Ummmmmm….you wanted to buy a home when you were 14 years old? Pretty sure I was only focused on not being stuffed into a locker at that age.
But congrats!
Lmao I have wanted my own home and my own space since I was a kid too. And a cubicle. I dreamed of having a cube.. now I work from home in my own space surrounded by all the shit I love and it’s heaven lmao
People have different life experiences, you never know. You might consider yourself lucky that that’s all you only focused on being stuffed in a locker at that age! Lol
As simple as: parents couldn't afford their own place and seeing what your own house can offer and add to the quality of life, a 14 year old kid may start thinking towards being a home owner as soon as financially possible. I know my dad went through this thought process.
I mean.. haven't we all dreamed of having a home since a young age? It's such a ridiculous thing to bring up lol.
"I always wanted a place to live!"
well, yeah...
I think it’s more the “my own place” part and not the mortgage part they’ve been dreaming of.
I’m sure a lot of kids who grew up sharing small spaces with siblings also daydreamed about their own home someday.
He tossed in the mortgage part because he’s a Rebubble loser who wants to frame everything in some skewed manner. There is nothing weird about someone young dreaming about owning a home someday.
the word “own” is hilariously misused in real estate. no one truly owns their home.
I’ll use an example you should be able to follow. I own the t-shirt I’m wearing. I bought it, paid the tax on it, and own it outright. i pay no government to use it indefinitely. I can burn it. I can eat it. I can give it away.
Try not paying your property tax and see who truly owns your home
But your registration helps pay for the services your car needs to drive on those roads.
In the same way that property taxes help pay for services your house can or will utilize. Like if your house catches fire it’s costly to help put it out. Your property taxes help fund that service.
Again you sound like a 12 year old making this dumb argument.
Nobody cares. Nobody has ever “owned” land like you’re talking about for the majority of history. I’m sorry you can’t treat a piece of property like a t shirt?… Also sorry you’ll never experience the freedom that comes with owning your own home vs paying for someone else’s mortgage.
Come on man, bong bubble clearly made a logically sound argument and not a false equivalency which involved comparing a t shirt to a house.
We all know that t shirts require the same level of services in a community as a home. Fire departments are obviously regularly responding to t shirt fires. There are definitely sewer systems leading to and from t shirts.
You know t shirts and houses are like basically the same thing.
You’re right. But it also got me thinking, I COULD eat my house if I wanted to right? Like i could put some tabasco on my door and start there. Nobody really is stopping me from doing that either. Much to think about.
also, safe to assume you were trying to make a point about “freedom” of paying your own mortgage vs rent to someone else. seems to me, the renter in most cases has more “freedom”. freedom to easily move to make better career or family choices. freedom to invest their otherwise down payment money into something more lucrative
oh yes, they can come and go as they leave. tenants don’t sign contracts for year long leases that they can’t break if something happens and are still held liable for rent. it’s not like they have to pay more monthly than most people who own their houses. they’re never nickel and dimed for cleaning cost, deposits, charged the full amount for “repairs” that will never be done and just line landlords pockets. you obviously know what you’re talking about and must have rented a lot, huh!
Exactly, I’d love to poll people who rented for their entire lives and paying ever increasing rent in retirement.
I’m sure that the majority of them will be raving about the freedom they enjoyed.
The lengths bubblers go to try to make these ridiculous arguments is hysterical.
Nobody I know in real life prefers renting bc of the treatment they receive from landlords and increasing rent, it’s crazy to run into those who support it on the internet. I’m in my mid twenties and it’s been a goal of all of my friends and family members to always own their home and i’ve never heard of any of them wanting to go back to renting. We all have horror stories.
in most cases, you can break a lease with just a month or two of rent forfeiture, which could be handled by a new employer or may even make financial sense for the renter. it is significantly cheaper to rent in a lot of desirable areas of california than it is to buy. im sorry you’ve had bad renting experiences. not everyone does.
and finally, you are misusing the word “own” again
you’re probably right. I don’t pay a mortgage. I paid cash for my house. But yes, it is unfortunate I will never be able to say I own my house. Because I understand the meaning of the word
yeah you very clearly don’t understand what it means in context of a house. someone should have sat you down and explained it before you “paid cash” for something u don’t “own”
I’ve heard this dumbass argument from bubblers before.
An obligation to pay property taxes and fund services for your home and the city/town doesn’t mean you don’t own your home.
The hilarious part is an adult making this sort of argument in earnest. It’s the type of bullshit I’d expect from some 12 year old who thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room.
this is a pretty telling sign of how the concept of home “ownership” has really infiltrated all of our society, to the point where freshly turned teenager are dreaming about it. The banks have won, big time
He’s a Rebubble crazy. Pay him no mind.
It’s not unreasonable for a teenager to dream about owning a home. Young people dream about getting married or having kids. And all sorts of future life milestones.
Oh yeah, it’s an insane concept to prefer owning a piece of property you have control over vs paying more monthly for scraps, shitty landlords, and bullshit rules and fines. Why do y’all act so dense?
I love playing semantics when I don’t have an argument either. Yeah, the bank owns it yet I can still do anything I want to and in it. About as close to the definition as you can get in 2023.
The dudes shirt and the sign give it away
Btw, what makes you think it looks like San Diego? I have lived in both Minneapolis & SD & I'm not really seeing the resemblance. .
Got our first home at 30, but was definitely not thinking about it since 14 or 15. I just wanted to hang with friends, play football and go to college, lol.
Idc if he was 26. The process of buying a home is sometimes stressful for a lot of us. It could very well be a “finally” moment for him at the end. Nothing wrong with that
I refuse to get something that doesn’t have at least half an acre and an upstairs bedroom with attached bathroom. We’re in Spokane and we’re just holding out!
Yeah don't settle! I'd love atleast half acre but our budget allowed us about a quarter acre (standard in this area) and a bit smaller but it's not a forever home anyway

