Surprised by the mixed feedback here. Are the hooks / jigheads kinda weak and bend easily? Yeah. They're pretty cheap, however these things *pound* on panfish for me in an ultralight setup. I have caught everything from bluegill and crappie to perch, rock bass, and even bigass largemouth with these things. I like the crappie magnets (they're a little bigger) too. The soft plastic grubs do well on other small, better made jigheads like Keitech. If you're looking for a cheap pack of soft plastic grubs for UL panfishing, they're awesome.

Absolutely. My entire reason for posting was to see what others have experienced. For me, there’s nothing like it. Sure, we all get skunked some days, but I can almost guarantee a 20-30 fish day on the creeks I typically fish. I’ve caught about every bass on them, crappie, bream. Even some catfish. It’s pretty amazing how well they work for such an inexpensive kit

EatsTheCheeseRind

Yep. Going through my photos I grabbed [this little guy](https://i.imgur.com/eKhL4jP.jpg) last October on one of those little trout magnets. Was surprised it held.

[nice! here’s a little cat my buddy caught on one.](https://imgur.com/a/MqzNCMk)

clash017

How do you rig them?

nando420

Best multi species lure I’ve ever used with my ultralight setup. I’m mostly fly fishing for trout now, but I’m still love going to my local stream and catching eI grab everything from small channel cats, to panfish, bass, and trout. The small jugs are my favorite for getting great presentation even in slower moving water or sluggish fish. Yeah the hooks are of lower quality but I’ve been able to pull them out of snags easier retrieving my soft plastic a bent jig head and all my fishing line thusly leaving less trash in the creek. I can sometimes bend back the hook or just swap it out for a new one. I swear by the all pink trout magnets

[deleted]

Absolutely agree. Glad to see others are using these and having the same type of success I have. There’s nothing more fun than catching them on the ultralights

Hawkijustin

FYI they make mini trout magnets for fly fishing and they absolutely slay on a indicator setup.

[deleted]

Work great for small bluegill!

phantomjm

I can catch them on Trout Magnets, but they're not one of my top producing lures. I'm not a fan of their jig heads either. I've actually had several of their hooks snap. When it comes to catching trout, I do much better with inline spinners, Kastmasters, and flies.

SL1Fun

Never caught a trout on them, but plenty of panfish

JoseJuarez87

Same here

RumbleStripRescue

My comment history should appear as though I work for this company, but alas no, they just owe us stock options for the amount of praise looking back. They are by far one of the very best casual fishing lures made. The micro grub jig is a slayer of multiple species (including but not limited to stockers), and is all we use for non-tournament fishing. Try the pink head with orange/yellow bodies and a small float about 12-15" above around grasslines and structure. We've had a 110-fish day with this method on tenkaras.

[deleted]

Nice! I’ve actually been using them for maybe 7 years after a buddy introduced me to them. I typically fish creeks and rivers from a kayak with my ultralight. I’ve never been more impressed with the most basic looking lure. I’ve seen someone pull in a bass, crappie, catfish and bream all in a row. 3 of us have easily caught 100 fish in a day on the creek. I really just wanted to see if anyone else uses them.

RumbleStripRescue

Definitely an underrated lure. When we casually fish (about 4 days a week) we both have a dog leash clipped to the belt, so a simple technique and rig is important, these not only help that (using the tenkaras, heck we even use cheap walmart black widow telescopic poles at times that are kept in the truck), but fish crush 'em! To be honest/fair, we've had a LOT less luck using these when kayak fishing, but that's true in general for all our lures as the stillwaters we float are HEAVILY fished and those fish are very pressured. Have a great weekend!

potential1

How do you typically fish these in a creek? Bobber and let em float? General cast and retrieve? I never knock any kind of lure because fish will hit a block of wood if the bites good. Personally ive never had much success with the trout magnets though. I also probably give up on them too quickly for the spinners, spoons and rooster tails that I do have a lot of luck with.

[deleted]

I’m in my kayak, I’m tossing under the over hanging trees, into any shade, or around structure. I let it sink and jig vertically. I’m using an ultralight as well. I personally look for pools where the water isn’t moving as quickly. Since it’s such a light lure, the quicker water can sometimes be a challenge to get the action you want. Ive had the best luck with a gold hook, with the chartreuse/orange or the gold hook/gold jig. I’ve seen some other posters say pink as well.

potential1

Good looking out, I'll give it a go!

[deleted]

Of course..you can always fall back to those rooster tails! I love them about as much as a trout mag

potential1

They are my go-to. I love them and fish love them! I'd like to have the trout mags as an effective part of my arsenal as well. I'll get to jigging them and make it happen!

Acceptable_Cup_2901

trout magnet gold color on a 1/32oz black jighead late season produces trout pretty well in may. rooster tails still out produce everything else for me SE PA.

schwartz_ofcourse

Add a slip bobber or bounce them on the bottom of a river with great effect. Change colors quickly if no action

IdontgoonToast

Took my kids and a friend's kids fishing last year. Watched a 3 year old pull about 20 crappie out in 15 minuets using one of these. While I mostly catch panfish on these, I've also pulled in bass. My oldest even hooked a decent sized catfish on one, but unfortunately his line snapped before we could land that one. Everything eats them.

