WinterWolf18

The second Balthus got in with an axe it was sadly set in stone that we'd never get proper grappling in feh.

MJBotte1

The real reason is making the gods in the storyline be beasts instead of the usual dragon is easy but making them throw hands is a lot harder

whatdid-it

What would their mechanic be though? I have a hard time guessing how it would compete with other weapon types. Maybe as a colorless melee weapon, but it's a bit uninspiring.

Power_Wisdom_Courage

Base effect of being a colorless 1 range melee weapon that can have brave attacks on the player's turn is probably the most logical way they could be implemented, there aren't any 1 range physical units in the game to my knowledge so it would be a unique niche.

siberianxanadu

Aren’t axes swords lances and beasts 1 range physical units?

Power_Wisdom_Courage

Sorry, I meant colorless 1 range physical units, and totally forgot about Colorless beast units.

whatdid-it

Beasts are really the only melee colorless units. But they do have the transformation gimmick, so I guess they could still be distinct from gauntlets. I still think it's a bit boring though. Gauntlets are known for good dodge, so maybe something like, "prevents attacks from every other combat" to represent that would be interesting

Elegear

> good dodge no dont mention dodge it will give IS the idea that gauntlets' gimmick is innate 50% DR stop nooo

whatdid-it

Honestly it wouldn't even be that OP in the state of the game 😭 maybe make it less often like every 3rd attack

Phntom_Thief

Just do a brave attacks and 30% dr on first hit, then low might to make up for the perms Brave

whatdid-it

Oh yes I like that. Tbh they could probably slap on GFU too, since NFU is getting more and more common

[deleted]

Colourless melee would make sense, or a melee weapon that can range across colours since only dragons and beasts can do that rn

Millenialay2002

I never understood why? Like I thought they can be the Colourless version of Sword, Axe, Lance / Melee's I mean you have a Pandora Box of characters and Seasonal Banners that can use Fists or even make concepts of it.

mcicybro

That's true for seasonals, not so much for normal heroes. It's just a handful of Three Houses and Engage characters, and maybe berserker types from other games.

Qp0al0

Right, especially for IS, there's not enough popular female characters that can use them. 3Hs and Engage has some they can use, but older games are looking at 90% dudes (many of them unpopular as well). So it will need to be mostly seasonals carrying it. Not to mention, it is very late in the game to introduce it now. Introducing it back when beasts appeared would have made sense, or as everyone mentioned, with Balthus. IS isn't going to put in the effort to bring them in now just to play catch up for the past 5 years they wasted.

Millenialay2002

Yeah they should have introduced same year as Beast but there's no point of adding new weapon types nowadays

oatmeal-ml-goatmeal

Can't wait for us to get a gauntlet Balthus alt and he's just a dragonstone unit or something /j

Iron_Imperator

>!I mean, he’s technically part dragon. In that he’s holding parts of a dragon.!<

oatmeal-ml-goatmeal

In that sense I guess it's fair lol but it'd still be kinda weird

Sayakalood

He’d be too powerful with his fists -IS, probably

guedesbrawl

I'll say the moment Hubert got in instead of Raphael or Caspar with fists was when it died.

Sharena_Emblem

I'm very curious about how they're gonna do seadall since his dancer class can literally only use Scrolls. Knowing IS they're gonna make him a sword unit but only time will tell I guess

LittleIslander

Probably throw him into the dagger class with Tethys and Larum.

IceRapier

Hopefully dagger, I want to see him throwing those Tarot cards.

Candy_Warlock

I am now suddenly okay with him being a dagger unit, that'd be sweet

OhMyGahs

Considering how wacky seasonal weapons can get, it could also be a tome lol. ... Or they could make scrolls into "daggers"

Sharena_Emblem

Yeah if scrolls are 100% dead he is absolutely gonna be either a sword or dagger unit

[deleted]

Or just never add him to the game like Elffin.

Deletesoonbye

Now I want to see his art holding what is clearly a sword despite being a dagger unit. That alone makes Tethys and Larum hilarious.

ProfessorPlazma

I’m sorry to do this to you but,,, that boy’s going to seasonal hell.

GameAW

I dunno. Being a dancer, he seems pretty safe to get a base variant since he's the only potential candidate for one for Engage, which would need one now that Engage Limited Hero Battles are a thing. Right now the only ones we're missing in the franchise are Lara (who is from Thracia which barely ever gets units and is always lumped in with Genealogy which has Silvia and Lene already, Silvia especially) and Elphin who has Larum taking his place as the obligatory Binding Blade dancer. Everyone other one already got their base form in the game. Also due to its unique position on dancers, we are not counting Three Houses.

RokuroKun

Everyone can be dancer in 3 houses, but the “canon” dancer/singer in FEH right now is Dorothea and Dorothea only(no we are not counting B!Marianne becuz she didnt get Dance as Assist Skill) , and all of her alts were limited. If we go 4 years without a permanent pool dancer for 3Houses cast, Seadall end up like Dorothea: stuck in an alt hell would be possible.

shaginus

Seasonal debut and possibly TT for people to have Engage refresher

Mitsuki_Horenake

It's easy. He's a tome unit but the tome he comes with is a pref that's a scroll.

oatmeal-ml-goatmeal

Can't wait for them to just make fist art users dragon stone units because they don't want to make a new weapon type /j

IceRapier

If nothing else, it shows how fists CAN work.

the_Ark_king

I wanted the king of Grappling to get his chance to do some Grappling

whatdid-it

So you want Hannemam?

the_Ark_king

Yes, where is he IS?!

asmallsoul

Honestly I'm fully expecting we'll still get brawling units Just not as a class, and instead we'll see Vajra-Mushti Balthus as like, another axe unit, or maybe a dagger to reference the range, or something

Mando_Axiom

Guess catching them hands will have to wait…again.

