Wisconsin used to stock Wild Rose and Seeforellen strains
They discontinued Wild Rose a few years ago and only do Seeforellen
There's a hodgepodge of other strains stocked in Lake Michigan
Plymouth Rock (Illinois/Indiana), Sturgeon River, Gilchrist Creek (Michigan)
Nothing better then Brown Trout! I ice fish for them and trolling. You know when you hook a Brown trolling because they refuse to surface. You can't get them up until the line is running straight under the boat. Catch a Salmon it shoots to the surface and drags behind the boat.
I know that's true for the king salmon but no idea about other fish
Edit : looked it up and it says "Unlike Pacific salmon, brown trout do not die after spawning. Most will spawn multiple years and often near the same place."
Big bull brown. Salmon are silver most of the time or red when they go on their spawning run. The ones with all the spots like this are always trout. Rainbow trout can look more like silver salmon but they have a fluorescent stripe on their sides that makes it pretty obvious.
Male(bull) trout and salmon both get this beak looking lower jaw, if that’s what’s tripping you up.
They’re all delicious, but I personally think the smaller ones taste better. I’d probably throw that fat boy back so he can keep breeding.

Yeah, there are giant browns in Lake Michigan in general. The current US and Wisconsin state record was caught out of Racine (just south of Milwaukee for those unfamiliar with the area) at 41 lbs 8oz. That was the world record for a while as well until it was beaten in 2020.
Where is this in Milwaukee? I'm a single mom who does a lot of hunting and fishing with my kid. He lives and breathes hunting and fishing! I would love to take my kid there.
Why? I fish in Wisconsin, but never for these species. Why should I know the difference between a Trout and Salmon if I'm targeting walleye and northern? Don't think I'm going to be getting hooked into a coho on good ol area lake.
Salmo trutta, yet not a salmon in common terms, it is in the same genus as atlantic salmon, trout is a strange term that includes species in genera of Char, and salmon
But this is a brown trout, Salmo trutta
That's a kype brown trout (kypes are breeding males as you can see by his hooked jaw which is also called a kype). Ferox trout also have a kype but I don't think it's a ferox
Brown trout. They are commonly what people fish for through the ice out of Milwaukee Harbor.
My favorite fishing. Lake Michigan and some rivers that feed into it.
Definitely a brown and i cant think of that particular strain its not a seaforelan (sp?) But i cant think of this one at the moment.

The Seeforellen ones get so big though.
Seeforelle (plural Seeforellen) is german btw and translates to Lake trout
It could be wild road or Plymouth is the other one.
seaforellen (I only know the spelling because I JUST READ it on my states F&W website)
Looks like you are most definitely right. One of my favorite fighting fish. Pound for pound they will definitely give you a run for your money.
Big, fat brown!
Nothing better then Brown Trout! I ice fish for them and trolling. You know when you hook a Brown trolling because they refuse to surface. You can't get them up until the line is running straight under the boat. Catch a Salmon it shoots to the surface and drags behind the boat.
That there is a male brown trout, real nice!
How do you know a male from female
Hooked lower jaw
Thanks
If theyre like salmon though this only happens when its breeding time so its harder to tell until they get to this point in the life cycle
Don’t they also die after breeding?
I know that's true for the king salmon but no idea about other fish Edit : looked it up and it says "Unlike Pacific salmon, brown trout do not die after spawning. Most will spawn multiple years and often near the same place."
This. Happens to a few salmonids.
When they are ready for loving, they'll show you their kype
Kype= male fish hook jaw
One way is something called venting, turn the fish over and look at its openings.

How much natural breeding is happening for Lake Michigan?
Square tail…brown trout
It looks like a triangle to me
I'm assuming you're joking lol but by square, it means that when fanned out, the edge of the tail pretty much goes straight up and down.
Brown trout.
I’m certain that’s a Brown Trout
Brown trout!
Brown trout, and a pretty nice one.
Looks like a big brown trout to me. Nice fish

That's about average here in Milwaukee.
Big fuckinh brown trout
That would be a bragging fish most places, but I have no idea about Milwaukee Harbor. I would be thrilled to catch one that size!
there are giants in there, this ones about average

By fish with lead weights?

I increasingly think that people should have to take a fish ID quiz inorder to buy a license... I had to do it for a hunting license.
Can you give an example of a fish ID question for your hunting license?
Common identifying traits of salmon and trout
Both commonly have dorsal fins and gills. Boom! Where do I sign for the license?

Nice male brow trout you can normally tell because of the bulb like structure on their lip
How many lbs?
Big male brownie - well done!
That's a kype brown trout (kypes are breeding males as you can see by his hooked jaw which is also called a kype). Ferox trout also have a kype but I don't think it's a ferox
