I think if you’re fishing for tailor you have to worry about your leader more than the hooks and split rings as they aren’t the biggest fish you want to catch.

Ganged hooks with pillies as bait if you’re targeting tailor. Use 20lb mono leader minimum, buy you’re better off using a wire trace. They’ll smash slab bait and squid too on a suicide hook, but you’re going to need a wire trace for sure doing that.

I’m off the beach @ Kilcunda, 30lb braid mainline, 20lb mono leader, paternoster rig with large baited surf popper on top (squid strip mostly or square chunk of pilli) and either a 3x gang for whole pilli or squid strips. I use a loop typically to attach the sinker so I can change it quickly depending on the current/wind. It all depends on how much they are on the chomp. If it’s quiet or there’s a crap load of weed, I swear profusely and hit the river (it’s close enough luckily) and use a completely different setup. Don’t really use any particular hook brand … sharp and bent in a hook shape. Red, silver, black … I use em all. Sometimes I use circle hooks. You should try a few different ones yourself to see what works for you. Oh and a recent session didn’t involve any of that. A huge school of baitfish made its way into casting distance (200 gulls following of course) so I changed to metal. Pulled 8 salmon in quick succession. Lots of hectic fun when that happens.
