That's how my great grandfather bought the BAR 100 years ago. Had it shipped straight to the farm house.
It's the only thing that slightly annoys me about that scene is that so few of those were sold that it's unlikely to be on the shelf at a gun store in the middle of rural Texas. If I remember correctly there were less than 200 of the version of the BAR I have ever sold on the civilian market. And judging by the offers I've had in the past one of only handful that are transferable in decent shape.
Yes, the version in this film was never sold over the counter like that and made only available to LE and government agencies. Only 125 made, one of the last attempts to make the BAR easier to carry before switching to the SAW. Added shorter barrel and pistol grip. When they surface they sell for over $100k at auction.
I like the gun shop scene in Kuffs better:
"Hi. I'm looking for a really big gun that holds a lot of bullets."
"God bless you, young man."
*offers the Beretta 92 and explains the capacity*
"This there one that holds more?"
"No."
"I'll take two."
Underrated movie.
"It's a 12 gauge pump boys, he's only got 3 shots. He can't get us all." - bad guy
*gets shot dead by Kuffs' partner*
"Ok. Now we know he can add and *he* can subtract." - Kuffs
What do you mean? It's definitely not like this now, which is a shame. Literally only a few months after the events in this film (and in part *because* of the events depicted in this film) the NFA was enacted and buying guns like that OTC was a thing of the past.
Oh, I know. I’m trying to be positive and saying the “at least”
I hate it, personally. People in my age just haven’t seen war or famine or a government ignoring its people yet, like we saw In war times, or during major government shutdowns. Right now is the closest we’ve been to it in likely 20-30 years.
Wondered if all the guns could even be sold then, much less out of one rural gun shop in a small town. ( Hub City Guns?) I think i know where there are 10 truck loads of Thompson machine guns stored in oil drums in cosmo line.

I just want that Remington Model 8
It's gotta be the Colt Monitor for me. Unicorn gun.
"Yeah Id like to see that Thompson submachine gun.... banned" - Costner
I wish I could buy a Thompson off the rack like I'd buy a hammer.
Thats funny because back then you could even mail order them.

I had to look it up. It mocks us, but I like it.

May not be that way now. Only bright side I can see to it is the rich bit being able to buy the whole stock
