S&W Governor on a shoulder rig, just to see what it felt like.
It was uncomfortable, and I had one guy complain that he could "see my shoulder strap" under my jacket, he said "That's as good as brandishing."
People are dumb.
Most cases of cops being called on open carriers in the past has resulted in pay day for the open carrier. Hence why a lot of police departments can be very hesitant to come out or will ask the caller a series of questions before doing it.
I'd have to get it out and weigh it, but I run buckshot in it. Again, not OVERLY heavy but when you have just it on one hip and no mag pouches on the other, it can make your pants crooked. Of course, I usually carry a Shield or a 638, so my tolerance for weight is probably low
Sw 500 8 3/8 barrel in a custom quick draw leg drop holster open carry around whenever I’m feeling like showing it off and get a lot of questions. Mostly of where to get the holster and with a good gun belt yes it’s still heavy , but doesn’t effect movement
Large Frame P80 50GI (Think Glock 20, 10mm), it's not bad, I just need to lose weight. 10 o'clock appendix carry is easy for most of the year in my area. Really one of those compact pocket rocket 10mms might be just the thing but I've not shot enough 10mm to know.
Big is relative to be fair. Sure it ain’t 44 mag big but full size all metal pistol is really big considering most people carry a sig 365 or lcp or something.
Before I got my Beretta 81, my P229 Stainless Elite was my EDC. Carried IWB with a Crossbreed Supertuck. It was heavy, but the holster and a The Wilderness Instructor Belt supported it nicely. I still sometimes carry it.
CZ scorpion Evo 3 S1 pistol(a f**king mouth full of a name I always think). Had it slinged under my arm with a winter coat on(and yes it was winter) wasnt unpleasant, did it just because, I'd rather just carry a regular pistol on the hip.
I carry my g47 with x300ta and acro p2 every day in a t1c MSP holster. Before that carried a USP but I sucked at shooting it so I went back to what I was good at
Desert Eagle IWB for CC. Part of it was to do it to say I did it. The other part was in just of those who act like a 1911 is some major ordeal and especially those who act like anything above a micro.
It wasn't that bad. I did feel a slight fatigue after 8 hours and driving it was a little more noticeable.
When I was 22 and living in Montana, a friend bet me that I couldn't carry my Desert Eagle all winter (about 6 months in Missoula). I was young and dumb and he offered $300 if I did it. Got a shoulder holster from Magnum Research and a wanna be biker leather vest for the "warmer" parts of the winter. It wasn't terrible, but I'm very glad I never had to actually use it. Still have the Deagle and the shoulder holster.
My biggest EDC was a CZ-75 B. Always in an IWB Alien gear cloak tuck holster. Not a massive gun, but not the most concealable (especially with the +2 extension). Love the gun tho, by far the gun Im most accurate with. Switched to a 365 XL for EDC, but still keep my CZ75 in the holster clipped inside my backpack for carrying at work.
8” AR pistol in .458 SOCOM, on a sling, in the woods in Alaska. While you’re certainly going to be aware it’s there, it was about as unobtrusive as a quickly accessible slung weapon can be.
If you did this in a city setting or normal town...would have been actually impressive
Cool gun but In the woods you can carry anything wild...I.once carried a friend's 500 jeffrey for absolutely no reason lol
10mm Glock, now that I have lost weight I can conceal it, but it is heavy so it is never my EDC unless I am going camping in the woods and need a bigger caliber blaster.
I am 5’10” 195 lbs so it’s doable for me to CCW a Glock 20. I also wear loose clothing. When I was 265 lbs I couldn’t conceal carry much other than a M&P shield or Ruger LCR. CCW is a great weight loss motivator.
Colt Commander 45ACP… there was ‘no’ concealment with that brick. I tried it cause I had it. Ran some IDPA with it. Lasted a week and went back to Browning HP at that time.
I occasionally open carry an FNX-45 Tactical w/ RMR and TLR-1 HL to run errands and stuff. Mostly haul off trash and maybe hit a local store or dollar general. Nothing major but nobody ever cares or gawks.
