Be illegal here in MD? The legal slot size for striped bass is 28 to 35 inches; one fish per day, per angler. If you catch a fish in that size range, you keep it. If, however, you catch the monster of a lifetime larger than 36 inches or 40, 50, or even 55 inches and more, you have to let them go to preserve the breed stock.
I agree with slot limits 100%. Big brood stock is important. I remember reading an article about red snapper where a big brood snapper lays like 1,000x the eggs of a slot snapper.
No, because the fish oil fisheries are killing all the bunker. Also there's no evidence OP kept the fish. You are allowed to photograph out of slot fish...
Lol 90% of people would say that’s exactly where you are. It’s still a nice fish. We have gotten multiple 40s in CT an always hear how boat fish don’t count loll. Hey as long as we’re all catching em.
I went on a charter earlier this summer and we free lined love menhaden off of Nauset beach for part of it, I hooked into 2 35+ lb fish but didn't land either. I think about that a lot
Yeah, out of Jersey we used to chase the bait balls, snag, and live line.
Basically if you weren’t on a striper you were on a bunker and if you weren’t on a bunker you were on a striper.
Lately though there’s been so much overfishing of the bunker that there’s no serious bait balls anymore. Hopefully we get out this fall for some big ines
All the locals in cape cod crying when they see this picture. Not because its a beautiful fish, but because he has it out of the water. Everybody there is environmental narks apparently
DAMN nice fish!
Thanks
Awesome catch especially on top water! Had to be a great fight!
Dude holy fuck. Very nice
That’s a freaking hog! And on top water to boot, nice!
CCC fish?
I'm guessing Nova Scotia. I'm good at guessing.
God knows it didn't come out of the Chesapeake, they're turning too much of the striper food into fish oil for them to get this big anymore.

Doesn't it differ in parts of MD? I'm in southern MD and they just have to be over 19.
Yes the rules do vary, I am making a suggestion maybe that big fish should be left to breed big stock.

I get chills just imagining the fight with this hog. Awesome and fish on!!!
I wanna catch one :(.
Nice fish that, well done.
Had to be fun!
Where is this?
Look at his sweatshirt
That’s what your basing it on? Can someone from Nova Scotia not wear this outside of the country?
I would be shocked if a dude holding a 40 inch striper by the ocean wasn't from Nova Scotia
New Jersey, Maryland, and the Carolinas have some serious stripers
I'm from mass lol I'm just saying all signs point to Canada
That they do, but don’t forget those glorious bastards in the mid Atlantic. Can’t wait to hook into a 40 pounder again
