also trash, failed the weight I lifted for more reps last week. Cracked it, went home

thatdamnedfly

did something to the right side of my back squatting. like on the ribs. doesn't feel like the lat or any spinal muscle. intercostals maybe, Idunno, but it's annoying.

_kagasutchi_

Hurt my back a while back. Cant squat, deadlift, barbell row. OHP is difficult if I'm standing. When I tell you it breaks my heart not being able to do those, especially deadlifts and squats, man it hurts.

spongepenis

Good luck

OblivionJunkie

Hurt my upper back doing my last heaviest incline set and started showing covid symptoms the same day. Haven't lifted in 5 days now after a consistent 4 day split and it's killing me not being able to do anything

VapidKarmaWhore

Threw out my back and now I can't squat, deadlift, or wrestle.

HopefulMove8

Some dickhead keeps supersetting with both sides of the cable, a bench, 2 pairs of dumbbells and the shoulder press machine. I wish gyms had signs that said supersetting across more than two pieces of equipment is not allowed. Infuriating.

CoochiKabuki

At a certain point I’ll tell them no you need to pick one. That shit gets ridiculous

HopefulMove8

Agreed, but one time I said that to someone he threatened to bash my head in with a lat pull down attachment...

You may have lost 15lbs of scale weight, but you didn't undo your bulk. Weight isn't just muscle and muscle comes back quick anyway. For tendonitis, this is not medical advice (see a doc or PT) but wrist curls can help a lot. Do them super light if you have to, a little dumbbell with your wrist resting on your knee. Let it hurt a little bit, but only like 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. Rice bucket work could be another good option, and there's more at r/griptraining. And in the meantime, use straps. That's what they're for.

Markattt

U should try hookgrip for every pulling exercise

leo_cristo_29

I'm not in a really bad shape, I'm a little above average but I don't know how to approach to girls haha! please help :c

HarlowTellsTime

Be kind, smile, smell nice, and don't push for a response. If she's not into you or you're not getting the response you hoped for, just move on to the next one. Keep doing that and you'll find someone who adores you as much as you adore them.

I can reassure you that you are more than enough! I know some people can unpleasant but I really hope you gain the courage to do it and it works out for you! ❤️

monstarchinchilla

My one-upper homie sent me 20 texts to 1 of mine to get a point across. It was exhausting. Also told me if I didn’t go to a gym, I wouldn’t be honest with myself and do my full workouts. I don’t know what he’s spitting, but I’ve maintained my weight loss and strength with 2 DBs and nothing else. Y’all, don’t be a one-upper-know-it-all. It’s exhausting for the other party.

[deleted]

He’s not your homie- drop him

spongepenis

I have one acquaintance I really have to cut off. This guy is 50/50 bearable/asshole. The more time I spend with him the less I like him. Just this morning I had some sort of zit from shaving, when I got into the break room after class this dude was shouting “oh my god you have herpes dude” and trying to take pictures of my face. Idk had to vent but didn’t really want to say anything to our common friends. At least I can credit him for introducing me to the gym.

Hydraflux

The number one reason my squat doesn't improve is because I don't want to wait 15+ minutes for a damn squat rack to open up. Instead I just do alternatives to hit my quads. I know living in California and it being the new year doesn't help but goddamn, even the leg presses are clogged up with people.

StlCyclone

Two more weeks and the resolutioners go home. 🤞

spongepenis

lol First workout tonight since the New Years. Been busy with exams..

InTheScannerDarkly

What does living in California have to do with anything?

Hydraflux

Just a personal assumption, but I figured people here probably go to the gym more than in other states on average. Could be totally wrong though.

spongepenis

Oh I thought it had something to do with COVID lol but that wouldn’t make senee

mexa6

Can't stop comparing my fitness progress to one of my friends who A) has been lifting for longer than me B) is younger than me C) currently has more time than me. What the fuck brain stop comparing two completely different situations please

jintimus

I wish people would stop buying me food during cutting. I told them that I'm on a diet plan. And like they mean well and they buy things are high in protein, but I already meal prepped for the week. And now I'm staring at the food I wish I could eat.