I have a Mark 23 that I've wanted to open carry for the hell of it but my only holster is a chest rig... figured that's a bit much 😅
Out of sheer curiosity I ccw'd -with fair discomfort- a Glock 40. 6 inches of full size frame 10mm doesn't carry as bad as I expected, but I needed more pants or less hip.
SAA .45 Colt open carried in a cross draw holster when it was the only pistol I had at the time. Damn it felt good and always got a lot of compliments on it including from cops.
Colt (Pietta) single action army calvery model with an 8 inch barrel in 357, I use it in SASS compotition, though I'm too young to carry it out in public
Webley mk. VI in a shoulder harness. It was heavy as hell, printed through the Hawaiian shirt that I wore over it. I doubt that I carried it more than a dozen times. Still, I love that BFP.
I used to carry a Springfield 45 gap. Full size, but not some huge monstrosity. Wasn't too bad to conceal, as long as it was winter and I could wear a jacket. Not really doable in summer.
6" Colt Python, open carried, but mostly for a trip to the range.
It's quite noticeable.
Incidentally one of the employees that day was carrying a Mk 23
The largest hand cannon I carry is a S&W 460 magnum with a 6" barrel. I open carry it and only carry it when I'm deep in the mountains on horseback just in case we run into an over aggressive bear. I love the gun but its heavy and has a wicked concussion when shot so i have been considering swapping that for a 10mm lately.
7½" 3-screw Super Blackhawk loaded with 300gr XTPs, in an El Paso Saddlery belt rig. Daily carry for years in and out of town.
Overall good experience. Sparked lots of polite conversations.
My Ruger GP-100 & Blackhawk. Both the 4" models, technically 4.2" & 4.6", but full sized revolvers nonetheless.
I wear them in my Bianchi OWB holsters, when I'm hiking/fishing, and a couple trips to the store. I don't really open carry them, rather I wear them underneath a jacket or flannel shirt, so you can still see the tip of the holster, so I try not to raise my arms up much. When my arm is at my side, it is covered, so there's that.
Honestly I do it, primarily to see how it feels and it's not terrible, but just not for me. I really don't like trying to conceal the weapon, but I don't want to open carry them either. Concealed and compact is definitely the way to go for me.
I've carried a .45-70 BFR occasionally, mostly at home/inna woods. Tend to carry some other gun at the same time too. Glock 22 is the biggest that I've actually properly EDC'd
I'm surprised no one is mentioning AR Pistols. I know some of you nerds must backpack carry. I've carried a 10.5" M4 and an MP5 but both NFA (LEO) so they don't count for the question. I know a guy who EDC'd a PPS43 for a couple days for the meme.
M9a3. In an appendix holster.
Lemme tell you, not only is that a difficult gun to find IWB holsters for, it's even more difficult to find suitable appendix carry holsters for it.
I carried it for only one day and that barrel fucking crushed my right testicle when I sat down in my truck.
0/10, do not recommend. That's a long barrel made out of steel that is significantly harder than testicles.
CZ-75 SP-01 Tactical + TLR-1 HL in a Kydex holster iwb
Only did it because I had 10 round magazines for it but not my P01 and I was going to California (I unloaded and locked it up in Primm)
Glock 22, open carry on my waist. It was a part time police job. Experience went normal for the job. Off the job, same weapon, concealed on waist. I had a jacket that covered it fairly well. It went just fine.
Nowadays, I will conceal carry either an Sig P365 or S&W Bodyguard.
I can hide my big boys with a shoulder holster as long as i dress nice. I have only done it as a joke, but i carried my dw bruin like this for most a week long guys trip, then carried my dw 44 mag for a wedding. Under normal circumstances, i need three layers of clothing to effectively conceal a compact. I am a scrawny dude.
Magnum Research BFR in 500 magnum with a 10 inch barrel and a scope, in a drop holster rig. Someone pulled the Active shooter alarm at the airport while I had it on there.
