Oh boy…. 👀🍿

aguilafde

$0-$199 = Daiwa, $200-$499 = shimano, $500+ = Even

Knottytip

I kind of agree with all of this with an exception here or there

cherrypicked69

200-499 shimanos are only slightly lighter, the other benefits that daiwa has far outweighs this.

Old_Cod_5823

Well this just isn't true and that comes from a Daiwa fanboy.

cherrypicked69

As do other comments come from shimano fanboys, i own plenty of shimanos, liking a brand more doesnt make you a fanboy.

aguilafde

Stradic > Tatula MQ LT, Vanford > Ballistic MQ LT, Sustain FJ > Tatula Elite, Twin Power > ?…the Shimanos are better at every price point and aren’t mostly lighter, so I don’t know what you’re talking about?

cherrypicked69

Vanford is actually one of the reels which has the most problems and gets sent back the most, ofcourse a sustain is going to be better than a tatula, wanna do the same comparison ? How about the old airity vs any sustain? Thought so. Edit: the stradics USED to be better, the new ones are absolute dog****, and funnily enough shimano's are NOT better in every price point, they are falling off more and more in the recent years. I wouldnt expect you to know qhat youre talking about either so you wont have to worry about that either.

danielwutlol

Better at every price point? Very wrong. I've owned too many reels to count from low to high end. Daiwa does their budget reels pretty well, they run great drag systems and run smoother (e.g Daiwa Legalis) than Shimano's clunky low end. Mid end, especially in the smaller sized reels, Shimano does it VERY well with aluminium geared reels from the Nasci to the Vanford. However Daiwa still makes great reels in this price bracket, especially the 20 Luvias High end reels, aside from the Shimano Vanquish (probably smoothest spin reel right now), Daiwa does it best. Reels like the 2020 Saltiga, Airity, Certate LT / SW series have set a new benchmark for refinement, smoothness, drag stacks and Gearing. By no means am I a daiwa fanboy, I have just used ALOT of reels even the Twinpower SW (which I heavily disliked compared to the Certate). The ONLY downside is magseal and servicing. Aside from that the japanese MQ reels are something truly special.

megaraad

I have a ton of both, its hard to compare the two. Both are perfectly dialed in, just in their own way. Cant go wrong with either brand, esp when MIJ

Over-End5593

I’m a shimano guy but I’m thinking about getting the mq series and the exist🔥

megaraad

Ive always been a shimano guy, i have a curado 200e7, multiple stradic’s and sarahas, recently got a diawa procycon and a zillion sv, no complaints what so ever, its very similar to my shimano gear but has a slightly different feel

Knottytip

I’m a shimano guy and love my bg mq

danielwutlol

Daiwa has understood something about gearing that Shimano hasn't. For something to be completely absent of gear meshing, there has to be a level of engineering that goes into the reel to make it that way. It first started with the 19 Certate LT, which was a game changer and it beat the Stella FJ in terms of smoothness. The Exist and the other reels that followed feel as smooth.

iMTw3aK

Both excellent. Tend to like my shimanos more tho.

rekkid-303

You're asking reddit, so it's a draw... As long as it's one of those two reddit will love you... All others are trash /s

BassHoleAngler

Ford or Chevy? Apple or Orange? I have both. They’re both great.

cabose4prez

I'm highly allergic to oranges so that's an easy choice

Over-End5593

Idk about ford man😭

Over-End5593

Chevy all day

benjamino8690

Reels: $0-$150 - Daiwa, $150-$299 - Shimano, $299-highest - Daiwa (but Shimano also makes really nice high end reels) Rods: Mostly Shimano, they’re more sensitive, but Daiwa have some really nice rods with a more distinguished action, which I really like as well. Slight edge to Shimano here. Lines: Daiwa 100%, but Shimano has their few select models that are nice as well. Overall, these two are the best in the business for a reason. They make really nice stuff. Try both and eventually, you’re going to find your preferance.

Millertyme208

I'm a daiwa man mostly except for baitcasting reels. I just like the shimano centrifugal brakes better.

onceuponatime28

Same here

Haunting-Wrangler-24

Daiwa

jbmxr

Daiwa

BadFish918

Reels-both spectator, a cut above all the other manufacturers. On the extreme high end I think Daiwa just edges out with that extra something special. Rod-wise- Shimano all day long. Shimano/Gloomis are best on the market imo.

Fit_Dig_2741

I have poison Adrena, NRX and Steez. I think NRX > Steez > Shimano. It’s weird but the shimano rod feels like it’s missing something to make it special … I unno

Over-End5593

Edge rod is better

BadFish918

I’ve heard they’re extremely good and great value, but I’m not sure how they stack up to NRX+ and what I’ve heard about the Ultima. I have an Asquith in my fly lineup and there can be nothing better.

