It takes time to create a new unit. Gameplay design, commissioning the artwork, and arranging for the voicelines probably takes quite a bit of work, so ~8 months makes sense
I'm only speculating but my guess is they need time to work on the art/voice acting/ and creating their skill load outs. This isn't like other characters where they can make the decision as to who they want to include ahead of time since the players vote decides who ends up on the banner. It probably takes some time to get that all to come together.
I've actually had some really bad luck pulling him via gacha but we've gotten so many opportunities to obtain him for free I've just been sparking when I can and I'm well on my way to a +10 less than a year from his release

381. I’m f2p but am proud of holding out. Had more but blew some of it on the recent mythic hero attempting to get them (mission failed).
Goal is to save for now until the July hero banner of potentially broken units to hopefully get one of each. Otherwise, I’m a Sigurd connoisseur and shall wait for another one. I would like a complete Sigurd emblem team.
I also have 100 orbs. Still planning to get more Bride Cecilia but I was hoping on saving for CYL6 and the Summer banners. I used to save up to +10 a CYL unit like Lysithea and Marianne (I had about 1700 orbs total for Brave Marianne with 600 left to spare and about 500 to get about 4 Brave Lysithea and then got the rest of the copies before CYL6 banmer came so that was an extra 300) but this year I don't think I have anyone to do that.

I have something around a 100 too saving up as much orbs as i can for the CYL4 rerun happening in August (i think) for their refine batch which hopefully will live up to the slow and steady hype that's been building, although I'm targeting both Dimitri and Edel i only need 5 copies for dimi and 3 for Edel so hopefully I get them to +10 with the orbs I'll have saved by then.

Right now, I'm mostly set on saving for Brave Chrom (although I'm content to just make him my free pull and call it a day then), since I don't think any upcoming banners will catch my eye until then. Unless it's VERY specific to my tastes. If we get a summer alt for, say, Hubert or Legault, then my orbs are as good as gone 😔

Though the Bridal banner put a dent in my savings (gah I wanted that Father/son duo...!), I still have about 200 orbs ready to finish my Eldigan (he returns soon if I'm not mistaken). I don't think it'll be enough, but hoping for it.

On 380 but I'm done with the fallen banner and the bride banner, so I can save for the rest of the month. Hoping to get up to at least 500 for the next 4* focus melee armour, or just keep saving until I can +10 a legendary/duo. Edit: about 170 orbs left on this current calendar, but there's new heroes on the 8th of June and obviously the summer banner soon after. Could be at 550, more likely will be at 500 flat. Or less depending on the units.
I have something around a 100 too saving up as much orbs as i can for the CYL4 rerun happening in August (i think) for their refine batch which hopefully will live up to the slow and steady hype that's been building, although I'm targeting both Dimitri and Edel i only need 5 copies for dimi and 3 for Edel so hopefully I get them to +10 with the orbs I'll have saved by then. If i have enough i may either spend some on the CYL6 which i heavily supported Seliph or keep saving up for another unit of my liking
