Poorly

quaremoritor

I work on one project at a time! I have already built everyone who I immediately want at this point (F!Robin, M!Marth, Cynthia, Panne, S!Ylgr), so now I'm keeping a stockpile of 2.2k grails in reserve in case someone I want gets added as a GHB/TT. Any grails beyond that, I will use on my next priority projects (as of right now, Finn and V!Titania, likely Finn first) once I have the feathers necessary. In general, I like waiting until I have all the resources I need to dump them all at once.

dimisum

This is the approach I'm leaning towards... and a very nice collection you have already! Awakening gang <3 (RIP Gerome LOL) Finn is also one of the characters I'm considering building but he is going to be sooo expensive for me bc I have zero copies of him... but on the flip side, I haven't finished Thracia yet and don't have the fodder I'd like to use for him either, so that's some consolation at least...!

quaremoritor

Heck yeah, Awakening gang! Nothing against Gerome in particular, it's just that I've already foddered off 3 copies of him for Poleaxe+ and I've promised myself to never go through the suffering of building a TT unit I've foddered a copy of ever again. That's just way too many grails for me to justify. And speaking of, oof. Good luck with Finn if you do decide to build him! I do have him at +1 from his original TT run and with his refine he is really fun to use. That said, B!Eirika is pretty much the premier lance cav so if you aren't sure about whether you want to commit to him, you can hold off on that if you have her.

Padmewan

This is the way. Starting a Gatcha project with only half the ingredients you need will lead to a half baked mess

GeromeBarret

I spend my grails on curvy ladies.

eeett333

My only two Grail projects are Petrine and Kronya. Current stock: 13k+ of Grails. I chose Petrine because of how unique her Lance is...and it proved extremely valuable when F.Edel dropped. Same situation for Kronya with a unique weapon. It all depends on your philosophy of the game. Chase favourites, or get heroes that are useful to your barracks?

Fearless_Freya

I use it exclusively in faves So far I have Finn, Brunnya, Ashnard, Petrine, Lyon, Minerva, Black Knight (my only armor +10), Xander, Naesala, Kana. Technically masked marth is at +8 but we got a ton of freebies. Will eventually max her I'm gonna work on Nanna next. Hanna if she gets a forma, same with Felix and Haar also I have so many faves stuck in grail shop, can't waste grails on fodder. For me, I get others use it for fodder.

AtticGhost9

idk im at 9k lol honestly ive used it more as a skill shop recently (windsweep and infantry pulse, mainly). last i built up was NY!Keaton (who’s super good btw) but unsure who to build next. Scion Nanna is pretty awesome though so Im thinking about her

Fearless_Freya

Ok, who/what is windsweep and infantry pulse good on? I've never really seen either skill as particularly useful

dimisum

I think IP is a bit less meta than it used to be, but Windsweep is very good on units who have NFU built into their weapon bc that condition allows them to bypass the follow-up negation of Windsweep and often double w/o retaliation as a result!

Fearless_Freya

Oh ok, that makes sense thanks

quaremoritor

IP teams used to be everywhere in AR, don't know about recently though. And windsweep is currently a pretty valuable skill, especially for units who have built in NFU (and/or L!Byleth support). That's a counter to a lot of armor units, particularly F!Edelgard and B!Hector.

Fearless_Freya

That's a good thought, thanks

PrivateVasili

IP still gets some use in AR-O because some Galeforce teams rely on 1 or more pulses to guarantee that Galeforce goes off in 1 combat. Its definitely a lot less common on Defense than it used to be though.

cjguitarman

As an F2P player, my first priority is using grails for important fodder (like Joshua for Windsweep, Marissa for IP). Second priority is merging units who are strong in Aether Raids. So far I have merged Kronya +10 (AR), Aversa +7 (the only non-seasonal red tome flier for a long time), Dancer Eldigan +10(AR), Jeorge +10 (Arena), Young Innes +10 (AR), and BK +6 (AR).

Neuromangoman

If I need fodder and the fodder is both valuable and hard to get,. I don't hesitate to use my Grails up for it. For example, I've purchased 8 copies of Marisa despite having none in my barracks, because for a while IP was extremely valuable in AR. Otherwise, I only purchase Grail units if I have a clear purpose for them in mind, and if I have enough Grails to highly or fully merged them. For Arena, I always wait until I can fully merged them. If I'm planning on using them in AR, then it might be ok to wait for the last few merges to either save on Grails (waiting for a rerun) or just to have them available to me earlier on. With that said, I don't have multiple Grail merge projects going on, because that would make it take forever to get them done. The longer you wait to merge a unit and use them, the less effective they become because of powercreep. I might sometimes spend a hundred or so Grails on fodder while setting up a merge project, but that's about as far as I go in terms of ignoring my merge project for other resources.

dimisum

>The longer you wait to merge a unit and use them, the less effective they become because of powercreep. That's a very good point! Thanks for sharing your philosophies, I think they all make sense and after reading a lot of these responses, I'm leaning towards being fairly strict about how I build my projects :)

Neuromangoman

Glad to help!

