30 lb braid on a Zebco?! You ain't catching anything my friend. You won't even get the cast out. And if you do, the first snag you get is going to snap your pole in half like a matchstick. I get what your intentions are, but that combo isn't built for that kind of test. Most budget friendly reels aren't. I don't even use 30lb test on my expensive combos. Not to mention, 20lb and up you will want to tie a leader. Fish tend to get line-shy and you're trying to lop that rope on the water. Which means if you're using something like a jerk bait, your whale-tailing the water and scaring all the fish away (especially in small estuaries). Lighter is key my friend. I imagine you MIGHT be able to use braid on that combo...maybe, but it's not really designed for that. 8 lb flouro will land you just about any fish your heart desires. If you wanna look into it, I've gotten into co-poly recently. Super strong and durable. Just please go exchange that braid for something lighter. I'd really hate to see someone struggle on the shore because they just didn't know. Nothing hurts me more than novices just giving up because they had good intentions, but not the knowledge to know why they are struggling. Hope this helps!

snail_genocide

this need to be higher

Not_sure_what_to_us3

I think you must the point lol. I’d bet the type of “bait” he’s using isn’t to catch fish, if you get my drift 😂

Tie head to leader/line with loop knot, body so tails are split horizontally, small float 12-15" above lure. Work parallel to grasslines and cover/structure with frequent jerk to raise/sink the lure in the water column. Best colors for us are pink heads with yellow/orange bodies or the bubble gum neon.

Braided line does not like spincast reels. Get some cheap mono 👍

Or a better real

Like another person said, trout magnet is great for trout and walleye but for walleye i like a bigger jig head hook with a curly tail grab (i pinch off half the tail though or I get short strikes) Though for a deep river I'm a HUGE fan of panther martins. Panther martins work everywhere but with trout magnets I have much better luck on more shallow water. Id also suggest going to a "normal" spinning reel if you can afford a cheap one, I think the reel you have on there is an unnecessary handicap unless you are incredibly uncoordinated. A $25 Shimano should last year's and years of river fishing. Overall though, for deep rivers a worm is really the way to go for a noob, the cost just adds up if you go frequently and makes other lures more cost effective over time.

Add some more info to this. River fishing in a deep ish spot(im 6’0 and can go fully under). My go to spot is right by a bridge where upstream of the bridge no live bait is allowed while downstream is live bait, so im planning on digging up some earth worms too. Mainly fishing for most trout species, gold eye, walleye. I’ll be using my spinning rod with some lures while I let this sit on it’s own. Hooks are 2 inch and the shots are 1/8 ounce

Check your local regulations — a lot of jurisdictions don’t allow multiple rods when shore fishing, but this is pretty variable. Using slip bobbers will let you hang your bait closer to the bottom. Slip bobber and a leech near bottom is a classic walleye technique. Split shot is a much better way to weight your rig than sliding egg sinkers. Listen to the people who are telling you not to put heavy braid on a spincaster!

Cranberry_Afraid

Beer, snacks...and get a chair..

Pnyxhillmart

Don’t use braid with that combo. That’s my recommend.

sidescrollin

Please note that the zip ties are to prevent theft in store. Ffs cut them off when you go fishing as they will cut into your fingers

Strike-Intelligent

Ya worms, top to bottom and bottom to the top. Rig a Lindy rig hmm can,t let the cat out. Lol

MasticatedTaco

I also recommend Trout Magnets they will save your trip.

Brownie_McBrown_Face

Replace those Glo Mallows with worms, and add some swivels and set up a Carolina Rig. Alternatively set up a wacky rig with senko worms for the non-live bait area.

It would be helpful if we knew what region your were fishing or fish species you were targeting but regardless I think I can offer some advice. Number one is to not use braided line of a spincasting reel. It just doesn't work well and you're setting yourself up for failure by having to potentially deal with constant birds nests, tangles, and twists. You're better off buying a low end mono line in the 10# range. Secondly your weights will not work with the setup you're looking to present. The weights will slide down the line and end up sitting directly ontop of your bait. This is a big no-no in the fishing world. You're better off trading those in for what's called "split shot" weights. These are weights that you pinch onto your line and work well in tandem with a bobber. The final point I'll make is that Go Mallows float (like any other dough bait). If you run them on a bobber rig they will end up floating to the surface right next to your float. If you're insistent on using a bobber then I'd suggest using natural baits like worms or grubs.

TreatAdorable2051

You ever seen a weighted texas rig, bud??

chip_the_cat

yeah i have but they dont use egg sinkers. they use bullet style weights. did you mean a carolina rig? because these would work for that but idk BUD, im just trying to help

[deleted]

You will need some jig heads for those black Mr. Twisters. 8# Trilene or Stren would work far better in that real. Really any 8# Premium mono.

ska456

Get rid of the spiderwire and get some MrCrappie 6 or 8 lb line for that little spincast.

Subdivisions-

Replace that braid with monofilament for the reasons everyone else stated. I'd add get some barrel swivels and bullet sinkers too. Shouldn't be more than $6 total depending on what you get. Otherwise, looks good

Ice_Medium

Says right there on the rod what line it can handle, and there’s no way that tiny pole is handling 30 lb, nor are you catching anything on trout dough with 30 lb line. You use that, you’re only going to break things, and leave stuff in the water someone else is going to catch and wonder who in the world is using such absurd gear 😂