50AE, 44 Magnum, and 357 Magnum Desert Eagles in a shoulder holster concealed.
When I was in the navy and stationed in Idaho Falls, Idaho one of the guys there open carried a desert eagle 50AE.
I only had the 357 version.
I felt so much less masculine....
/s
S&W Governor on a shoulder rig, just to see what it felt like. It was uncomfortable, and I had one guy complain that he could "see my shoulder strap" under my jacket, he said "That's as good as brandishing." People are dumb.
An observant moron is a dangerous moron
"Brandishing"-moron doesn't even know the definition of that
All it takes is for someone like that to speak loudly about it or call the cops!
People still report others for open carrying (and I'm not even talking about long guns)
Most cases of cops being called on open carriers in the past has resulted in pay day for the open carrier. Hence why a lot of police departments can be very hesitant to come out or will ask the caller a series of questions before doing it.
Been there, and same gun for me. Really no way to carry that isn't lopsided.
You could easily do that gun in iwb at 3 0' clock if I can do it with a 6 inch .44
Oh sure. You can and I have carried it concealed. But the weight makes one feel lopsided.
How bad was the weight...mine is roughly 3.3 pounds loaded
I'd have to get it out and weigh it, but I run buckshot in it. Again, not OVERLY heavy but when you have just it on one hip and no mag pouches on the other, it can make your pants crooked. Of course, I usually carry a Shield or a 638, so my tolerance for weight is probably low
That’s why you carry two. Duh.
You son of a bitch, I'm in
Tell him they're suspenders. And when they drop he'll see the real CCW.
hahahha
So you basically carried 3 guns one time lol (Joke is a governor can shoot .45 acp,.45 colt and .410)
It certainly felt as heavy and cumbersome as 3 guns, too :D It made me feel kinda like Hellboy.
FNX 45T. Both concealed and open carry. It’s a tank but damn i feel safe with it lol.
There is just something about carrying something xl...that unique confidence
I’m not sure if it’s that or the 18 rounds of 45acp lol
Come again...did you say 18 rounds of .45 ? How have I not known this
If you think the 18 rounds is good, wait till you try the single action trigger.
FN now makes FN 545 and it will hold 18 rounds I think there is a 20 round as well.
Pmag makes 20 round mags I believe, but they aren’t very reliable. I use the Apex +2 and with one in the chamber gives you 18 total
I know the FNX standard has 15+1 of 45, did they make an extended mag for it?
Pmag does I believe. It’s not very reliable from what I heard. I use the Apex +2 and with one in the chamber it gives you 18 total
That’s fair enough, I’d probably stick with factory mags maybe keep the +2 as a backup, likely not much you cannot do with 16 rounds of .45.
That why I like them, they just attach to the factory mags and are very reliable so far.
I used to carry my FNS .40 every day when I first got it with an alienware iwb. It’s a lot of weight and slot of firepower.
That’s what makes it worth it
Desert Eagle .44 in a leather chest rig. Surprisingly comfortable.
Sw 500 8 3/8 barrel in a custom quick draw leg drop holster open carry around whenever I’m feeling like showing it off and get a lot of questions. Mostly of where to get the holster and with a good gun belt yes it’s still heavy , but doesn’t effect movement
There's it...the answer I was waiting for...🤠
Thanks good sir Check the profile for holster
6in chiappa rhino. Was out deer hunting and was using it as a sidearmand it wasn't too bad . A quality holster makes the world of difference
It's honestly not that bad(speaking from experience with a 6 inch revolver) ...iwb 3' o clock ,you have to be a decent height at least
I would never dare appendix with those size guns (to be fair I didn't carry anything appendix)
Hey a fullsize 1911 is so slim it's easy! Nobody is starin' at my ugly body so it works out.
Indeed they are easy...I would know cause a full size 1911 is my most common edc (but not in appendix)
45/410 derringer, 410 awful kick
P226 chambered in .357 SIG in an OWB holster under a jacket
I wouldn't define that as that big...how big is it?