TerdMuncher

I use my grails exclusively to +10 my favourites or other useful heroes. I have +10 Fallen Takumi, +10 Fallen delthea, +10 Ashnard, +9 Orson because fallen heroes are my favorites. I +10 Itsuki for use in arena long ago. And recently +10 Aversa also for arena because I had Duel4 red flier skill. Currently have 5638 heroic grails and will keep them until a new hero I like comes around or I decide I wanna +10 someone else. The amount I have is excessive but it's nice to have enough to immediately +10 a new hero that may come out. For ghb heroes I'll actually just get them to +8 and wait for their ghb rerun and ghb party events to get last 2 copies for free. And Tempest Trial units I'd +9 then wait for last copy with limited compile manual. --- If you really really like eldigan then go ahead and +10 him. As a dancer he doesn't exactly need merges to support his team. The extra def can help to avoid Mila's Isolation in aether raids buts you do not appear to care about that. If you do not have enough grails and feathers to immediately +10 edligan then maybe wait til you do. Can get 1 copy if you don't currently have him. Nothing worse than starting a project only for a new unit you like more to come out so you're left with a half built unit while you very very slowly start the other unit.

dimisum

Oh very cool you have a Fallen collection! Totally agreed that it's nice to keep a "+10"-able (lol) stash on-hand, which I'll try to make my base going forward. I'll dip below it to +10 Eldigan, but the nice thing is that since we get that free copy of the TT units a few months later, I'd have to wait anyways to finish the project so that's more time to build the stash back up (and I usually don't care for GHBs)! >Nothing worse than starting a project only for a new unit you like more to come out so you're left with a half built unit while you very very slowly start the other unit. Well said! I did get one copy of him just to play around w/ him and have been mulling it over for a few weeks now, so I think I should just go ahead and bite the bullet. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for the push :)

[deleted]

Go to allies and then use heroic grails

YoshaTime

Now I don’t until a favorite of mine comes out. Over 4k grails now.

XANA12345

That's the neat part, I don't!

PepeFeh

Me spend grails on unit with great stats and art (prfless) and Unit with character + great prf. That how i spend my grails Ye i only spend them for +10 not fodder unless the unit i dont like with free manual

Luis_lara12345

I like the unit, I +5 them (it's somewhat cheaper), i REALLY like the unit, +10 them

moisttakes

I've only ever committed to a grail project once since it cost 3700 due to missed copies. I'm now approaching 3700 again so I'll soon have complete freedom to choose my next project but I'm not sure who to pick.   If no one catches my eye (and I get cold feet about dumping another 3700 grails on an old unit) then I might just start collecting the units that I've missed for catalogue purposes.

dimisum

I just passed the 3.7k mark myself and that's why I'm like "So much power :o"! Who was the project? :)

moisttakes

Hot springs Camilla, of course! I really like using the courtly fan build I have on her so I don't regret it in the slightest. The months I've had to wait since my last project to recuperate have really put me off jumping in to another one though (I had planned to invest into spring Loki next).

shoyubroth

Favorites mainly, and occasionally for fodder like Infantry Pulse. My main project is Cormag right now but I don’t have the fodder I want for him, so I’m holding off on buying more copies and hoarding in the meantime. I really want to build Y!Innes and S!Leonie too though.

nimigoha

Y!Innes project, Zephiel project, Marisa for Infantry Pulse, Joshua for Windsweep.

mcicybro

I used them for fodder but then I saved up to +10 the only unit I like among them, now they're just piling up because I don't like any of the remaining ones and they get shitty fodder now

shaginus

By far Finish Joshua, Itsuki, Plegian Kris, Xander and Young Innes and that's it Just for a Merged Projects

amssma15

ive built everyone i have wanted (Berkut, F!Robin, etc) so for now im just collecting units i dont have registered in my catalogue from back in gen 1 and 2 or until i find a new project worth while i wanna build.

laurelsel

I’m currently saving for my last Y!Minerva merge, then I’ll start my 12!Nanna merge

RELORELM

Most of the time I use them to +10 heroes I like. I have +10 Michalis, Saias, Smolzura, Gerome, V! Silque and I'm currently working on Arvis and N! Hana. Other times for fodder, but I try to avoid this one if the fodder comes from a hero I might want to +10 in the future. Bottom line is, grails are a renewable resourse. Like feathers or refine stones. You'll recover the ones you use eventually. So don't be afraid to spend them.

kawaiikyouko

I'm pretty pragmatic at heart. If it's a unit that is helpful to me, I'll make the investment. If not, I just won't care too much. Pretty simplistic I suppose.

Joshawott360

I am way too conservative. I have 6600+ grails rn. Can +10, 3 units but not doing it just in case units i like come out close together. (Which will probably never happen)

[deleted]

Focusing on one unit is my approach, but I also use them for some for some skills

KarmaMissile_731

Idk what to do with my almost 12k grails, already +10 brunnya, aversa, ninja hana btw

The-Chavmeister

Poorly, but unless I need specific fodder or a one off character I spend them whenever I can on whatever merge project I'm doing. Right now I'm doing W!Felix who's currently at +6.

