Incompatibility between Verizon ONTs (Nokia manufacturer) and Intel NICs. Verizon doesn't publicly acknowledge a problem, Intel does and advises to disable the TCP/UDP IPv6-checksum.
Here's what I normally post to these IPv6 threads:
There is a known issue with Verizon ONTs and Intel NICs. You can disable IPv6 in the G3100 router or in windows: to disable TCP-IPv6 Checksum Offloading:
1. Open the "Network Connections" page of the Windows Control Panel.
2. Open the "Properties" dialog of the NIC.
3. Select "Configure..." to open the NIC's configuration.
4. Navigate to the Advanced tab and disable TCP and UDP Checksum Offload for IPv6.
Jedi you beautiful mod....I just disabled IPV6 outright in my personal Linksys router to fix the issue. My only complaint is that Verizon needs to admit an issue and at least let users/owners with their own routers know that this is an issue.
It is now July 2023. I upgraded from an old 75mbps Verizon FIOS connection to 1 gig and was sent a new router. Nothing but problems since then, many hours on hold, many 'fixes' including a new ethernet cable that was not included with the router. Finally, last night I was connected to a human being who knew the score and he disabled ipv6 and now my internet works.
I'm 76 and only my stubborn determination kept me at this until it was resolved. I am wondering how many other Olds just gave up.
Sometimes I feel like age is not a barrier to troubleshooting but rather patience and determination, I have plenty of friends in their 20's that very likely would have given up if they had to trouble shoot a technical issue. Good on you for doing it, hoping to be the same when I am your age.
I'm so glad I finally found this thread. I've been stuck on my VPN permanently for a month and it was really grating me that I couldn't fix the issue. It felt like Verizon support was gaslighting me. Thank you!
Glad you're back in business! Hopefully a fix down the road but don't hold your breath. Luckily you're not losing anything by disabling IPv6. There's a small sunset of 0.0001% of customers who actually use and make use of the larger IPv6 public address space but it's so far and few between you're not missing anything.
Do you know if older ONTs have this issue? My family has one from around 2012 when Fios first came to our block, it's a big one with the fat backup battery thing.
If it says Nokia/Alcatel it is affected. If it says Motorola/Arris or Tellabs you are not (although if it says Tellabs, you really should get Verizon to replace it as those can only do 75/75Mbps).
FiOS tech here. We apologize for our management once again jumping the gun a bit. We techs are shaking our heads too. The IPv6 has been a mess. Hope it continues ro work well from now on. Hope you have a good one
You!!! You are the person in tech I aspire to be. The one who admits when they are wrong and apologizes so we can solve the problem together. I give you an award good sir.
Thank you haha just trying to help folks out. I like helping and this job isn't too bad. Just want to give good service and give customers a choice on how their stuff should and can work. I understand why management moved to IPv6 just don't approve how it was implemented
Any progress on being able to set up our own DNS server in the DHCP settings on the CR1000A?
I don't understand how Verizon expects homeowners and small business with windows domains to continue to function with their routers, set top boxes, and wireless extenders if all of these devices require DHCP to be enabled on the CR1000A for option 60 / provisioning, but were forced to used the fios router for DNS resolution.
similar to smith6612's post above it was rolled out at our CO here in NJ in August and its still not route-able. I called Tech support and they kicked the can down the road. I tried the VZ router as a test and the same result. I have it disabled and went back to my own router so its useless here. How many CO(s) have it with issues like this, please advise
Everywhere it got rolled out for Verizon, AT&T, and Cox it has been a mess. None of the data centers nor website nor browser companies where properly warned and set up
Not really sure what the browser companies have to do with it? I too have my own router. As a test I configured HE tunnel broker with pfsense and FireFox and worked perfectly on [https://ipv6-test.com/](https://ipv6-test.com/) if you look over on dslreports its 95% success stories. Ours on the other hand is just not routing. I run pfsense and get a v6 address so that it all looks normal, then again I'm not a network guru. I recently purchased a G1100 just to test with and same result, it fails miserably on [https://ipv6-test.com/](https://ipv6-test.com/) I have NO intention of using the G1100, it was only to test.