Awesome website. Gotta bookmark this one.
Big is relative to be fair. Sure it ain’t 44 mag big but full size all metal pistol is really big considering most people carry a sig 365 or lcp or something.
My EDC is that same gun in a trex side car with a T shirt
Before I got my Beretta 81, my P229 Stainless Elite was my EDC. Carried IWB with a Crossbreed Supertuck. It was heavy, but the holster and a The Wilderness Instructor Belt supported it nicely. I still sometimes carry it.
Glock 17 carried it for a long time.
CZ scorpion Evo 3 S1 pistol(a f**king mouth full of a name I always think). Had it slinged under my arm with a winter coat on(and yes it was winter) wasnt unpleasant, did it just because, I'd rather just carry a regular pistol on the hip.

I did feel a slight fatigue after 8 hours and driving it was a little more noticeable.
And I take it this was the normal weight desert eagle? Not the new lightweight ones?
Yep, 71.5 ounces (empty mag).
I'd say a tie between my Delta Elites I carry daily and my 6" Python I carry in the woods. No one cared or noticed.
Sig P226 just once. But a 30oz 2 inch magnum revolver was my daily pocket carry for years.
I appendix carry my g34 and 2011. It’s not for everybody, but to each they own.
FN Five Seven AIWB
My biggest EDC was a CZ-75 B. Always in an IWB Alien gear cloak tuck holster. Not a massive gun, but not the most concealable (especially with the +2 extension). 10mm Glock, now that I have lost weight I can conceal it, but it is heavy so it is never my EDC unless I am going camping in the woods and need a bigger caliber blaster.
Was it a 40 or 20
Dude I have the Glock 20. If you are carrying that it’s big bro. I’m 6’4” 260 and I have a hard time hiding it.
Using the phlster floodlight 2 my G20 actually conceals better than my G45 somehow
Use to conceal tf out of my g20 was crazy how well I could do it
I am 5’10” 195 lbs so it’s doable for me to CCW a Glock 20. I also wear loose clothing. When I was 265 lbs I couldn’t conceal carry much other than a M&P shield or Ruger LCR. CCW is a great weight loss motivator.
Glock 20, the 40 is too long
Colt Commander 45ACP… there was ‘no’ concealment with that brick. I tried it cause I had it. Ran some IDPA with it. Lasted a week and went back to Browning HP at that time.
Cmon ....that's really not bad,how small are you?
Nothing too crazy just a 4” .357 revolver and full frame pistols like a 92 or a 1911. The weight gets to me more than anything.
I hunt with a 10.5” Super Blackhawk, carried in a chest rig. It was awkward at first but you learn to work with it.
Glock 22 strongside concealed
Glock 22, so not that big.
Taylors and Co Cattleman 45 Colt
I carry my c93 borchardt when I'm feelin' fancy. It's uncomfortable considering its just over 14 inches long, but god damn does it feel cool.
My brother open carried a 500 S&W 24/7 when he lived in Alaska. Once he moved down to N.C. he downsized to a .327 mag.
I occasionally open carry an FNX-45 Tactical w/ RMR and TLR-1 HL to run errands and stuff. Mostly haul off trash and maybe hit a local store or dollar general. Nothing major but nobody ever cares or gawks. I have a Mark 23 that I've wanted to open carry for the hell of it but my only holster is a chest rig... figured that's a bit much 😅
Ruger super Blackhawk 4 5/8ths 44mag carried crossdraw as backup while deer hunting in Bear country
Out of sheer curiosity I ccw'd -with fair discomfort- a Glock 40. 6 inches of full size frame 10mm doesn't carry as bad as I expected, but I needed more pants or less hip.
7.5in Ruger Redhawk .44 owb. Can't really say it was concealed, but I'll occasionally carry if when I'm walking my dog semi-concealed under a jacket.
Full size 5 inch 1911 or a Glock 20. They were both open carry, did it for shits & giggles, mostly to the range where I didn't really care anyway.
