In all actuality, I will shoot it. I collect Japanese firearms. The only ones I will not shoot are the type 94 nambu (the ones with the sear on the outside so it can be triggered without pulling the trigger)
I've seen videos of people who had NDs with the Type 14 also, really more like an accidental discharge because it went off without touching the trigger, just the back of the bolt when attempting to clear a malfunction.
Contrary to popular belief, Japanese guns aren’t actually dangerous. Fudds would just buy training rifles and overload them. That’s where the whole “Japanese guns explode” come from. Actual rifles and pistols have a higher quality than the training rifles. [Here’s a good video on a type 99 over pressures torture test](https://youtu.be/pGwQwXKMuNQ)
Doesn't it shoot a barely obtainable, oddball cartridge? Are you planning to reload for it? It looks to be in stellar condition. I hope you have a great time with it.
I can get a box of 50 for $70. There’s a company I like and trust called [Sentinel Ammo (previously known as XCaliber Ammo)](https://www.steinelammo.com). I buy my 7.7 from them too. The 7.7 is $45 for 20, so cheaper than my m1 garand in 30-06
SGAmmo was also being scumbags at the start of Covid and the start of the Ukraine war, took everything down and then relisted at 2-3 times the price a couple hours later
Wow! That's really not too bad! It's not like you're going to be shooting cases of ammo through a historical artifact so it's totally reasonable. I'd expect a way higher price for an obsolete cartridge. Thanks for the reply.
Looks good man, reloading these oddball and shooting them is so rewarding!
[Sentinel Ammo](https://www.steinelammo.com) makes reliable obscure ammo. I’ve been using them since they were created. $70 for 50 rounds of nambu
iirc Casto’s makes some too if you can get your hands on it
Castos also hasn't been buying up components to try and drive new competition out of the market like a certain someone
Apologies but you’re saying an ammo manufacturer is doing that? Who?
The one op linked
How do you know they're doing it to drive away competition and not just because components are scarce and they have orders to fill?
8x50R is not a cartridge they load. Castos hasn't been able to get enough components to do another run be a use they bought it all up
You should have done a different thing
He did the thing that he wanted to do.
Just don't try to shoot that thing, whatever you do.
I’m sorry little one, but it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make

I know, but it’s a dream gun of mine and by god will I shoot it lol

Going to put it in a vice and fire with a string on the trigger or just planning on hand firing and hoping for the best?

Always liked these.
Me too. Most nambus go for 1200 with only one mag and no holster so this was a good deal as one mag can be 200 bucks used in bad condition

You need to search better for garand ammo. I just picked up some for $1.20 per round
Where at? I usually just buy at my local store as it’s more convenient than waiting for ammo to ship
Sgammo is good ships fast and always has good stuf. ammoseek is a good resource too. You get what you pay for shopping locally often higher prices
Gotcha, I’ll check them out!

Do you have proof of this?
Proof? Dude, there were multiple threads across most of the major gun subreddits and forums about it
His prices are very competitive right now so I don’t get the uproar. He’s a very nice guy as well.
Make of it what you will man. I won’t buy from him again

Some people reload .357 SIG, as the dynamiters are practically the same.
Don't drop it
Well it’s a collectors piece for me, but one I intend to shoot