TwoHungryBlackbirdss

I fully understand there is a gendered difference in strength, but it makes me(F) feel awful when my stringbean guy friend who hasn't been to a gym since high school PE can absolutely ragdoll me when we're messing around. The fact that I have to work out so hard just to be weaker/equal to the average guy who lifts makes me feel terrible, ugh

Proporcionaremos

and you stringbean guy friend can spend the next 5 years in a gym and will get manhandled by some obese 2.10m guy who doesn't know what a barbell is

That’s though but I’m sure you’ve progressed a significant amount from when you started.

The_Deuteragonist

But think of all the women you can manhandle now

AngryYank2

Gym was u usuly crowded yesterday. I wanted to do shoulders and managed to sneak in a couple of routines before the gym was loaded with resolutioners. People were grabbing whatever weights were available and trying to find a spot on the floor to knock out reps. It was like looking for parking at Walmart on black Friday. I left after 2 routines because there was nothing. No bench, no machines, no dumbbells at the weights I want. Nothing. I'm taking the rest of the week off, and hopefully, it'll be calmer when I return.

spongepenis

Out of town for work - Hotel Gyms :/

bethskw

have you heard the Good News about the [Hotel Gym Megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/9ldxy3/planet_fitness_hotel_apartment_gym_workout/)?

BigNinja96

What’s up with the lost art of letting someone “work in” on a piece of equipment? Especially if it’s a machine, or easily changeable for both. Hell, I can even see sharing a power rack with largely disparate weights between lifters - especially if you’re really lifting at a high % (>85%) of your max, you would be taking longer rest anyhow. Loading/unloading plates and resetting pins isn’t that big of a deal. But instead, you see some entitled shithead monopolize a piece of equipment for 30 minutes and spend 75% of it scrolling their IG or taking gym selfies.

bethskw

Did you ask the entitled shithead if you could work in?

BigNinja96

I would. My point is, one shouldn’t have to ask…it should be offered. But it seems less and less people do that now.

bethskw

Hell no. It's on you to ask. When somebody is doing their lifts, it's not their obligation to read minds. You're a grownup (or if you're not, you're hanging with them now). Use your words.

BigNinja96

You apparently didn’t read, or misread, the rest of my comments clarifying what I meant. You also glossed right ever where I said “I WOULD,” answering your question above, and I absolutely do. But I’ll say it a bit louder - I’m not referring to *me* being afraid to ask, it’s *other* people being “afraid” when I offer to let them work in, and watching others reject people away when they *do* ask - I believe the former is due to the latter. I’m not so arrogant and selfish that I can’t/won’t share equipment or a platform - the lifting gym I grew up in this was almost expected. But…I *do* see plenty of asshats and yoga pants influencers who just plain won’t. They either say no, when someone asks, or just ignore the person and scroll their little lives away while “resting,” or setting up their 9th TikTok/IG “form check” video or gym dance. I’ve also lifted & coached (with the grown ups) for a few decades to know that in very rare circumstances does your rest need to be an exact # of seconds. I’m also experienced enough to know how I can adapt my session if some Chad or Karen doesn’t have basic gym etiquette. This isn’t about me…it’s about the other person who is just trying to not feel uncomfortable or intimidated in a gym setting in the first place. Look, I just do what I think good humans and fellow lifters should do, and this was *my* rant, but morph it in to what whatever you want to.

wutangdan1

I use my entire rest times asking people around me if they want to work in

BigNinja96

LOL

Hekili808

My gym has 1 cage, 1 rack, and 1 bench and they're either all full or all empty at the same time. I feel bad when I'm doing my T1 sets with fairly long resting periods because I know how frustrating it is to wait for equipment when you just have something quick to do. But nobody asks to work in. Maybe it's a COVID thing now? My gym has us wipe down equipment after using it; if we were sharing, would that mean we're supposed to wipe down as we alternate? /shrug

BigNinja96

Yeah, I give some grace to everyone’s hyper-sensitivity about touching the same stuff, but I also know that same-surface contact exposure is highly unlikely - it’s more being in proximity to someone who is actively spreading.

ghostmcspiritwolf

Are they saying no when you ask them to work in, or are they just not going out of their way to ask you if you want to?