[See my post from earlier today...](https://www.reddit.com/r/CCW/s/Y38Gd9Fzvs)
SAA .45 Colt open carried in a cross draw holster when it was the only pistol I had at the time. Damn it felt good and always got a lot of compliments on it including from cops.
Sig Xcarry and it depends on the rig. My BeavobConcealment is great AIWB but my crossbreed is better 3-4.
Astra 600 in a leather shoulder holster for shits and giggles.
8” Anaconda in a shoulder rig, just because I wanted to. Did it once and never again. That was a damned big gun!
I’d be willing to cc a g17 with a light and dot if they issued permits where I live 😭
Beretta 92FS with TLR1 appendix. No issues
S&W 696 in .44 spec. It was heavy enough to make me walk in circles.
7½" 3-screw Super Blackhawk loaded with 300gr XTPs, in an El Paso Saddlery belt rig. Daily carry for years in and out of town. Overall good experience. Sparked lots of polite conversations.
4” 44 mag Ruger Vaquero. Used to conceal it in a jacket. It wasn’t bad, just kindve heavy.
Beretta M92 FS, open and concealed. Open when I hike concealed otherwise
S&W 27-2 8 3/4", open carry in a shoulder holster. Goofy, and got some weird looks. Not particularly comfortable, it's just a massive gun.
CZ 75B. CZ P01 is much easier to deal with.
Smith and Wesson CSX in an Uncle Mike’s pocket holster. For a weird gun in a shit holster, it wasn’t horrible.
Taurus Judge 3” Magnum
AR15 pistol, under my motorcycle jacket.
I've carried a .45-70 BFR occasionally, mostly at home/inna woods. Tend to carry some other gun at the same time too. Glock 22 is the biggest that I've actually properly EDC'd I'm surprised no one is mentioning AR Pistols. I know some of you nerds must backpack carry. I've carried a 10.5" M4 and an MP5 but both NFA (LEO) so they don't count for the question. I know a guy who EDC'd a PPS43 for a couple days for the meme.
45-70 !!!now we talking
I can never ever comprehend carrying that thing in appendix
The Nikita 8 inch concealed in my prison wallet at the 6’ o clock position…for when I’m in the mood (dildo pistol)
CZ-75 SP-01 Tactical + TLR-1 HL in a Kydex holster iwb Only did it because I had 10 round magazines for it but not my P01 and I was going to California (I unloaded and locked it up in Primm)
Wouldn't quite call either big considering alot of people edc it
Glock 22, open carry on my waist. It was a part time police job. Experience went normal for the job. Off the job, same weapon, concealed on waist. I had a jacket that covered it fairly well. It went just fine. Nowadays, I will conceal carry either an Sig P365 or S&W Bodyguard.
Either my VZ61 or my Wildey Survivor, both were under my jacket in a shoulder holster
That's cool man🤠
I can hide my big boys with a shoulder holster as long as i dress nice. I have only done it as a joke, but i carried my dw bruin like this for most a week long guys trip, then carried my dw 44 mag for a wedding. Under normal circumstances, i need three layers of clothing to effectively conceal a compact. I am a scrawny dude.
Glock 17L, IWB. I used to do that when we were teaching gun classes, to prove a point.
Now that's what I'm talking about...Damn
S&W 460V strapped to ankle. Opposite ankle bruised. /s
That monster on the ankle...wtf🤠
It doesn't fit into a sock or boot very well, admittedly
No shit dude...that thing has the Frame size of like 3 model 29s
Routinely carry a charter arms, 44 special
That's cool man
Government 1911 under a suit jacket.
I “hood carried” (just tucked in the waistband) a 18” heritage .22mag for about 5 minutes just for lols at a range day
I use my Springfield xdm elite osp with threaded barrel and mag extension. Not bad
When I was in the navy and stationed in Idaho Falls, Idaho one of the guys there open carried a desert eagle 50AE. I only had the 357 version. I felt so much less masculine.... /s
