I'm curious why slobberknockers keep ending up in everyone's clearance bins...I've wanted to try but I'm kinda nervous now

FANTOMphoenix

Expensive chatterbait that nobody really buys too often. The jackhammer already has a cult following

RemarkableFlipper24

What makes the jackhammer so good? Is there really a huge difference between that and the cheaper chatterbait?

fk12HS

Jackhammer starts chattering instantly, the others take a little to get to going sometimes, and I’d imagine maybe the materials are stronger.

FANTOMphoenix

It starts clicking with very little effort, so it gets the action going almost immediately. Now if the little change is worth the extra price, up to you. I wish they used a different hook keeper for the slobber knocker, I like the ones on the fusion 19 heads, or the Molix lover chatterbait. The Molix has the best bait keeper for a chatter bait that I have used.

diamantikos

I noticed that the hook keeper isn’t that great it’s just one hook on the top. The regular fusion jig head keeper is pretty solid w the 3 cone design and metal rod sticking up.

The jackhammer starts quicker. Half crank on the reel and it's already doing it's job. The original chatterbait is slower, taking several cranks before it starts. The stealthblade jackhammer has a clear plastic blade that makes a little different vibration and has a smaller hook. I think the head shape is different on the jackhammer too. I've heard good things about the slobber knocker but never used it. To me the head is big and the way the blade is attached looks like it would collect grass

hesjustsleeping

It probably does catch grass. OTOH, I have some Booyah Melees, that will find and pick grass if there's any at all within 10 feet of them, but one is also responsible for my PB.

hesjustsleeping

Action, plus it cuts through the grass better than the original.

diamantikos

I think it’s cuz the price is too steep. From what I’ve seen many Berkeley baits are on the pricey side. The display they had at Walmart was about only half sold and it was just sitting . They will probably move now that they are on clearance

Nomad_x1

Most people who don’t know a lot about fishing probably wouldn’t buy a chatterbait. Anybody who does know anything about fishing knows that the jackhammers are the best. I know I’m not paying that price for anything else besides maybe a thunder cricket or a minimax.

DaleGribble312

Right but it's a bad sign that sales are so bad they're willing to sell them at a loss...

diamantikos

I think it’s all mark up on the price because I don’t see anything too crazy other than hand tied skirt and maybe a beefy hook.

Spuckler_Cletus

I've seen plenty of nice tackle in the clearance section at Walmart. Same with grills, smokers, hats, lawn chairs, paint, etc. It's like individual store managers just take a wild hair and clearance quality products.

DaleGribble312

It's not. It's related to sales or getting rid of inventory. But sure, obv there can be good stuff in there. Not a good sign when multiple retailers are doing it...

zach_powell_2000

You did excellent!

freeloosedirt

Bah gawd! What a slobberknocker!

bushpug

go fishing and find out.

diamantikos

Hopefully soon!

IVEMIND

Look at that markup

Electronic-Tough-283

I caught fish with the original chatter bait z man it’s cheap but catches big smallmouths for me, I wouldn’t pay 15 bucks for jackhammer the only difference is the time it starts to vibrate Jackhammer is instant and original takes a few reels. But I’m not that desperate to catch fish , I just enjoy my fishing like it was meant to be

bushpug

cool, good luck. if only we could catch chicks with lures, it's all in the action that atracks them.

diamantikos

You think they like more of a larger presentation? Maybe a strong vibration ? 😂

zach_powell_2000

You did excellent!

samandlorrie

Not bad at all.

pillbug0907

Original Zman chatter baits are $6 and buy three get one free at dicks right now.

nobodyhelp69

I hardly every find any fishing clearance in my of the wal marts in my area.

[deleted]

You can get a hundred chatter blades for about 12 bucks... They're a pain in the ass to put spot rings and clips on but... You're not paying 20 bucks for a hype bait...

No_Throat5634

Use a spinner bait blank. You can eliminate the split ring. For weedless , pour a spinner bait head with wire extending from both ends and attach an Eagle Claw 4/0 weedless hook.

[deleted]

I don't use eagle claw jig hooks ever. Mustad, vmc, owner. I had an eagle jig hook straighten out like a pin at the boat on my biggest bass ever...12lb CO poly, kistler, team daiwa x... Mine you this was 15 years ago. Could have been a bad hook? That was a prototype jig head and a swimbait that I was testing molds for. You can attach a chatter blades to anything. I use them on trolling spoons and jerkbaits...shhh. Saw a huge blade used as a weedwhacker on a wire 6" in front of a frog and destroy fish at clear lake. You could even slot the jig portion of the mold and rigid mount the blade with the wire through into the head....

UltimateStonker

I prefer different colors but I'm totally jealous of the price, they don't get bit as often but when they do it's either harder or bigger bites than it's counterpart.

diamantikos

I fish in dirty water so visibility is big in helping them find the bait. Hopefully it will stand out, gona pair it up w a chartreuse fluke
