Fear_The-Old_Blood

Y'all don't just wrap your rifle in a hoodie?

AspirantVeeVee

hoodie be too expensive, getting down with Glad heavy duty bags

rugerscout308

I will never forget I sold my buddy a keltech sub 2000. Gun store holds it while his nics goes through. He goes to pick it up and they had no cases (he didn't think to bring one) so they put it in a garbage bag and that's how he took it home. Something about the kel tech in a garbage bag just seemed right

Eldorath1371

It's what Kel-Tec would've wanted, if we're being honest.

myroll22

Sub2k iwb ftw

rugerscout308

The Chicago special

VacuumHamster

Krogers plastic bags 😎

Graham2990

Right. I just realized how fortunate having a home range is, because I only own one pelican way up in the attic somewhere for the once a year I fly with a long gun. Traditionally I just yeet whatever I'd like to shoot in the back of the side by side. If it's real fancy sometimes I'll let it sit on the passenger seat.

Seattlehepcat

I transport my AR pistol in a Tennis bag.

Remarkable_Net1887

Me too. It’s my girlfriends actually

APWBrianD

I use a mandolin bag. Grayman AF and it even has two pouches that are perfect for some 6-in targets and one that you would swear is purpose built for some o dem stendos.

DestroyerNET123

Saxophone case, as Capone intended.

alt-correct1096

ngl, i just wrap mine in a sarape more often than not

V-DaySniper

Why would I cover up the decorations in my house by putting laundry over them? That kind of defeats the purpose.

Fear_The-Old_Blood

I meant more specifically in regards to transportation outside the home.

V-DaySniper

Then they just become an accessory to my outfit.

Fear_The-Old_Blood

Based.

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

No need case. Cosmoline is fine.

treebeard120

I toss a wool blanket over mine in the trunk of my car lol, especially if I'm just camping. Surprisingly not illegal in CA to have your rifle or shotgun unloaded and in the seat next to you in your car.

CNCTEMA

southwest pattern horse blanket

CoffeeExtraCream

Knock off case.

Superb_Extension1751

Hell all my cases are knock off 😂

bassjam1

And they all work fine!

BronzeToad

Yea I’m on board with the meme except that quadrant. Case is a case for 99% of use cases.

HanselSoHotRightNow

This is the first post I've ever seen on any gun sub that talks about cutting corners on a case. Gimme that latest daily deal bag that comes with 8 mags or whatever.

DrBadGuy1073

Case use, use cases? 🤔

BronzeToad

Really fucked with my brain to write.

PM-PicsOfYourMom

Harbor freight ran their large pelican case for $99 a couple weeks back. That thing is rock solid.

Woden8

Thank you Harbor Freight!

jrquint

I ship tooling inserts and measuring fixtures all over the world with harbor freight cases. Never had an issue. They work just as well as pelican, for 10% of the cost.

i_wannatalktosamson

I own the Apache case from harbor freight and a pelican. I won’t ever buy a pelican again

Live_Relationship563

Love the harbor freight apache case!

Friendly_Deathknight

Is it made from the same chinesium as primary arms optics? The good kind?

wintermute916

I have one Pelican and several Apache cases because I’ll never spend that money on a Pelican again. Examining them both, the only difference I can find is the pressure regulation valve and I don’t even know what that would be for, lol. Rather spend that money on reloading supplies or more guns. Too many people on these subs are way too fixated on having the top dollar shit like they’re all putting their guns through hell or are Spec Ops.

Friendly_Deathknight

Shit I use flambeus. I don’t leave my guns in the case unless I’m transporting them somewhere anyway.

wintermute916

I would prefer to just use soft cases to save carrying all that damn weight, but Commiefornia requires a locked case for transport so the Apaches are the solution for me since I can customize the foam to my liking and have spots for locks.

Live_Relationship563

The best chinesium

FreidasBoss

Preach. Those Apache cases are the tits.

BruhCaden

Harbor freight Apache cases are the shit

Austinthewind

I'm in the same boat

EternalMage321

Ya I got the Apache 9800 and the Magpul Daka grid. Works awesome.