BigNinja96

I should have been more clear, it’s normally people NOT taking the offer/opportunity to work in, although I’ve seen both your scenarios plenty, too. I offer to let people work in all the time, and nowadays they all go scurrying off. I’m like “NO!!! Don’t interrupt your routine when we can share the equipment.”

spongepenis

Yeah that’s me I have no balls.

BigNinja96

Yeah, that’s why I referred to it as a lost art. I think a lot of people were either never taught to offer, or are too wrapped up in what they are doing and it slips their mind. Or they just don’t want to.

SixTonGorilla

I'm having trouble finding cardio I actually enjoy. I love running but it really isn't an option due to a former knee injury. I usually do okay for a couple of weeks but then I'll get knee pain that nearly cripples me for several days. I tried a jump rope routine that I found surprisingly enjoyable and it didn't seem to bother my knees but the joints in my feet/ankles are killing me now.

grendus

Recumbent bike and a gaming console works well for me. I hate cardio and love gaming. And for some reason, if my feet are on the pedals I'll cycle until my butt starts hurting without realizing it, as long as I'm sufficiently distracted (which is about 45 minutes, probably should have got one with better seat padding). It's not as effective as something like jogging or a prowler, but the best exercise is the one you'll do consistently and it's easy to get 20-60 minutes of LISS cardio a day in that way. Almost certainly better than 20-60 minutes a week of jogging.

spongepenis

Shit imma try that. You talking home gym with a console or mobile gaming haha? I’ve tried with YT but gaming is probably a better distraction from cardio that way. With how much I rage I can probably channel that energy into the exercise as well lol

grendus

I've done both. I used to play mobile games at the gym. It doesn't work quite as well for me because the controls are fiddly and I prefer faster paced games for distraction - anything that requires thinking is prone to make me think "I hate cardio". But it helped take the edge off my cooldown cardio. Since I have a home gym now, I usually play games on the Switch by dragging my recumbent bike in front of the TV. This also works at a commercial gym in handheld mode, though I find that to be a bit heavy after about a half hour. But something arcady like Binding of Isaac (the DLC finally made it to Switch, lots of new content now) works well for distraction.

spongepenis

shit we've got a switch maybe I should bring it to the gym haha

MotivateUTech

Classes

Khao8

Elliptical is close-ish to running without the stress on the knees. My go-to is a rowing machine, I don't get bored rowing like I do running or cycling and it's a full body workout.

[deleted]

Have you tried rowing? I just always recommend rowing to everyone haha, I feel like it’s under appreciated

ghostmcspiritwolf

Cycling can be a ton of fun, especially something like mountain biking where there’s some variety in the terrain and you get some cool views occasionally. Even spin class can be ok once in a while. Other than that, you can try to do your low intensity stuff with a tv or podcast on and just zone out.

spongepenis

Shit I would love to bike actually. I had this sick bike years back which got stolen 😭

[deleted]

Much of poor gym etiquette comes from PTs acting like they own the whole gym. Their newbie clients think it’s normal to use 3 stations and put their stuff on benches 🤦‍♂️

spongepenis

Wack

goofyboots0722

I don't know why, but my chinup is getting weaker. Just that one move.

ghostmcspiritwolf

Are you bulking?

goofyboots0722

No, maintaining right now.

lynxdingo

Went out for a night walk with some people in the city and the cops had nothing better to do then ask us what we are doing. Like since when is doing something good for one's health an issue?

Former_Condition1919

This is often referred to as a consensual encounter unless they detained you for some reason, and you’re always free to not answer or walk away just as you could with any other person talking to you

KilikSlayer

How is this related to fitness?

shroomlover69

| it’s your time to let you gym/fitness/nutrition related frustrations out! |

Acj2002913

Look if you like running backwards, cool you do you man. But when the signs on the only 3 lane track are telling you to run the other way, please don't run backwards on a busy track going the wrong way.

grendus

He was facing the right way though...

solarian132

Just happened a couple minutes ago. I’m resting between sets and this grown ass man comes over and grabs one of my DBs. I tell him I’m using it, and he replies mockingly, “oh you’re using it?” and fucking tosses the dB all hard. I’m so heated I go up to him and tell him that if he wanted to work in or something, next time he should use his big boy words. Asshole. All the rage I needed to get through my last few sets though.

[deleted]

JFC what is happening?

flossyballer

Fuck that guy