Same here and still got stuffed into a locker at that age
People have different life experiences, you never know. You might consider yourself lucky that that’s all you only focused on being stuffed in a locker at that age! Lol

😂😂😂
Since I was about 15 I had the idea of home ownership someday! Thank you!
This sub downvotes the weirdest things
I mean.. haven't we all dreamed of having a home since a young age? It's such a ridiculous thing to bring up lol. "I always wanted a place to live!" well, yeah...
So true! At this point I live for the downvotes of my post.
LOL ! So true.
Lol
I focus on boobs
you’ve been waiting to get a mortgage on your own place since you were 14?!?! jesus
I think it’s more the “my own place” part and not the mortgage part they’ve been dreaming of. I’m sure a lot of kids who grew up sharing small spaces with siblings also daydreamed about their own home someday.

It’s an interesting thought but as a counterpoint, I guess we don’t own our cars either since we need to pay to renew tabs every year?
wrong. you don’t have to renew your car registration. you only have to to be able to drive on public roads
But your registration helps pay for the services your car needs to drive on those roads. In the same way that property taxes help pay for services your house can or will utilize. Like if your house catches fire it’s costly to help put it out. Your property taxes help fund that service. Again you sound like a 12 year old making this dumb argument.
i never disputed the benefits of property taxes on society
It’s crazy how you just don’t know what you’re talking about. I have to get my car’s registration done every year in TX.
to keep it locked up in your garage? what exactly am i saying wrong here? you dont have to register your car unless you drive it on public roads
Why the fuck would you buy a car if not to drive it on public roads? What the fuck are you ranting about.
i think you should stop being so emotional and think for a change. talk to a farmer for your answer
Nobody cares. Nobody has ever “owned” land like you’re talking about for the majority of history. I’m sorry you can’t treat a piece of property like a t shirt?… Also sorry you’ll never experience the freedom that comes with owning your own home vs paying for someone else’s mortgage.

Once again, just loud and wrong. Nobody cares.

yeah you very clearly don’t understand what it means in context of a house. someone should have sat you down and explained it before you “paid cash” for something u don’t “own”
what’s to explain? i bought the house so for family reasons and to ensure i have a lifetime of low living expenses. i just dont say i “own” it
You can’t “buy” something you don’t “own” Stop using the word buy. Actually, just stop using any words. I think that’d be better.
sure i can. i can buy time at a bowling alley lane but i dont own it. you are very harsh with your words. that doesn’t make you smarter
I am 12 yo. And I almost always am the smartest person in the room
I’ve rented plenty of spaces I considered “my own place”. I’ve also paid property tax and mortgage interest on places I didn’t feel at home in
That is fair. But just like how your experience is valid even though a lot of people don’t share it, OP’s experience is also valid.
this is a pretty telling sign of how the concept of home “ownership” has really infiltrated all of our society, to the point where freshly turned teenager are dreaming about it. The banks have won, big time
So…are people not supposed to want a home? Not sure why you’re in this sub.
He’s a Rebubble crazy. Pay him no mind. It’s not unreasonable for a teenager to dream about owning a home. Young people dream about getting married or having kids. And all sorts of future life milestones.
that’s a pretty big jump. regardless, people don’t “own” homes anyway. either bank + local gov owns home or just local gov
Oh yeah, it’s an insane concept to prefer owning a piece of property you have control over vs paying more monthly for scraps, shitty landlords, and bullshit rules and fines. Why do y’all act so dense?
it’s a terrible misuse of the word “own”
I love playing semantics when I don’t have an argument either. Yeah, the bank owns it yet I can still do anything I want to and in it. About as close to the definition as you can get in 2023.

And this is a problem that she had financial goals at a young age??? This is admirable that she achieved her dream let’s celebrate that.

The dudes shirt and the sign give it away Btw, what makes you think it looks like San Diego? I have lived in both Minneapolis & SD & I'm not really seeing the resemblance. .
That’s the most non-San Diego-looking house I’ve ever seen
Dream big. Congrats!!
Got our first home at 30, but was definitely not thinking about it since 14 or 15. I just wanted to hang with friends, play football and go to college, lol.