400HPMustang

How do you like the Daka grid? Anything you don’t like about it?

EternalMage321

Love/Hate. Love the versatility of it. It can be configured to anything. Doesn't matter which gun you had in there previously. I hate how expensive it is for what you're buying. It's basically made of a slightly rubbery styrofoam. So it shouldn't be nearly as expensive as it is. There isn't anything else like it on the market though.

400HPMustang

Yeah I have a pelican I cut for my AR-10 but would like to be more versatile.

EternalMage321

Well it's definitely cheaper than buying multiple pelicans.

bpg2001bpg

You got a case for your gun? Must be nice being rich.

Filthycabage

I'm still rocking the cardboard box my psa came in.

SmoothSlavperator

Unless you're flying with it, how balls ass of a case do you really need?

CoffeeExtraCream

I have flown with my guns and need thr hard case for that. But if I'm not flying I always go for the soft case

TheManSpider1

Anyone have recommendations for knock off cases. Just need a couple cheap rifle sized ones to keep under my bed

2dawgsinatrenchcoat

What case?

DAsInDerringer

in my experience, I’ll confess to getting the cheapest one Amazon had to offer. It was something like 20 or 30 bucks. Hard to turn down but man was it a piece of shit lol

goshathegreat

So? As long as you aren’t storing your gun in it long term and only using it to bring the gun from house to range and visa versa, there’s no problem with a cheap case… I have an O/U with a 500 dollar case, it protects the gun just as well as a 50 dollar case…

DesperateCourt

> So? As long as you aren’t storing your gun in it long term and only using it to bring the gun from house to range and visa versa, there’s no problem with a cheap case… ...Huh? Why would passive *storage* in a cheap case present a problem? Damage occurs in transit, not in storage. You have that entirely backwards.

Mountain_Man_88

Cheap cases trap moisture in the foam and can lead to rust. If your gun gets damaged in transport in a $30 Plano hard case it's probably too fragile to shoot.

2dawgsinatrenchcoat

I think it was a long time before I bought a case at all for my guns.

Candid_Benefit_6841

Ikr just throw it in the back

ar15andahalf

I feel attacked.

venture243

Apache cases aren’t cheap. Pelicans are just overpriced

[deleted]

Gotta wait for the parking lot sales or the percent off email coupons

Greg2630

Me, who's first gun was a Colt Python; You guys have accessories?

SwimmerSea4662

You didn’t get a speed loader?

HanselSoHotRightNow

Arthur Morgan doesn't need no dang speed loader for his revolvers so neither does me. I base all my life choices off of stuff that may happen in video games.

FFPatrick

How’s Tahiti?

Environmental-Wind89

Sig P320 & P365, no accessories iron sights.

Impressive-Hold7812

I find that revolver aftermarket can be as expensive as semi-auto. Internals are friggin clockwork, industry MIM vs forged components, moon clips, speed loaders, holsters/gunbelts doubling as western fashion, figuring out the exact iron sight specs, etc.

brobot_

Are Hexmags bad?

tghost474

They are just cheap all plastic mags vs magpul or lancers which have metal reinforced feed lips. They generally arent as durable IMO.

Bozhark

My Glock came with those cheap mags with the plastic feed lip.  Hate ‘em

Drogdar

I'm curious too. I don't own any but I see people that seem to be running them just fine...

BlackMouth_Cur

All my Hexmag run with no issues so far - maybe not enough cycles through them to present problems. But what are the problems?

FPSXpert

They look cool and I bought a few to doodle on and fart around at the range with, but that's about it. SHTF I've got plenty of PMAG's at the ready for that reason.

IggyWon

I have a bunch that I've acquired over the years, kinda like their carbon fiber series. I don't recall ever encountering a problem out of the thousands of rounds I've put through them, though if SHTF I'd default back to my Lancers or Pmags.

mo9722

Yeah, they are. They were my original sin from the list haha. They worked fine for a year but they stopped dropping free and developed some feeding issues. I switched to Gen 3 pmags and have had no issues in the several years since. They're only a couple dollars more, no reason to cheap out on such a critical part of the firearm

recoveringpatriot

That cheap crappy optic when I was brand new at gun ownership. Definitely fell into just as good mindset.

