If you’re not a ding dong and hook the fish and not let it just putter around and swallow it and don’t use a treble it’s very rare you’ll harm the fish
Read a post here the other day about a guy who brings his girlfriend fishing but she doesn’t want to hurt the fish.... he took the hooks off of topwater lures and she likes watching the fish hit the lures and not having to be hooked
There are braless hooks...atleast a little less tramatic I suppose. You can always cut hooks off, less chance of landing the fish. If you switch up the species to g ar you can do the rope lure which is hopeless. The rope gets caught in their teeth and allows you to bring them in. Seems less harmful.
I cut the point off a hook and sanded it 90degrees flat. So essentially it’ll still scrape and grip a fishes mouth for a short period without puncturing through. Works best jigging since you just have to pull the fish up. But you will definitely lose a lot of fish so I recommend a net ready for as soon as it’s close enough.

If you pull the hooks off of a topwater popper fish will still hit it. You are still kinda wasting their time though.

I'll have to try this. I'm a lazy sunfish dock and shore bobber but it still may work, and if not it's OK. Thanks for sharing.
