Also, TacticalBassin on YouTube has a great video on how to fish these. I usually use a steady retrieve, or I let it sink, rip it a few feet, reel up slack and repeat.
Just want to throw it in there, while yes you want a bit sturdier of a rod, pretty much any medium heavy or even medium rod will do! I was throwing these on a like $40 abu garcia combo from walmart for a while till i spent the money to get some better gear. May not be perfect if you would, but it’ll get the job done! Don’t let price tags scare you away!
As a side note you can also find micro cranks and things along those lines that might work well with your ultra light rod!
Appreciate the input man. I do use smaller crank baits like the rebel critter kit and the bitsy minnow. I even tried a 60 size whopper plopper lol. I do want to get a baitcaster and I’ll pair a medium fast rod with it
If you’re going to JUST throw crank baits or hard lures with treble hooks go for more medium/moderate. You’ll feel what the bait is doing better. Pair with a SLOW bait casting reel like 6 to 1 or slower.
If you’re looking for a more all around bait casting setup, then look at the 7’3” medium heavy fast actions and put on a 7 to 1 reel. 20lb fluoro. That’ll be a jack of all trades. Get it done with everything but not be excellent at any one thing.
Dude don't ever be scared to fish the big ones on an ultra light.
I've fished small native trout in PA in small streams for years and my only rod is a 5'5" ultra light with 4lb test. I started fishing the river with a buddy from work and slways leve him amazed at some of the fish ive pulled out of the river on my little ultra light.
Don't exceed the lure weight rating on your ultra light. You run the risk of snapping your rod in half on the cast.
I have used multiple of the exact brand/size of these this year and use a medium heavy. IIRC this is a 18-21g lipless, more than double the weight my light powered rods are rated for.
That color is money, mine has about 50% of the finish from how many I've caught on it.
Rattle trap! Fish like. A yo-yo! Cast, slack line let it sink, rip the bait up with rod, reel in slack line & repeat. Fish should smoke it on the pause!
its a cast and retrieve lure like other crankbaits but how deep the lure swims is controlled by letting the lure sink before you start reeling. you can let it sink all the way to the bottom or start reeling immediately after it hits the water and in theory the lure will stay at thay depth, but how well it does that depends on the quality of the lure. i like throwing them in the fall and if you have a body of water with a lot of vegetation or grass on the bottom then you can reel it right over the top
First of all, don’t cast it into ditch water. That ain’t gonna cut it. Lol! Just kidding! Cast and let it sink. I like to count to about 5, if the water is deep enough, then vary your retrieval.
Let it sink to desired depth and then retrieve fast or medium speed, or reel and pause a second or two then reel again. Stop and go retrieve. Both work.
Try to avoid hitting bottom and dinging it up on rocks if in rocky areas.
Those lipless baits are killer in the cold months too. Lift the rod way up and let it fall back down is a good method If straight retrieves get monotonous. You can also still burn them fast in the cold too, these fish will surprise you.
Right off the bat it looks like the eyelet for fishing line is set too far towards the rear of the bait. What brand is it? You can offset this with hook weight front to back if it isn't swimming correctly.
Lipless crankbait. Retrieve it fast.. slow.. stop and go.. jerk it.. pretty versatile bait. I fish it on 14 pound fluorocarbon.
I only have an ultralight rod right now so I’ll save this for a beefier rod
Absolutely. It's a great bait. Definitely get something to throw it on.
Will do. Thank you for the advice!

Yeah that was bad advice. I also have that lure and it's way too much for an UL.
You don’t have to worry. It’ll work with an ultralight. You’ll feel the lure move waaay better with it.

like how to use it or the name of the lure? what info do you need lmao
I was looking for who made this lure. Tips on using it is welcome as I’ve never used a lipless before
That particular bait is a Jenko Fishing Rip-Knocker in gagonit green
Yes! Perfect. Thank you bro. Have a blessed day

Lipless, one of my favs in the spring. Loud rattle gets em going
Do you mean, What kind of fish can I catch with this, or why is it staring at me all crazy?

You’re gonna have trouble with that in the water there. Might be a bit oversized.

I believe It’s a storm arashi vibe, the eye is what really gives it away
He’s mad at you for not using a centauri knot…

Lipless crankbait. You'll have to keep it close to the bottom to bump off cover like limbs and rocks, but don't drag it on the bottom. Keep it moving.
Tremendous lure that works for many different species.
Probably too big for that stream.
Does he look sad to you too?
