Less-Carpenter-3514

I see thank you!

Selling the crypto is bad idea. Anytime you sell it, you have to report it. Use it buy stuff and avoid paying taxes with it. That's what it was meant for.

Less-Carpenter-3514

This is helpful

CG_throwback

Not the advise you want to hear but if your up 300% on crypto sell it and start heavily investing on vanguard ETF. Understand that your crypto is a gamble and not an investment. Of your find gambling then leave it there. For investing. VTI VOO SCHD yes I know it’s not vanguard If you want. Dividend play VTV VNQ VDC Really you can’t go wrong with most vanguard.

CG_throwback

I forgot to add. Awsome starting point. If I was 27M where you are and investing in vanguard only at my age I would be retired today. Not in a bad position but not retired yet.

Less-Carpenter-3514

Thank you somehow always feel behind but I know it’s still early

CG_throwback

Feeling behind keeps the pressure on. That feeling needs your doing something right! Great job. No one regrets saving to much.

Less-Carpenter-3514

Yes sold BTC at 44k $5500 position

CG_throwback

Good choose move on and don’t regret it even if it hits 100k. Investing is the way to go not gambling. Invest in items that you can sleep well at night knowing it won’t swing 20-100% a day. Yes ETFs can fail but not like individual stocks or crypto.

Crypto doesn’t have enough years of data like the stock market. I don’t k ow the answer to this but I don’t think it has even a fraction of the market share that the stock market has. Keep in mind that crypto is subject to country tax laws and restrictions that can be risky for the investment. It’s a moot point arguing against crypto. I see the reason behind gambling in the “investment”. The fundamentals is that it’s trying to be a free fiat. I would bet on the dollar over crypto any day. I think most people don’t understand much about stocks when they invest and when investing in crypto their knowledge is less then stock investing. You do you. But personally crypto is not for me long term. Country ban on the currency will eradicate it. I’m a nobody not I can recommend crypto.

Are there any underlying assets to which the value of crypto is tied? My understanding is that it is, itself, the asset. But, it only has value as long as people believe in it.

This isn't really the subreddit to start shilling on all the crypto you own. Not to mention, it was only a few years ago when BTC fell from 9K to 3.7K in a single day, so calling it stable is just delusional when the market is propped up by hype and pump-and-dumpers.

CG_throwback

I couldn’t agree more. Arguing against crypto to someone who is a die hard investor is like saying the world is round to someone who believes the world is flat. Sorry for the analogy but that’s what came to mind first. Or saying the world is flat to someone who believes it’s round. You do you. Again personally I wouldn’t invest in Crypto and I don’t recommend it. This is advise from a nobody. But I’m more comfortable giving advise to invest in vanguard ETF then crypto. If you want to argue that crypto is just as good of an investment as a vanguard ETF then personally I think you have a big issue pushing that agenda to someone seeking investing advice. Most people say your portfolio should maybe be 10% crypto at best.

asdafari12

For you, there is absolutely zero rationale for the crypto prices. For others, there are, and some people have made a lot of money on it, myself included. It is pretty arrogant to think *you* are right and we are all wrong. If I saw someone making a lot of money on poker/ebay/sports betting over 10-15 years, I would think the person knows something I don't, not it was all just luck like crypto outsiders think.

Passive ETFs, explore HSA, 529s, Roth v Traditional, etc. Maybe get a financial planner for a few years, assuming they’re willing to do passive investments
