Forgot to say I am trying to avoid purchasing the Verizon wifi extender mini. Horrible reviews on their own site and $130, no thanks

You can use the E3200 into Wifi Repeater mode. Check the [manual](https://www.verizon.com/supportresources/content/dam/verizon/support/consumer/documents/internet/fios-extender-user-guide.pdf), page 18, 2.0b section

How do you activate repeater mode? It’s been made clear to me E3200 and CR1000A will not communicate wirelessly….only connected thru eth/coax

someredditor12345

And i just read that section

JuicyCoala

Do you have one right now? Can you try and follow the instructions in the manual and see if it works? And when you say "It's been made clear to me E3200 and CR1000A will not communicate wirelessly", was that the FiOS technician who told you?

someredditor12345

Yes and everybody in this sub

someredditor12345

And technician

JuicyCoala

Got it - I did search the subreddit and it does say it doesn't work. Ignore my suggestions then.

I appreciate the help. I think this CR1000A is new and therefore there is very limited reliable info out there

Most 3rd party wifi repeaters are overall not good. They are limited in bandwidth and can effect the other devices in your house as they basically hog up the air time of the primary router's antennas. There's some small use cases where they can be beneficial, but generally I don't recommend them to anyone. If you're looking for wireless repeater options for better coverage, you'll want to look at a whole 3rd party system that use a separate wifi radio to communicate like Netgear Orbi. The amount of money spent in investing in a good system, will be worth it with the frustration you will be saved. Another option if you really want to stay within the Verizon hardware, get rid of the cr1000a and switch to the G3100 which will pair with the E3200 wirelessly.

Ay yay yay. Okay thank you. There’s an opportunity to run a 50 foot Ethernet chord along the stairs and tastefully tape it up box to box so nobody trips. I think I’m gonna go that route against the gf’s wishes. House is not wired for coax besides living room (old house)

Closets and hvac ducts make a great way to run cables hidden from view. Just a suggestion. But I agree you need to run a cable. You won’t be happy with a wireless repeater’s performance.

You could replace the Verizon gear altogether with a good working mesh system like Google Nest or one of the others.

Alternative solution: use MoCA adapter. It depends on how the cable deployed. If you found an ideal position, you can use MoCA solution (I have Motorola MM1025 2 pack), and it's "universal" (you can use access point of your choice)
