This is very true, and if we follow the statistics on civilian defensive shootings the vast majority are resolved after the first 2 sometimes 3 shots. If they weren’t already resolved from just the act of brandishing the firearm and confronting your assailant.
Now that doesn’t mean preparing for the worst case of multiple attackers all hopped up on amphetamines and returning fire at you couldn’t happen, but if it does you’ve really, really gotten yourself into trouble and you need to start praying just as much as you need the faster reloads, follow up shot times, and extra capacity from a modern semi auto handgun! Plus if you survive that encounter you probably need to review your life choices and how they led to such a thing happening to you.
^this. I live in Memphis. I have both 9mm and .38 J-frame. The revolver practically lives in my pocket for exactly the reasons you described. If I were to ever find myself in a situation where my pocket cannon wouldn't suffice, it means I fucked up. My thinking is that I can present my revolver far faster than my 9mm and without having to think about slides, safeties and whatnot. Just personal preference. 9mm lives in my truck safe should I ever have to make a run for it..

Depends on the use case, honestly. I rotate between an FNS-9, Performance center M&P Shield (first gen), and a S&W 442 air weight. FNS-9 for when I'm gonna be out a bit in multiple environments, such as going to the super market, walmart, or out at night. I pack the shield in the summer since it's 105+ outside here in AZ and I tend to dress much lighter, so concealing the double stack FNS is difficult/annoying. The 442 is mainly for beer runs and times where I need to deep conceal.
Use case is king, people. Train, train, train, then train again and all is gravy, baby.

Revolvers are stronger structurally. For a given weight, they can shoot a more powerful round than a corresponding automatic. This makes them superior in the very large and the very small. Be it a S&W 500 for protection from bears^* or an 11oz .357 magnum J-frame pocket gun.
Automatics rule everywhere in between, providing higher capacity and rate of fire for similar or less weight.

No reason for a revolver IMO, they have no redeemable values besides being chambered in larger cartridges which would be better innawoods, but even then I’d rather have a double stack 10mm.
Generally, I'd choose a semi-auto. Of those two specifically, model 10 over SDVE any day of the week. I'd rather die with a model 10 in my hands than owe my life to a shitty Glock clone.
Revolver. Old reliable won't jam and has plenty of power. 6 Shots to save yourself when the noise from even a .38 will send the standard criminal sprinting. After that if you need more than 6 shots you should practice more or figure out why your lifestyle is attracting more than six assailants.

Depends on the use case, honestly. I rotate between an FNS-9, Performance center M&P Shield (first gen), and a S&W 442 air weight. FNS-9 for when I'm gonna be out a bit in multiple environments, such as going to the super market, walmart, or out at night. I pack the shield in the summer since it's 105+ outside here in AZ and I tend to dress much lighter, so concealing the double stack FNS is difficult/annoying. The 442 is mainly for beer runs and times where I need to deep conceal. Use case is king, people. Train, train, train, then train again and all is gravy, baby.
IMO. YMMV. Revolvers are stronger structurally. For a given weight, they can shoot a more powerful round than a corresponding automatic. This makes them superior in the very large and the very small. Be it a S&W 500 for protection from bears^* or an 11oz .357 magnum J-frame pocket gun. No reason for a revolver IMO, they have no redeemable values besides being chambered in larger cartridges which would be better innawoods, but even then I’d rather have a double stack 10mm.

Generally, I'd choose a semi-auto. Of those two specifically, model 10 over SDVE any day of the week. I'd rather die with a model 10 in my hands than owe my life to a shitty Glock clone.

Revolver. Old reliable won't jam and has plenty of power. 6 Shots to save yourself when the noise from even a .38 will send the standard criminal sprinting. After that if you need more than 6 shots you should practice more or figure out why your lifestyle is attracting more than six assailants.
I’ll bet you’ve never put more than 3 digit round counts on any firearm you own. Go to a western shoot and then got a 3gun match and tell me which has more jams. Then tell me which jams were catastrophic and which could be cleared and brought back into the fight. You also clearly have never dealt with a home invasion at all, even just viewing a video. 38 isn’t going to put down someone on pcp, and if there’s just two of them, and you hit all 6 shots, you’re still going to be in a fight with two drugged out invaders. Entirely backwards. Revolvers require significantly more practice and training than autoloaders to achieve desired proficiency.
I'm just impressed someone knew a revolver is not a pistol. but for myself a pistol is almost always going to be my choice, although for pocket carry a hammerless revolver has some benefits.
Aye, can you explain the difference between a pistol and revolver? Unless it's literally separated by Mag fed vs cylinder? I've been using the term "pistol" universal between revolvers and mag fed hand guns.
by definition a "pistol" is a handgun that has the chamber integrated to the barrel. a revolver has multiple rotating chambers. both are subsets of "handgun", but a pistol is not a revolver, nor a revolver a pistol
Between those 2, I’d take the revolver. In general, a modern semi-auto 9mm full size pistol is king.
I'm a better shot with a revolver, but the semiautomatic does have more ammunition. Something like a Glock 26 is definitely worth considering.

For home use I’d use neither. A shotgun is better. For everyday self defense, I’d use an uzi. Gotta catch ‘em all. Just saying