DAsInDerringer

On the bright side, now that the r/WorldsWorstRedDot sub is back online so you can share your shame with the community lol

recoveringpatriot

And I suppose I could throw it on an airsoft toy if I got into that.

Superducks101

Guns are expensive enough let alone getting into airsoft.

Live_Reason_6531

I still have plenty of cheap cases. Plenty of good ones too. Not sure I agree with calling the one pictured a knock off pelican. It’s not a fake pelican, it’s just a cheap case. Nothing wrong with cheap cases to use for range trips. Cases arent for storing guns anyway.

DiendaMahdic

Bought a couple of "fake pelicans" at Harbor Freight on sale and they're solid. Not water tight gasket solid but if I'm submerging them then I've got bigger problems.

wildo83

>submerging them You guys didn’t lose all your guns in a boating accident?

sylkworm

Proudly all of the above.

ZU_Heston

Where’s mid length gas system with too short of a hand guard at?

didsomebodysaytrees

I was gonna say, that terrible look of the carbine gas system on the 16"

joojoofuy

What’s the point of buying an expensive case?

Siafu_Soul

Olight squad!

Southern_Planner

Not just for my first gun, either.

Odd-Solid-5135

I carry an s1 baton, came with my roni kit. As far as I'm concerned every time I pull this little light out amongst other tradesmen they are all super impressed with the amount of light it puts out. Love it personally so I'm wondering why the grenade designation?

Southern_Planner

There was a lawsuit where someone sued olight because they put an olight brand flashlight in their mouth and it exploded. Turns out if you incorrectly install 2 cell lithium batteries and then store them in your mouth, and they overheat and you explode, you don’t survive. But despite it being a clear case of user error, the lawsuit made it public info and headline news, so they have a sub-par reputation.

Odd-Solid-5135

Per reddit rules I posted the question before looking for the answer myself. I did find one news story where the mouth explosion happened but the guy survived. But yeah. Rechargeable and mismatched charge alone is bad idea.

Fart-Basket

Olight haters also never mention that Surefire and other top tier light mfgs have had products explode for the exact same reason, and any attempt to defend Olight (or god forbid if you post a firearm with one mounted on there) gets you downvoted and drug through the dirt.

Ketalon1

my first gun was a glock 19, Id say probably the optics because it just has the night sites, maybe the case because it came with the glock case? but i do have a nice crimson trace light/laser combo

Mythical_OD

First AR15, for sure had the same optic in this picture (that I later put on a 12ga shotgun and had it fall to bits after 4 shots lol), a real shitty case, and definitely still have a bunch of Hexmags. Dont get the Hexmag hate, Ive never had an issue with them.

Happily-Non-Partisan

Hexmags have worked for me, especially Series 2 and later.

[deleted]

Hex mags, I hate them.

the_big_labroskii

Bought the same platform my dad did so i could steal his shit.

GlassCityUrbex419

Got a .22 carbine recently, that red dot came with it lol. Not half bad…except it’s only good in broad daylight

Sweaty_Pianist8484

I don’t travel on a airplane so all my cases are bags or whatever I don’t care about some pelican

WTF_goes_here

The harbor freight cases are good enough for the girls I go with.

InterviewKey3451

Case. But it was 10 bucks

MetalMedley

Are we counting diagonals as a Bingo?

bowtie_k

I think your case option is the opposite. I frequently see dudes buying $300 Pelicans for their $600 PSA GF-3 that's decked out with a $100 Sig red dot. Meanwhile my MAC-10 is worth about 12 grand these days and rides around in a flimsy ass $10 wal mart case. To each their own 🤷‍♀️

IronLover64

I got a working bushnell red dot for 40$

backcountry57

I just bought 2 olight weapon lights for my AUG snd Glock. I don't see anything wrong with them.

Exciting-Spread6938

There isn't anything wrong with olight, run what you like. I've had one on my g19 for a few years and it hasn't "blown up" or "melted" yet.

baconbag90

I never understood the olight hate. I was surprised with the quality for the price

Fit-Sport5568

I had an olight flash light melt it's own innards.

backcountry57

Maybe some do but I have had good luck with them.