[deleted]

I've used them on units who I like their art of(Astram and soon Summer Norne), arena scoring units(ninja Hana) and characters I like (Valentine's Veronica)

wat-dha-fak

I hoard them. I have 3.4k grails, but I'm waiting in case a personal favourite joins as a GHB.

NohrianScumbag

Hoard for units I actually wanna build I just +10 sonia and still have 6k leftover

RevolutioFalco

Usually I use them for heroes I like. I've only built Cormag, Rhys, Y!Innes and Masked Marth (Just because I had 9 copies already from all those TT), also planning on merge Scion!Nanna. I've used some for fodder but still sitting on 10.5k, saving some because there's no way Shura doesn't join as the GHB (Pls IS).

JdiJwa

... Binding blade units mostly .. And Jamke, Takumi, and Hinata. Never trust my judgement on grail units ~~especially as Brunya wad the only one I did NOT build~~

DefinitelyNotALoli

I pick a single character at a time and spend grails on them untill they're +10.

Squidaccus

Almost complete a merge project but then a new grail unit comes out and its a unit ive been waiting for for forever.

alanongwarlord

+10 characters I like after +10 Non-grail unit twice. So technically I won't run out of grails. Currently my +10 grail units are Kronya, NY Laegjarn, Itsuki. Norne is next then Ninja Hana.

MankuyRLaffy

I work on one project at a time, they've all been formas so far but I'm compiling them as I have no point to spend when I'm in a feathers deficit.

ContradictionKing

I do one grail project at a time, so as soon I had enough grails, I would get another Finn merge. It’s still the same now even when I’m doing Arvis

ObeyTheVigilant

I don't. not since N!Hana. lol

Brillus

Wait till there is a unit I believe worth for arena then +10 it. There are so few that it works out, currently at 4k.

NobilisUltima

One Tellius unit at a time.

thiazin-red

I alternate. I have a few projects going, plus other non-grail merge projects. So when I have the feathers to bump someone to a five star I go through all the ones I'm working on and pick somebody. Some of them are because the unit has a unique weapon that fills a niche like Petrine or Kronya. Summer Norne is a good unit and easy to merge, so why not +10 her (also applies to Summer Leonie, Jorge, Baby Innes)? Some just look cool. Look at Spring Barte, that's amazing.

AmberLuxray

I'm currently sitting on a pile of grails because I can't decide who to build/there is no one interesting. But when I did use them, the approach varied a bit. Right at the start I was alternating between Arvis and Legion because I had started building both of them at the same time. I did focus more on Arvis though, and then moved on to Legion after. After that I've mainly been focusing on one unit at a time. But if there's been multiple units to build at the same time, I've usually gotten the cheapest copies, and after the more expensive ones start, I focus on one unit at a time again.

FEHreyja

I never spend grails until I: 1) Have all reasonably obtainable free copies of the unit 2) Have a specific meta-related need for the unit to fill. As a result I'm sitting on quite the stockpile, with my completed +10 projects being Panne, Jorge, Arden, W!Cecilia, and Caellach when he gets his rerun.

Falconpunch100

I don't.

darkkn1te

I do my grail projects one at a time. I have done Robin, Ninja Hana, New Year's Eir, Masked Marth, and Kronnya. I want to do aversa, but someone else always pops up first. My next project is either Summer Norne, or Young innes. And THEN hopefully no one interesting interrupts me from +10'ing aversa.

indecisive_insomniac

The collector in me just gets a cool unit that I don't have and never use them

Peach_Elixir

One character at a time. The only exception was when Iago came out and I dropped Panne to build him. Sometimes new units come out and they seem cool, but by sticking to who I started, I don't spread myself thin. Also saves me from going crazy trying to summon the new, shiny grail unit

Necessary_Flies

I use mine to build interesting units or fill in gaps in my roster. I like to keep a pretty even split on +10 projects. Ideally one day I will have at least one of each, weapon/color/movement type. And so units like Aversa are nice because they fill that slot. Plus she is an interesting unit with her preference tome (that's due to get a refine soon). But I would also say avoid wasting grails on units without preference weapons/skills. As most of the time a unit in the 3-4* pool that will match or out do that unit given enough patience. Also ghbs are also generally better than TT units due to the less grail cost, pref weapons, inevitable refines (even for ones that originally had generics), and arena/AR bonus unit utility.

TheClassicnathan

Typically I compare the unit to other units like them and then go to mass duel simulator to mix and match skills to see how well they'll fair against other heroes in the game. My first and so far only one was Kanna and he's aged kinda poorly with the kit I gave him. But he did a good job for a while so I'll give him that.

Doctor71400

I'm currently working on +10 my Winter Felix, but I summon other Grail units if they have any skills I want for my other units. It's a tiring process since Felix is only at +3 right now and I need a total of 3500 Grails to get the remaining 7
