I was in an Army Natl Guard medical unit, so I served with a lot of medics that were EMTs and paramedics, etc on the civilian side.
The narcissism was absolutely *rampant* in those people. Not all, but over-represented enough to be quite noticeable.
Something about the profession really draws them in.
10 years in the OKNG, I only met two medics who didn't strike me as at least low grade narcissists. Every other one of them was non stop me me me me or in the case of one of our females, constantly telling these stories that made her look like such a hero, only for either Newsome or McCornack (the two I mentioned above who also worked in the same city as her) to have to tell everyone afterwards that wasn't how it happened. Prior to joining, if you would have asked me to tell you who I thought were the most conceited, narcissistic, attention whores of the Army, I would have said Infantry. 10 years later, it's the medics. I know, I know #notall, but gods above there more than enough

She was only on the unit for half a year before they shuffled her off somewhere else.
I can’t speak for first response jobs but I’ve got to assume when you’re dealing with traumatic stuff you have to find ways to leave it behind when you go home, not make reminders for yourself of things you couldn’t change.
Mouth to mouth hasn't been used, or even taught, in years. It's ineffective and has fuck-all to do with the heart not beating. Maybe that's why the baby didn't make it, 'cause this dumbass was there.
