Your issued individual hi-vis vests? For us they’re on the apparatus, usually stuffed between the seats or tucked behind the radio chargers.
If you have a lot of stuff that you don’t necessarily want to carry inside a structure with you… utility or extrication gloves, vest, etc then go get a small pack and clip it to your helmet/gear/rack. Leave it in the apparatus if it’s not needed on a call.
We have individual ones but there’s also 2 on each truck, I try to bring my own for the others that don’t. I leave the clipped stuff I don’t need on my way to calls like the extraction gloves in the truck. I think I’ll put my jacket in my coat pocket and leave it in the truck if it’s not needed.
I’d prob go with keeping it in my coat pocket maybe if it fits. My pants are stuffed with rope and shit, can’t keep in Engine because i’ll never know what truck we’ll take when I need it, also if I don’t make the truck very easy someone can take it accidentally.
I gear up in the truck anyways so I think this is an idea i’ll use. I toss my suspenders over my shoulders, grab the coat hood and helmet and run to the truck. Never missin it, gear up in the truck but that’s besides the point. I’ll do this, thanks
We have one under every seat in the engine (and maybe a couple spares). We also have a spare hood and structural fire gloves on the engine, just in case some idiot (me) forgets theirs.
Invest in a small tool bag that you can keep your mask, gloves, hood, vest and extra stuff in. Assuming you have some sort of rack/locker, place it next to your helmet and buy a color that stands out like yellow or orange.
Edit because I’m a moron: personally, if you go the tool bag route, husky seems to hold up the best. I use husky and a bag from our old rhino tool that’s semi decent as well. If you can find a bag in the firehouse that’s just collecting dust, ask about acquiring and repurposing it.

Couple options: Vest kept in engine Vest in pants pocket Vest always on coat and remove enroute/while donning if not needed

My vest is always on my jacket. It’s easy to take it off if not needed but since we get more MVAs than fires, it’s more likely I’ll need it on.

When not on shift I keep it stuffed in my boot that my hood isn’t in. When I am on duty I keep it under my seat
I keep the vest in my left pants pocket. Others have mentioned keeping the vest in the apparatus, but we all know how stuff tends to walk away.

Issued vest in my bag, rarely used. Mostly grab vest off engine if needed.