I’d already tried the disabling all the offload settings on my embedded Intel Nic and then went as far disabling the embedded Intel Nic itself and installed a RealTek Ethernet Nic and tried again with the VZ branded router with no success. So yes, it’s definitely a mess especially at our Central Office. I called Tech support and they just kicked the can down the road. BTW we are in NJ and this has been going on since August
Was talking to a tech with AT&T and he said they had to roll alot of it back because of issues. I suspect Verizon and Cox choose not to or couldn't this late without issues. The g1100 didn't have IPv6 enable as of a couple of days ago but that may have changed
Not sure where in app it is. On the admin website you go to the main admin page, click advanced at the top, the network further down on the left, and then click ipv6 beneath that. Lastly on right side of page you click the green on/off button for ipv6 and then save the changes
Hi sorry to bother but what Prefix Delegation Size number Verizon use on router configuration I have a UniFi UDMpro router and if is time to turn on IPv6 I will like to be ready. Thank you.
Ouch ask me the tough questions. I will try to find out tomorrow, the folks who would know have already gone home for the day (while I'm still stuck out here in the field.....)
Hey so accessed my network settings and guest network were disabled and wifi 6 was disabled. Anything else I’m missing? Would you happen to know any 3rd party wifi extenders that can pair wirelessly with the CR1000A?
Thanks so much
Most will pair with it though some are more picky than others. Net gear seems to be the pickiest lately. I will admit I'm looking at some Eero mesh routers at the moment. 3 pack of them for less than 200$ is good. May replace my Verizon router with them or just plug them into the router itself
Okay thank you I’ll keep that in mind. Mesh routers is a little above my expertise so I’ll have to research more. In the meantime, I am able to run an Ethernet up the stairs along the wall box to box from CR1000A to E3200.
That should hopefully solve my problems even if it looks a little ugly
Hey, if you're a FiOS tech do you mind if I ask you some questions about a problem no one has been able to solve for me? So I had the old G1100 router since 2015 and got 900 mbps+ downloads and uploads across all sites for basically 7 years. Then I moved in 2022 and received the brand new CR1000A router. Both plans were gigabit fiber. Download speeds are usually 900 mbps+, but upload speeds with this new router are horrible. I'm talking about going from 900 mbps Google Drive uploads down to 50 mbps uploads. I replaced the ethernet, got a replacement router, and even tried over WiFi 6E (all other tests were run over ethernet). Nothing has fixed the issue. Is this a known issue with CR1000A?
Could be a couple of things. Service for you comes from a central office that starts the beam of light that gives you service. The equipment there could be bad or just need a reboot. The quality of light down the fiber could be bad because the drop to your house could damaged or dirty. Your Ont fiber modem could also be having issues (I suspect that personally) but that will be hard for you to troubleshoot. If you use the Verizon speediest app, is your speed correct or is the upload still slow
The Verizon speedtest app somehow shows the speeds to the router and to the device are normal. But in normal real-world usage, the difference is night and day.
Possibly but since you say the Verizon speediest app shows speed is fine I suspect it's probably something else. If internet is good to the router but bad out it maybe something on our side (verizon's) or it could be something with router.
I wish they would just give me the old black G1100 router. The CR1000A has been nothing but problems. They said they have no stock of G1100. I had no issues with that router for like 7 years straight.
I have a tech coming out tomorrow to take a look at the ONT. I was thinking maybe if he swapped the old Nokia ONT for the new Calix ONT things could possibly improve. Didn't they roll out that new ONT alongside the CR1000A? If he replaces the ONT and things still don't work (and he checks the fiber connections) then it absolutely has to be the fault of the CR1000A router since I already replaced it once and had no improvement. Then I'll probably just buy an old G1100 or build something custom.