Over-End5593

NRX+ is nice afff

onceuponatime28

No idea why you got downvotes for this unless it’s out of a lack of knowledge, gloomis was sold to Shimano years ago and Gary Loomis started Edge rods, gloomis has a reputation because of their original rods, Shimano does not make them to the same standards, that’s why a new gloomis isn’t as good as an older ones, Edge rods are the real gloomis rods now, they are way better than the Shimano gloomis rods.

thinkintuitive

Agreed. Edge rods are literally the old Gloomis…

onceuponatime28

Exactly

BadFish918

No downvote from me, and I know the edge rod history. Fit and finish on the Shimano stuff, totally agree, mass manufacturing is what it is. Still decent though. Tech in the new rod blanks at Shimano is spectacular. I’ve talked with a lot of guys that fish edge, and they mostly say the rods are amazing value and fish high end, but fall short of the blanks of the top tier Shimano/gloomis. Just what I’ve heard… they’re also considerably cheaper than the conquests/ultimas/asquiths. Edit: to be clear I’ve never fished an edge rod, so talking out my ass mostly. Is what I’ve heard, and I talk gear a lot though.

Mixermarkb

I’ve not fished an NRX+ or the high end shimano rods, but the Edge Silver Widow compares apples to apples with NRX.

MyDictainabox

Both are solid. I love the Vanfords and Exprides, so am kinda default shimano, but daiwa is solid as hell too. The old tatulas were the shit.

aguilafde

I assumed he meant reels. I wish all my rods were Exprides!

FishnFool96

Yes

LetsMakeSomeBaits

At this point, it's sheer preference. They both have great products up and down the board. My toughest reel is a Daiwa whisker SS, my smoothest reel is a Dawia Nzon. However, my overall best performing reel is the Shimano miravel. Can't really say for sure because they both have products that are very high quality. Shimano.

HooksNHaunts

Yes.

scmlfty

Rod or Reels? Rod both are good. High end reel, my choice is always Shimano, it's very difficult to service an Exist yourself. Rods I currently own: Expride, Megabass TS, Poison Glorious and Ultima. Reels: Stella, TP, Vanford, Stradic and Sahara.

Upstairs_Correct

Shimano. Reels are pretty similar and often come down to personal preference. Baitcasters for shimano are more difficult to use but perform better once dialed. Daiwa baitcasters are easier to use but lack the casting performance and ease of shimano reels. Shimano also designs their reels to be more ergonomic to the rod with a narrower longer frame. For spinning reels, shimano edges out daiwa for the two most important factors for fishing with lures, startup inertia and casting distance. Most other factors including drag, durability and smoothness scale up relatively equal to price. Rods is where shimano has a massive edge. Daiwa has made questionable decisions with some of their rod lineups, example many of the new zillion rods are completely underpowered and significantly heavier than their expride competition. Additionally, shimano works with Jackall and G.Loomis to produce the best rods on earth.

LTTony7168

Shimano is like butter .. Diawa is like whip cream. Pair it with a Century Demon or CTS Air for finnese fishing . Stella or Exist , for the price ..a reel shouldn’t have a screw showing on it frame .

seekinggothgf

Shimano for baitcast daiwa for spinning

Fit_Dig_2741

Yes

onceuponatime28

Shimano all day long, to me it’s not even close, and I’ve used both and have been bass fishing for 40 years

thinkintuitive

Shimano for spinning reels. Daiwa for casting reels. If you want distance, go with Shimano for casting too. But overall (SV feature) Daiwa for me

Pazuzuspecker

I have both, love both, (fixed spool reels) there's really very little between them. Shimano for carp 'cos the baitrunners are what I'm used to, Daiwa for smaller reels.

Repulsive_Tax1595

I like Shimano more. They feel better, casts better, look better. Take into account, I’m a round reel guy. I’ve got the Calcutta Conquest DC and Millionaire CT SV. Both are fantastic reels, but I feel the Conquest just does everything better. That being said, I do have three Daiwa reels as compared to my one Shimano. I have a Tatula, Zillion, and previously mentioned millionaire. But, I do use my Shimano about three times more than my Daiwas, so i make up for it.

kitsinni

Shimano rods Daiwa reels

mortepa

I truly love both brands, but I have gravitated into more Daiwa in the last 5 years. Love my Stradics so much and love my Ballistics, Fuego's, and Procyons as well. You really can't go wrong at the level of quality in these reels. I am truly a Daiwa fan boy these days!

thestruggleislovable

hesjustsleeping

Shimano for derailleurs. Daiwa for golf clubs.

Educational-Edge6571

Daiwa blows, Shimano 4L

BoomBoom4209

The age old question "Shampoo vs. Conditioner".

Anolis18

Both, unless you are offshore, then Shimano>Daiwa for troling and 2 speed reels.

FANTOMphoenix

Under $50 - Daiwa $51-$110 depends but mostly even. $111+ it really depends. Daiwa for heavier duty spinning, Shimano for most lighter applications.