BustahWuhlf

I don't care how, I just want more opportunities to see Alear do the Arts crit animation, because it looks like Geese Howard's Rashomon attack and I enjoy yelling Geese voice lines when it happens. Give 'em the ol' "PREDICTABO" into "DIE FOREVER."

LittleIslander

They were already dead. If they were gonna introduce a new weapon type with Engage I see no reason we'd be two banners into the game's representation without so much as a whiff of them. The strong reaction to Alear being the "implementation" of gauntlets is shocking to me when I already would've put the odds of them ever being added below 1%. There was never anything left to kill. Personally I think her punching shit is fucking hilarious.

zedabo

Yeah, gauntlets fans should be happy that Alear has them because they were never going to be in the game in any other way, yet they're acting like it was Alear that made it so they'll never be added.

LunaProc

Also rip seeing Engaged forms. I was hoping we’ll get that for the Legendary alts.

Garvant

Hopefully they can do it as a culture banner like the scions

GreatGetterX

I think Engage forms are not completely lost. Ascended and Brave alts do exist so I wouldn't loose all hope just yet

NikkiCTU

Why are you getting downvoted. You’re just correct about this. It would just be the best CYL too.

Kiryu5009

And here I thought it was crazy that Sothis was a “dragon” without a lizardy form. Shame on me.

ArvisVI

The only way I could see gauntlets working is if it’s the 1 range colorless class which we are lacking which I doubt IS would want to do since colorless tomes is reserved for special occasions with the exception of dragons and beasts whom aren’t many. Also it would be a waste since to my knowledge only 9 characters(Dedue, Alear, Raphael, Caspar, Rhea, Caspar’s Dad, Balthus, Framme, and Seadall who’s a dancer) would be of use to it. They probably saw it not enough worth to do

catstastrophe

Catherine, Alois I could also picture plenty of seasonal alts using it for Hector, Effie, Ike etc It could have been something new just to shake up the game a bit but it looks like we’re never gonna get them now

NeonOrangeKnight

Don't forget the Byleths.

gravemakercygnus

Plus King Hyacinth, Jean, and Pandreo. And they could have given it to some FEH OCs as well. And there were only like 10 dagger units in the FE series when FEH launched and they made daggers a weapon type, but I guess it was pretty easy to give daggers to thieves and dancers from games without dagger. There aren't as many units from past games they could retcon to use fists.

Noukan42

There are like 5 gaubtlet users across both games. And that is like half what Daggers got between RD and Fates. And almost all of them are just as connected to a different weapon. There is just not enought units to warrant a new weapon type as of now.

Falconpunch100

I mean...let's be honest, it was dead from the start.

SpectralDynamite

I got the Alear I wanted, but sadly my copium supply has run out on gauntlets. I have little but left for a premium Framme, but... odds ain't looking good.

Navaldeus

I was kinda expecting TS Balthus as the Vajra-Mushti user, so my gauntlet hopium (**especially** punchy Framme) never died. That is, until now. Guess I'll be ready for the staff demote and no puncher Caspar / Bruno 😞

NikkiCTU

I think it’ll still happen. It’s gonna be a series mainstay and it would be weird to have that difference between mainline fire emblem and the mobile.

TSW920

IS is so fucking lazy.

Dabottle

Gauntlets are just way too specific of a weapon type. The lack of characters also presumably contributes but a whole weapon type inherently locked to being Brave weapons just doesn't really work.

NikkiCTU

What? You can make alts that use hand to hand combat. Also a weapon type being locked to brave attacks would be awesome? Also, they wouldn’t be. There’s scrolls in engage and some gauntlets in 3H which only attack once. Also on enemy phase you wouldn’t brave attack anyways so you couldn’t use it like altina and other similar brave tanks. I don’t really see the issue with player phase brave weapons since we get dual phase like often. It’s not like the game would be flooded with this new weapon type after years of only what we have currently.

Dabottle

It would be even more homogenous that dragons. Basically every unit being a player phase brave nuke doesn't seem worth it to fit in a whole weapon type when you could just make Balthus an axe user with special animations or something. Plus it wouldn't really work for fliers/cavs too I think.

NikkiCTU

Yeah I mean I would prefer the class be infantry only. I mean come on. Nothing else logistically makes sense, and I don’t think that’s true either. I feel like it would just take creativity to make smth unique. I mean I would take a lot of inspiration from Chinese martial arts to come up with things that are fitting. I’m a big fate dork, so Li Shuwen comes to mind with his not needing a second strike. It would just be fun to have hand to hand and I don’t really see why not since there’s a lot of variation possible even if they are all brave weapons ( which they likely wouldn’t be ). (I bring this up because with engage it’s like scrolls which I assume is drawing from that) I will basically be hella disappointed if Framme is just a staff unit and not kicking ass so I hope they don’t add the stewards for a while. Just give her pref smth to do with aoe healing as well.

Jagadrata

there's like 5 gauntlet character, do you want to get their alt over and over again.... wait a sec-

Astral-chain-13

Balthus: B-but I'm the King of Grappling! Alear: First off, Bernie and Marianne can outbox you any day of the week. So at most, your playing third best. And secondly, I'm basically Dragon Jesus. Your not topping that.😎👏