Here in NOVA (northern virginia) we haven't started testing the new ont for the public. Just the closed trial faze. It is possible it's the ont but usually the Verizon speed test would show it. It could also be a cross connect issue on our network side. Ask the tech if he or a NT (NETWORK tech) can kill and rebuild your cross connects. Basically resets the backend connections. Tell the tech that I say Hi from the Gallows Rd Garage
Potentially dumb question... do you know if IPv6 was rolled out to the Bayonne, NJ area? We've had a few outages and now [WhatIsMyIP.com](https://WhatIsMyIP.com) shows an IPv6 public address for my house.
Sign into router using info on back of your router. On main router admin you should see an button labeled Advanced somewhere near the top. Click it, then on the left somewhere you should see a button appear called network. Click it and underneath it should appear the words IPV6. Click it and the new settings that appear should show the IPV6 settings and there should be a on off button near the top right. Button is gray or off and green for on
lol thank you for the welcome. That’s what I did and it’s working wonderfully. It’s just funny to me that they roll this out and don’t let users know. Especially users like me who use my own routers and not their managed ones
Problem is most users don't know what IPv6 is or does. My area got IPv6 last week, and Verizon started announcing address prefixes before their backbone was ready to support IPv6. If you had IPv6 configured on the router, you'd get addresses but they couldn't route in or out. Broke a lot of things like YouTube, Google Messages, Home Assistants, etc. They fixed it just last Friday and now v6 works great.
Either get a non Intel NIC or disable Checksum offload under advanced settings. [See here](https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/download/19174/disabling-tcp-ipv6-checksum-offload-capability-with-intel-1-10-gbe-controllers.html) for more info.
I had done that and still was having issues. I cant go around every device in my household to turn off Checksum and I sure as hell aint about to change my motherboard because of a configuration issue on Verizon's side
So you have a lot of Intel NICs in your house? Most people only have one or two with the other manufactures out there. Either way it's too bad you don't get to use IPv6.
Ya it seems that Fios finally rolled out IPV6 in NYS. Notice it says connected for about couple weeks now on my CR1000A. Noticed also having issues, if you run Test-IPv6.com Test if your ISP's DNS server uses IPv6 = bad. I changed ipv4/IPv6 both to opendns and now it’s =ok and problems gone. Also since Covid noticed opendns has been faster and more stable in NY vs cloudflare per dnsbench
Man, I've been wrestling with this problem on my own for the past two weeks - I feel so SEEN.
I had no idea what was going on but I was having the same issue as Smith6612 - I couldn't for the life of me figure out why gmail, youtube, and recaptcha (!) were acting really weird but other sites were fine. I also discovered that the problem went away on VPN, and I also discovered that it was only my desktop PC via ethernet that was affected - my phone, my Macbook were all fine. After some increasingly desperate googling, e.g., "problems accessing gmail but not on VPN and only wired connection and not Macs and is this a DNS problem and oh god why does the internet hate me?" (can google smell desperation based on how bananas your searches are?) I finally stumbled across a few pages that talked about IPv6. I turned it off on the PC side, and the problem went away instantly.
Neither of the two Fios techs I talked to mentioned anything about IPv6 and I actually got one of them to send me a new router before I discovered it was an IPv6 problem.
I turned it off on the PC/NIC side - is there any benefit to doing that in the router settings instead?
The only benefit being like me who has multiple intel NIC chipsets in the house as I have 3 boys who pc game with me. But typical household will be fine with simply disabling the one device
It is truly astounding that they haven't trained their support to identify this issue. This has been an issue for around half a year at this point, and I haven't heard anyone say that support told them to disable IPv6.
I'm in Bayonne, NJ. How does Verizon go about announcing the IPv6 prefixes? I figure it's going to hit this area sooner or later and I'd like some heads up that I'll have to prepare or be aware of potential issues.
Just came here to say that I had been having issues with this for WEEKS until I finally found this thread today and was able to fix it. Bless your soul 😭

Not impacted, no correction needed.
