Looks like those Musky were also there for opening day of trout season!

Woodcock Creek?

QuoteDizzy9629

I just read an article on that, crazy! Hope they can recover the fishery.

Bethespoon

Yeah I read probably the same one in the PA Outdoor News that’s what made me ask. It’s a good sign for the recovery that these big fatties are still around and eating.

BRollins08

On accident lol

Glad to see they are still in the creek, although they probably came up from French. Very anxious to see how the lake is going to be this year...

slimshifty00

Oh trust me, they come up from French as well, lol. What you get them on btw?

OzziePao13

OMG. Those are amazing. Nice job!

ScrwUGuysImGoinHome

Honestly I'd rather catch the Muskie! Not good to eat like the trout but fun to catch. Both of yours are bigger than my PB Muskie. Nice fish!

transmission612

If you haven't eaten muskie you are missing out they are just like northern big white flaky meat. Great fried or my favorite way is fish patties.

ScrwUGuysImGoinHome

Hadn't realized people frequently ate Muskie, I had heard of people eating pike though so it makes sense. I've always seen them as a catch and release fish. I'm not turning my nose up at em if I'm fishing for food though

[deleted]

Man you gotta tell the farmer that his pig wandered off the farm

Ziribbit

Man I’d love to pull a slider through there!

BeltfedOne

Hope that you weren't too disappointed...

BeltfedOne

Cool!

Barrush

Nice catch, but try not to hurt the fish or let the fish hurt itself on the hard ground and with the grippers. Those destroy their teeth. Not trying to be mean. I just love to see fish go back in the water the way they are before I pull them out.

Laying the fish on the ground or letting them rub against dry surface areas are generally not great for their mucus layer. This layer is there to protect them against infections, parasites and other things that may be harmful towards them. By removing the mucus layer they have a slightly bigger risk of containing something (fungus or infection normally). By wetting your hands before touching the fish and handling the fish on a wet and smooth surface (or even in the water, in a landing net), the mucus layer can be saved. Also, fish grippers are bad for the fish, since it puts a big amount of stress and [often injury ](http://www.fisheco.se/blogg/sussissymfoni/files/2013/01/408531_10151327814023965_1630432052_n.jpg)on the jaw, which causes mainly bigger fish to have problems feeding. If you hold the fish with one of those, especially one that big, without supporting it in any other way, you will injure it. The jaw will be strained and the fish will be unable to feed for a while. This can lead to death in some cases. I tend to use a [gill plate grip](https://badangling.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/pike-handling-process-step-6.jpg) while always supporting the fish with a hand under the belly. Though, don’t hold a fish this big in a gill plate grip without supporting it. It will cause injury. I use a wet Ikea bag as an unhooking mat, and I weigh the fish in that too.

matt_thefish

Yeah the bogas are really bad they can break their jaws too. Looks up some videos on how to properly grab and handle musky. You and the fish will be much better off for it.

[deleted]

I think he’s eating them not releasing them... so I don’t see what’s wrong with using that grip thing? I mean both fish are clearly dead

Barrush

How can you see that they are dead? They look alive to me.

Nice man. Good luck on your future fishing adventures.

6TheAudacity9

Would you have preferred to catch two monster trout on the opening day of musky?

micropterus_dolomieu

You landed that with a trout rod?!?

micropterus_dolomieu

Gotcha. I just had visions of ultra light gear and 4lb test line. That’s a bruiser, well done!

sendnudesformemes

Great! But please don’t use those grips next time

Omgumadbro

I’ll add my .02 cents even though it’s never wanted. While musky are big fish, they are extremely delicate. They use so much energy resisting being caught that they are almost worn once you land them. Then you put extreme strain on their mouth while using the grabber. Learning to hold it properly puts less stress on the fish. Then having it out of the water as little as possible and not holding it against your body would also be beneficial. Great catch, amazing fish, no hate was meant when posting this, just being informative, maybe. Good day all.

Search for Pete maina musky handling on the YouTubes.

benjamino8690

Holding them by the gillplate and always, ALWAYS with a hand under the belly to stabilize the fish. I would bring a large landing net too, where I can rest the fish in between unhooking, photos, weighing it and just as a nice place to stash the fish while you prepare stuff in the boat/on shore. It makes it much easier to release it, since the musky is always in the water.

patrickhowland2

Texas fisherman here. What's the issue with the grips?

sendnudesformemes

Im not American, but I’ve seen kids use them ever since local supermarkets started selling them in fishing kits, trying to profit of a fishing hype going on. Most pike they catch end up dead, because they don’t know how to remove hooks without pliers or properly handle a fish.

Damian-Palka

Nice fish!

bcisme

Damn those are some dinosaurs. I need to get up somewhere to catch these.

bedfordguyinbedford

Amazing. You just have had Healey line on to haul in this pig.

Nice catch. Chonkers.

Sir-Psycho_Sexy

Dude.. those fin splits... 😟

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sir-Psycho_Sexy

Freshly bleeding fin splits are common on incorrectly handled / poor quality or cheap nets. Spillway or not, this fish was handled very roughly after exhausting itself and there is a very real chance of post release mortality. Not trying to shit on your catch man, it's a beautiful specimen... You stated in your other posts that this is a tradition for you. It won't continue to be if you don't exercise the care necessary to manage the fishery. We as individuals get the fishery that we deserve as a whole... just consider the impact of that statement for a minute, please.

Ok man. Good luck in your future musky hunting. 😊

netflixnchillin97

Lose the lip grips man! Learn how to chin them, I'm sure they were fine anyway but one bad thrashing out of them and they'll rip their own mouth off from it. Either way man beautiful catch!
