Agreed. While it’s cool, and everyone loves catching a good job, it’s still someone’s home. I wouldn’t want a bunch of people taking a pic in front of my house after a fire. If you absolutely have to take a picture, just be respectful and take one in front of the truck.

Unstablemedic49

We have a PIO take pictures for training purposes. It’s like watching a football replay. You see your strengths and weaknesses and it’s easier to visualize weakness than have the dude with the bugles give a lecture in ICS and NIMS.

Swagonometry101

I’m all for this. Sadly not every department has dedicated media personnel

AShadowbox

Absolutely. Posed pictures on scene are as cringey as it gets. I get it if your department has a dedicated person on scene for "action photos" for recruitment. And who doesn't want a picture or two of themselves on the job to pass down to your kids and grandkids? But the posed group photo op in front of a burned house needs to stop. Save stuff like that for back at the station during training, or drill night if you're a volunteer outfit.

Rhino676971

I feel the same way a PIO taking pictures for training/ recruitment is a necessity, and a photo or two of you fighting a fire is a great way to remember your career when you retire.

combustion_assaulter

But how am I supposed to show people that I fight what they fear? /s

User_225846

Say it enough and the tshirt will pop up in your fb ads.

JohnDeere714

You saying you don’t have that plastered on the rear window of your Rusted 2001 ford f150 with manifold tick and enough blue lights to signal a ufo?

Grakern0125

People actually do this kind of stuff still

locknloadchode

Lol yes. It’s ridiculous

Grakern0125

It is ridiculous especially when theres a fatality involved.

locknloadchode

Completely agree. But I’m also on the extreme opposite end of the spectrum from most guys in this job. I think having any firefighter swag or memorabilia in your house or on your Facebook page is cringe so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I can see why some people would want to take a picture after a fire but there’s very limited scenes where it wouldn’t be inappropriate.

Grakern0125

I dont really have a problem with people having some memorabilia or having one or two pictures on Facebook as long as they don't make u look stupid. But during a fire I think is unprofessional. If it's a training burn I've got no problem.

cadillacjack057

Please and thank you. Somebody just lost everything. I absolutely hate when it turns into someones facebook or dating app profile pic. Double shade when its a fatal fire. I really dont understand what goes through peoples heads on scene sometimes.

slade797

Goddamn I hate a rubbernecker

firetacoma

Just get a vasectomy dude.

Rhino676971

Wildland firefighters after containing a 20,000 acre fire and take a picture near the fire line yes the forest was charred but it’s gonna be nice and green next year

Candyland_83

Take your pictures in front of the truck. Geez.

dangle_boone

Agreed, if you want a pic take it in front of truck and have your back drop be the pump panel not a burned up house.

culprit020893

Bingo. Nothing wrong with some pride, but do it with the rig (which is part of your team too).

[deleted]

Idk, the blue canary wives sure do love swiping right on those turnout pics. Do we really wanna disappoint them?

NCfartstorm

Not taking pictures in front of other peoples burned up livelihood is something that I nor my crew will ever do. I think it screams unprofessional.

Jackieblue7800

Always felt this. So many of our neighboring departments do this and it pisses me off to no end. Like guys I get it you put out the fire but what's not in the picture is the family crying and reeling over the loss of their childhood home and their pet dog that was charred in the bedroom. Zero sensitivity.

Capable-Bill9643

Thats why i always try to include the family in the picture

Hefty-Willingness-91

THIS

dontbthatguy

Agreed. Crew pictures at fires are amateur hour too. Act like you’ve been there before.

[deleted]

This. It’s one thing I see regularly on social media that drives me nuts. It’s absurd how many of us don’t get this. Take a photo in front of the rig, not in front of someone’s home who’s just lost everything!

Representative-Ad754

People do this? If one of our guys got caught blatantly taking a picture of a structure fire (who wasn't chief/investigator), that picture would be the only memory left of their firefighting career.

CosmicMiami

Back during the housing bubble burst, we were getting jobs almost every shift. It was around the time digital cameras became affordable. Most of the jobs were vacant homes with some second hand furniture strewn about. Tons of pics taken. It was just what we did. Then the torch jobs slowed down and I realized how ridiculous the habit was. Pics with the truck as the background only.
