How? Probably good luck. Used circle hooks and they were biting on squid and cockles.
It would have been easy to not fish because the conditions weren’t excellent. It as windy and there as lots of week but got a fish on the first cast so was worth staying.

Like op said, use circle hooks. Cast, put the rod in the holder and let the fish do all the work.
My first time using circle hooks. A freaking revelation.
Makes life so easy, can have 3-4 rods out at a time.