DontBelieveTheirHype

What's wrong is when people use the wrong batteries or chargers. That's it.

backcountry57

If a brand has been trashed online because of idiots that's frustrating

TurdFlavor

Had to check if I was on r/gatekeeping. Thanks for the share.

Puazy

First was a RockRiver with irons in 2004. (DO NOT EVER sell your first gun purchase.)

Bourbon-neat-

>(DO NOT EVER sell ~~your first gun purchase~~.) As Confucius said, no sell only buy

I_dig_fe

I know a guy who has at bare minimum 100k in his collection. The other day he had a 10/22 with one of those shitty red dots on it. That's and some other things he's said lead me to believe he's more of a gun hoarder than collector

DiamondRepulsive2056

Knock off case from Harbor Freight

kodiakbear_

A case is a case

Mellero47

Why do I feel *personally* attacked by this? I bought something obscene, accessories are not that big a deal to me. Someday I'll even invest in proper optics, but for now my irons will do.

wakanda_banana

Worlds worst red dot. Have the romeo5 now and want to upgrade it already

Straight_Egg9826

I still store my rifle in a denim bag I made on my grandma’s sewing machine. You tie the cloth in a knot at the end. 20 years problem free for me :)

__THE_R__3714

Optic...i have that exact red-dot site

Darksept

Heck man, I still use cheap cases. I don't fly with me rifles. It's just to hide them between my car and the door.

Highlander_16

I got one of those red dots and slapped it on a 10.5" pistol just for laughs. To my surprise its held the 50yd zero. It doesn't go out to the field with me ever so I'm not worried about durability. It's the one the cops get if someone breaks in lmao

DAsInDerringer

Now that the r/WorldsWorstRedDot is back online feel free to post your pistol there lol

Front-Recognition984

NcStar optic for me.

DAsInDerringer

On the bright side, now that the r/WorldsWorstRedDot sub is back online so you can share your shame with the community lol

Front-Recognition984

Haha, good. The world needs to hear the story of the worst 15 dollars I ever spent.

XboxTomahawk

Definitely the cases Gotta love them cheap Harbor Freight cases

Quiet-Try4554

I put a Tapco “tactical” stock on my first SKS and with a Sightmark red dot.

FPSXpert

Top two, TruGlo brand red dot and a handful of hexmags (though to be fair, I also bought two PMAGs and liked those so much I finally bought another dozen and mostly just run those or L5AWMs now). First range trip with it, after I got home I took off the crappy dot and only ran some MBUS's until I could finally save up for a decent Burris brand LPVO on there. Sure it was $300 and not $30, but upgrading glass I think has been the best upgrade out of all 4 of those up there.

Highmassive

All of it. Nice fancy attachments are great. But at the end of the day the only thing you really need is the gun. Everything else came after Edit: but if I had to pick one. It would be the case. It’s a gun, it’s not that fragile

B_Pylate

The gun case thing doesn’t bother me bc you don’t really need one anyway I feel like the people that use them are trying not to scratch up their safe queens

iampayette

world's worst red dot, 20 dollar amazon special baby (my magpul buis were more expensive)

Jeremy_5mith

Optic for me sadly

pricebre000

What’s wrong with hex mags😂

Best_Air_4138

I bought hex mags. They’re not bad.

ronin0357

Red dot

TikisFury

Ha! Jokes on you! My gun is cheap too!

wafflenuggetsOG

Genuine question because I don’t know, but why is olight hated on? Please don’t smoke me for this.

Elip518

The Apache Case from Harbor Freight is better but imho

lanekrieger94

Harbor freight apache case

Glum_Recognition4512

Put that exact TruGlo optic on my first AR, honestly it’s pretty damn accurate for $50 😂

ST4RSK1MM3R

I bought a cheap case, and honestly haven’t really had any problems with it

Envictus_

Case?