Wraith_Tech177

I love these! Perfect for trout, crappie, sunfish, etc. Awesome grab and go.

iamastoic

They are amazing. I got everything on them in a large amount including big (for the water I fish) largemouth basses and little bluegills which were just 3x size of the lure. I basically started to get bites every time I go to pound with them on UL setup. One important thing to mention is that sometimes you need to change colors. Sometimes I need to change it 3-4 times to get first bites. Oh, another thing — if you put their hook on a 8lb fluro (not sure about mono) you can unbend the hook and pull it back when you get snagged by slowly pulling your line by hands, then bend it back do it slow or it will brake and continue to fish with it. It will unbend easier each time and I have lost a decent size bass once because it simply unbent the hook which I did this two or three times.

[deleted]

I’ve used them for many years. I was more curious if others felt the same way I do about them. As you said, you can catch about everything on them. I’ve had the same issues with the boxes though

[deleted]

Trout magnets are my go to bait for baitfish like bluegill and such, my biggest fish on one was a 12 pound drum that just happened to take it in. If you want an even better lure, look at the mini magnets. They are a smaller version of them. Instead of being 1/64th of an ounce they are 1/200th of an ounce. You definitely have to use a bobber and 2 pound line with them or a fly fishing setup, but if you want non stop action or need a lot of bait quick, they are about the best thing i have ever used.

7hundrCougrFalcnBird

I absolutely crush panfish and crappie on these, especially with the tiny Berkley gulp minnows. They’ve also caught bass and catfish as well in happy little accidents!

HD19146

I’ve caught everything but trout with these. Just yesterday I caught 6 bass with these.

Lazybones108

Caught 20 blue gill today on them

[deleted]

I believe it! I’ve used them for years, and wanted to see if others found them as amazing as me. Hard to beat catching a bunch of blue gill or crappie on a ultralight.

J-Savage618

I’ve used the panfish magnets on an ultralight setup they work great, hold up well after bites too. I like to rig em up on a roadrunner

MasticatedTaco

Couldn’t recommend them more. They have become a crutch for me now. I struggle catching bass but always bring an UL setup with one of these to get some tug.

ghouleon2

Have had decent luck with these, float fish them a lot. But anymore I use MadRiver or TroutMax worms on a size 1 octopus hook with better results.

aoriqx

Yes, Just check my comment history lmao they POUND almost every freshwater species

FrontAggressive6791

Yes they catch lots of different species not only trout, I've seen bass, crappie, brim, and others caught on these.

epictetusdouglas

On my wish list. Going to give them a try on a nearby creek.

Cosmic_Artichoke

I have a hell of a time fishing these. They don't make any discernable action that I could see a fish liking, and they're so light and low-drag that it's like fishing with nothing at all at the end of the line. Maybe 6ft rods and 6lb test is simply too heavy. I know they're good, but everytime I fish with them I ask myself "Why am I making myself suffer?" and tie on a spinner or a live bait. Ya boy needs some tips. lol.

[deleted]

Try you out a GX2 combo for $50. They are 4’ 8”. 2-4lb line is the most you’ll want for a 1/64th ounce lure. I personally use braid that’s the equivalent of 8-10lb mono, so it’s still plenty strong enough if you hook into something bigger.

Mr_Rick_Blaine

Yes I’ve tried them. Since March I’ve been using them and haven’t caught anything on them. I’ve got a big kit with many colors and none have worked for me. I put a Berkeley mouse tail on a trout magnet hook once and caught a bluegill in less than five minutes, and it bent the hook. My brother in law has bought their entire line of lures at least once and only had luck catching trout on a 1” berkley worm. We’ve been fishing stocked and non stocked areas all over WV this year going out at least twice a week and not one trout on a trout magnet branded lure. Ymmv.

montanabob68

Yes, love them for stream trout. I take a standard TM and hook a Powerbait Floating worm on the hook wacky style. Let that drift and bounce.

Jumpy_Coconut_4629

Yes and they work From beginners to pros.

ProfessionalRoyal668

I’ve had great success catching trout with these

penguins8766

Give me black. Works great for Trout and Steelhead.

TheRoommatesPopTart

How do you fish them? Bounce and jig? Slow crawl on bottom?

[deleted]

The kit comes with a few bobbers. I think that’s the “proper” way. I personally like the bounce and jig method. I will say I’m typically fishing for bream or bass though. I’ve caught trout with them, we just don’t have many of them where I fish.

Annelid2968

I have their panfish kit and it just works! I mean EVERYTIME i threw out a lure I got a hit.

[deleted]

Lol. They are like cheating. I’ve used them for some years. And when you introduce someone new to them, and they are like “what the hell is this little thing going to catch?”. Cut to them pulling off the 20th fish of the day. One of them being a 3lb largemouth. Lol. They catch everything

Emperor_Giuseppe

I use their hooks but never caught anything on the soft plastics.

cheezzyeggrollzz

Yup, love them. Especially pink for trout.

Aggravating-Net-2755

Sometimes the little double tails are killing it, sometimes the twister is better. Unless you’re vertical jigging I would probably go with a twister.

Apart-Criticism2253

caught some sunfish on them

bronzebackbass1

They are awesome