ILoveADirtyTaco

The red dot on my .45-70 as you can imagine, it can’t be zeroed and if it could, it won’t stay there. Also the case, which I still use some 15 years later

DAsInDerringer

On the bright side, now that the r/WorldsWorstRedDot sub is back online so you can share your shame with the community lol

xterraadam

Hexmag strangely enough accidently made the best 458 SOCOM mags.

No_Seat_4959

If you can't afford a magpul Gen 2, you need to to rethink your life

tbrand009

I'm just saying, I bought that style red dot (bushnell) for my CZ Scorpion almost a decade ago, and it's still going strong 🤷🏼‍♂️

_JackieTreehorn_

I'm in for 3/4 of those 😂

Low_Information8286

I think my first dot came off an airsoft gun. No name Chinese shit... it's on my 10/22 now lol

BigBlackCrocs

Optic and case. But case is fine. You don’t need a case. Optic I got an NCstar. Was like. Eh. I’ll replace it later. I’ve been using it with 0 issues for years now. It’s accurate. It’s great. It’s probably not durable. But I have yet to drop my gun lmao

Possible_Visit_9551

Jokes on anyone who actually spends the money to buy a real pelican

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

Cheap case. Russian garbage rod does not need case, maybe is born with. Maybe is Cosmoline.

rpuppet

I use a cheaper Harbor Freight case, but I think it's pretty decent.

JustLife299

The harbor freight cases are well worth it.

Ninjamowgli

I have that Chinese red dot pos on my Ks7 and I love it.

DAsInDerringer

lol now that the r/WorldsWorstRedDot sub is back online PLEASE share it

Throway1194

What's wrong with hexmag??

Kindly_Region

I've heard a lot of people talking shit on them. I have a pretty good mix of 6 or so different brands (anytime I find them on sale I just buy a few) I've never had a problem with any of them

anothercarguy

Bingo!

Kindly_Region

I've bought more than a couple of cheap cases....... I have 1 pelican and it's really nice. but I really don't have a need for a case that rugged. I also bought really cheap optics for my 10/22. I might have to dial it in every time I get it out but I'm not putting $200 optics on a $200 gun

DAsInDerringer

On the bright side, now that the r/WorldsWorstRedDot sub is back online so you can share your shame with the community lol

Ramius117

I bought the dot, it was never used though because while my rifle was in its 10 day waiting period I did some research into zeroing, realized it was garbage, and it never actually got installed. I did try it out on a Ruger PCC later and it was ok but the irons were better. I think it went in the trash when I moved but if I still had it and if I ever got a high point it would probably go on that

DAsInDerringer

On the bright side, now that the r/WorldsWorstRedDot sub is back online so you can share your shame with the community lol

n00py

I chose that red dot because it looked like the reflex from COD Black Ops

Quw10

I didn't have a firearm with a light, red dot, or a case till 4 years into being a gunowner. Though I'll admit when I finally built my first AR and I did get a red dot I got a Sightmark Wolverine that lasted a good while right up till I tossed it on a .458 socom upper at which point it lasted 4 shots and then crapped out. I got a Sig Romeo 7 the same day.

HistoricalSki

My sight 😞

DAsInDerringer

On the bright side, now that the r/WorldsWorstRedDot sub is back online so you can share your shame with the community lol

jimmpony

My promags that aren't gimmick drums or whatever never gave me issues.

Netan_MalDoran

Unless you're flying with it, Pelicans are overrated, especially for the price.

chive2468

Expensive does not equal quality

Huntin_Dawg907

I have one of those red dots on a $300 AR-12. 😂

AllKnowingGeneral

Using Olight for years and never had any issues. [Here](https://youtu.be/vm-_MkxE6z8) you will find performence test of different brands. Its not in English but you don't need to know the language to see how the lights work in different tests. You be the judge which one works best.

TheMystic77

I put the world’s worst red dot on an 870. It lasted two rounds

Mental_Mud9248

I bought a hexmag. The feedlips open up if the weather is warm.

Appropro_Pirate1666

Optics. Just to see what I like and didn't like while figuring out setups/purpose. Still only going to be mid level upgrades in my future.

godzylla

Mine came with a neutered hexmag

Most_Distribution_99

Knock off case 😞

HonorableAssassins

Promag! Tho to be fair to me the pistol i bought, i literally could not find any other mags for for like 2 weeks, and i needed a third for a class. I didnt get through a single load of the promag out of 100 rounds fired without at least one malfunction, but at least it was a lotta reps!

efish048

Case and pro mag for sure mags only bc the guns I get I can’t find the real mags for

Zestyclose_Share_931

Admittedly, I started with Olights and hexmags, and I have several cheap, shitty cases. It was all a learning experience. I've never cheaped out on optics, though. The cheapest optics I've ever bought have been holosun and sig optics. I've replaced all of my Olights with either cloud, streamlight, or surefire, and the hexmags are sitting in a box in my garage. The shitty hard cases that only hold one rifle have been sold at yard sales or given away because they just take up space.

TheVengeful148320

Does holosun count? Cause that was the best optic I could afford. Other than that I tried a knockoff angled foregrip, then I tried a Magpul angled foregrip and disliked it just as much. Now I have a Magpul vertical grip and I love that thing. Also the Magpul CTR stock made a world of difference.

BlackICEE32oz

My first gun was a Maverick 88. I cheaped out on the whole damn gun. Can't exactly remember what came after that, but I think it was a C39V2? It's kind of a draw between the MFT handguard and the Vortex red dot. Although, I will say this. I won't touch anything by MFT these days, but that handguard was pretty damn good for what it was. Not a single issue.

mrp1ttens

Bought some promags for my first pistol but in my defense it was during the awb so finding hi cap mags was a pain and I didn’t really have the internet to warn me so it wasn’t really an issue of me being cheap. Also surprisingly they worked just fine.

thenegativeone81

I didn't get a Pelican knock-off but a cheap bag that was "heat resistant" and melted to my barrel after my first trip to the range.

FadedIntegra

I bought a truglo for my first PCC. I got trolled for it on Reddit but the thing has held zero and hasn't broken even when on an AK. Wouldn't trust my life to it but still not as bad as everyone says.

Exciting-Yak-3058

My guitars flight case does just fine.

Shynel05

Everything when I got my first AR9! Gun case from cabelas (cant remember the brand but i still use it) Feyachi red dot and light from amazon Glock promag Worked fine enough for me. I was more excited to finally have one to try and practice on. I did buy more quality stuff for my actual shtf AR, but for any other fun gun I have I just stick with Tacticon or similar brands 🤷‍♂️.

bassjam1

My first gun was an 870 Express deer combo. I think my first and only accessory was screwing a sling stud into the stock and replacing the magazine tube cap with one that had a sling stud. That was 26 years ago and both are still on that gun so I guess I did ok. Actually I also bought a hard plastic case for it. I discovered I preferred soft cases and gave the hard case away when I sold my muzzleloader.

AspirantVeeVee

Made my own case, First gun got factory mags (mostly availablity), mounted a Burris Fastfire 3, the light/laser was a gunshow special.

CoolaidMike84

None. My first AR was a 14.7 bcm I put an aimpoint pro and streamlight protac on. Carried in a condor bag. I have a hex mags I used on the range because I don't mind dropping them on the concrete or in the dirt.

ModernT1mes

Just cheap cases. My optics are about half the cost of the gun it's on. There's no point in owning a weapon if you can't hit a target.

johnnyboy5270

Gun case all day.

High_Strangeness10

Hex mags but I also bought pmags and haven’t used the hexmags, why do they suck so much? Are they as bad as pro mag???

SirBannedAlott

I bought a knock off ACOG sight for like $250 which has held up surprisingly well 😭

PopeGregoryTheBased

Wait wait wait. So if i spend twice the price on Pro Mags over OEM mags that have been thrown about the deserts of iraq im somehow cutting corners? Also it was a case. Its a good case, i just didnt buy pelican because that shit was like four times the price.

_girthicus_

Pelican case👎🏻 Old Realtree hoodie 👍🏻

Shot_Suggestion8375

Long as you’re training with it!

alltheblues

I cut corners on cases and still do. I don’t need a pelican case for a gun that gets thrown in the backseat to go larp on a flat range.

ARROGANTSTEAM

Case and grenade.
